I remember this so vividly: I've watched Toonami since I was a kid, and it wasn't until around this time that Toonami became boring (nothing but Naruto reruns and shows already on CN in order to double dip). Then this night I tuned in after a few months, near the end. Then this pops up out of nowhere, with me and my brother staring at it with dropped jaws. We were way older, but we balled like the kids we were when we started this journey... and then they brought it back. Love you, Toonami. :)
+shiny mewtwo Mostly due to Cartoon Network. The network replaced high-quality shows (ex: Samurai Jack), changed show airings, and decreased the amount of specials (ex: Month of Miyazaki). They also introduced programs like Miguzi that were similar, but very hit or miss. Essentially, CN changed everything too much, and then had the gumption to say it was Toonami's fault. Toonami ended, years passed, April Fools day happened, fans united, and we have it again.
Sadly, yes. Naruto was the prime CN show at one point; it's popularity spread at school where every other kid donned a ninja headband and flaunted hand signatures. However, they halted episodes of it right before what we now know as Shippuden, so Toonami was loaded with reruns of the show. Plus they never had much order so newcomers couldn't follow along, such as an episode featuring Zabuza followed by a chunin exam part, and then something from the first ten episodes.
fuck i had the same reaction. I remember Natuto was running that night and then later bang, it’s over. No more Toonami. I was in shocked and check again another night only to find that it truly was gone & I was so lost without Toonami on Television. Luckily Toms back for the long haul.
I cried when i saw this . I am sad we do not have the Toonami we had when i was kids. I remember toonami being on every evening after school I would come home and watch gundam wing and sailor moon and do my home work later. Then toonami midnight run came on and i'd watch sailor moon again. Good times I miss those days =/
What makes this sadder is that Moltar (the first Toonami host)'s voice actor died in 2016 RIP Clay Martin Crooker: If it weren't for you, we would've never have Toonami
Perpetually Tired it looked like he did for a sec and i gasped, i almost died inside at that monent, and worse, I WAS ONLY 6, I ALMOST HAD HEART ATTACK ,anyway i thought he did
I bawled when this ended, I was 25 at the time. Even though I stopped watching toonami and moved on to currently dead sites like Narutowire, I still tooned in and caught the last one. I didn't even know it was over until he said how long it was running for. I called in my younger brother to see it. The moment Tom said "bang" he turned around and went into his room and shut the door while I teared up right there. I now have a Toonami Tom pop figure of his previous form.
I didn't believe it was over because I hadn't seen any lead up. For me it was a random saturday and tom said bye. I was like wait what? So I waited a week and toonami never came on again. For the rest of my childhood/teenage years, I grew up kinda mad about how sudden it seemed to me. I'd followed toonami since before i was old enough to know wtf i was even watching.
If I look back, the moment he said "bang", Cartoon Network's golden age came to and end. With classic shows ending either 1 year before the end of Toonami, or around 2010. This marks the beginning of the modern era of Cartoon Network.
You know it's funny. I was a generation behind a similar moment IRL near me probably 2007. A group of young men at a camp had essentially put together what was called a "campfire" where all night from early afternoon a series of skits were performed and some minorly emotional group songs and smores. They were just one generation off from me. So we worshipped them. They managed to somehow, like a greek myth, slay all the tired, old, yet beloved skits before us. Somehow capping the magic and yet blasting us into a different realm. It was incredible. But also it robbed the magic from our turn the next year where we couldn't follow up the act. I know toonami ending was a tad different but in a similar way, it was like the magic died. I feel like most of what i've done this life is be a day late and dollar short. Just a second behind the best of the best. watching magic die instead of replicating it.
I remember watching both old school and z, now super being on toonami makes me feel alive, and ready to help the next generation to get into some awesome anime.
same here the 1990s and the 2000s was the golden age for youth but now since it's 2019 and I'm about to be 28 in july i feel that today's cartoons and anime are lacking.
Toonami should be its own channel by Cartoon Network like they did Boomerang for classic cartoons years ago but Toonami be purely anime like it always was and Tom be its host like always.
I watched Toonami since the mid-90's, back when Moltar hosted; this was the schedule: 4 PM: Thundercats 4:45 PM: Voltron 5:30 PM: The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest When TOM took over in 1999, this was the schedule: 4 PM: Sailor Moon (my favorite anime show [82 episodes]) 4:30 PM: ReBoot 5 PM: Dragon Ball Z (the greatest action cartoon ever made) 5:30 PM: The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest TOM even did some motivational speeches (my favorite: Anger). In 2007, Cartoon Network gave TOM a face, and a couple friends (Flash and D).
I remember the day it happened, I was just a teenager, sat down in the living room with some instant rame. And watched Naruto. After the episode was done I saw this. Sat there in silence for about 20 minutes
Tracey S. Moonwalker Fixed. Glad Cartoon Network could bring back the block. Remember the times, when you wished you could hold Sailor Moon's crystal moon wand, own Gene Starwind's gun, use cards as Card Captor Sakura, become Super Saiyan like Goku, slash Aku as Samurai Jack, save Gotham and Metropolis as Superman and Batman, save the world before bedtime as Blossom, Bubbles, and\or, Buttercup, become an experienced Ninja as Naruto, battle racers on IGPX, and fight Kagato as Tenchi Misaki?
"We'd like to thank each and everyone of you who made this journey with us, Toonami wouldn't be anything without you" Yeeeah. Except that Cartoon Network *_wanted_* it gone on purpose. How you may ask? First by moving it to Saturday afternoons, then re-running Naruto and barely any other anime or any show that fit into Toonami's usual criteria. CN's justification is they don't have licences to certain shows, even their recent reboot seems to imply they have a limited selection of anime shows in general.
Andrew Vickers wether they wanted to or not, the whole country was facing a recession in 08. they had to save face. with a new president of CN also implementing live action shows and launching DC universe block CN was headed toward a differrnt direction. Honestly to acquire foreign licenses and to ask a company to dub an anime is extremly expensive. it was a no brainer for CN to wear thin their licenses and end Toonami block. with a cluster of new adult swim programming coming down the pipeline there was no need to kick a dead horse. Kids grew up and moved on from toonami. the onky reason it still exist is those same kids whilst growing up expressed an outcry for its return when Adult Swim decided on an april fools joke. eventually, the same fate will come once again. as this reboot is simply a flash in the pan idea that while nostalgic has no substance. the cards have been dealt and anime isnt very profitable any longer. With almost zero creativity coming out of Japan its no wonder they relicensed old shows. eventually, that to will fade however. it was fun while it lasted but the industry as a whole has never been worse. this is why i personally havent watch a new anime in 4 years.
Have you even seen any anime or toonami lately. Thats a ludicrious statement on behalf of anime and tom 5. The toonami reboot isnt half assed it literally has 110% ass put into it
dubla321 my hero academia, one punch man, blue excorcist, seven deadly sins, fairytale, etc. Theres an assload of decent-great anime (seriously mha is absolutely amazing) its just not alot of good shonen style old school stuff, most just make a couple seasons and finish the story by chouce rather than keep it running for infinite episodes, most of the shows that run alot of seasons are older ones that are still going
I think I'm the only person in the world that legitimately enjoyed IGPX. Every time people talked about shows they liked on Toonami they skipped over it like it didn't exist.
I met Steve Blum, the VA for Tom, back at Comic Con once, after Toonami had ended. I asked him what he thought about it and he said he was truly sad to see it go at the time, that Tom had a lot of sentimental value for him because it was a role he would constantly come back to do.
God i remember this stuff so vividly as a little kid. Pretending to be asleep but then sneaking off into the living room and turning on that good stuff your not supposed to be watching as a kid. Good memories.

I played this at work on the anniversary and when he said bang, it was exactly 11PM EST on the dot. It was a sad day when this happened. Even though Toonami is back it doesn't feel the same as when I was a kid. Maybe we moved on with our lives or maybe it was CN's death nail. I know for a fact that Toonami was the gateway to so many things and for a brief few hours, it was our world. Tom made that world better and welcomed us no matter what was going on outside. Toonami got us through 9/11, Katrina, and other events as well as our personal daily struggles in school, family or society. My coworker was also crying when I played it because he knew it was the end of our childhood and of a golden age. Stay Gold Toonami family maybe one day we will have the weekdays back.
I gotta say, I didn't watch Toonami growing up. It was on too late passed my bedtime. So, I therefore respect the people who put time, effort, and money into the creation of one of the things that made Cartoon Network a great channel. Rest in peace old Toonami.

Then this night I tuned in after a few months, near the end. Then this pops up out of nowhere, with me and my brother staring at it with dropped jaws. We were way older, but we balled like the kids we were when we started this journey...
and then they brought it back. Love you, Toonami.
:)
why did it end
Me too it make my day after school and when it was the weekend I would stay up all night to watch Toonami Midnight shows until morning
fuck i had the same reaction.
Good times I miss those days =/
yaaaaasss. The original Toonami host was a cooler design. Specifically TOM 2 & 3
I miss those days. Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z etc.
Yea I remember watching yuyu hakusho back in 2005-2008 those were the days
Yes I remember also coming home watch dbz cuz I had no friends to hang out cuz I was not cool I miss the old toonami
@@VonMillie I miss yu yu hakasho and roni kenshin and ronin warriors.
What makes this sadder is that Moltar (the first Toonami host)'s voice actor died in 2016 RIP Clay Martin Crooker: If it weren't for you, we would've never have Toonami
I remember that! It was the first time I seen Toonami coming from school. Became addicted ever since.
I didn't know he died, though. 😞 R.I.P.

One of the most classiest channel signoffs in History.
And Famous.
@@dinosaurus598 Agreed!
But then he came back, just when we needed him the most. 1997-2008, revived 2012
i like how he leaves with a cowboy bebop reference
And Tom's voiced by Steve Blum.
He left the world as spike did , with a BANG
BlackStar 18 Thankfully Tom came back, and Spike did not. Not that Bebop wasn't great, but I think it's perfect the way it is.
This is a tear jerking moment for all of us who grew up with the original Toonami
is it bad that when he jumped i thought he committed suicide?
Perpetually Tired it looked like he did for a sec and i gasped, i almost died inside at that monent, and worse, I WAS ONLY 6, I ALMOST HAD HEART ATTACK ,anyway i thought he did
I had the exact same reaction until I realized he started to fly at the end.
BRO SAME
when i was 6 watching that shit i thought he felt sad af and did it u know
That’s hilarious
10 years later and it came back running strong
Damn right it did
They came back after 10 years???
@Shep Proudfoot lol keep your god damn politics outta the conversations you fucking sheep. Nobody cares.

I was watching this i think back in 1998 or 1999, every day after school to see dragon ball z. Now i am 26, I would rather be a kid :(
hittman sanjo it is back :) but old toonami was the best
hittman sanjo same here
I remember watching both old school and z, now super being on toonami makes me feel alive, and ready to help the next generation to get into some awesome anime.
same here the 1990s and the 2000s was the golden age for youth but now since it's 2019 and I'm about to be 28 in july i feel that today's cartoons and anime are lacking.
It's still astonishing how everything from the economy to entertainment suddenly went to shit almost simultaneously at the end of 2008.
Love the Bebop reference.
+Sandra Karr glad someone caught that:):)
Seriously I almost cried.
I remember watching it originally when I was a kid but I watched it again recently watched it again now I have a much deeper appreciation for it
+Deryk Wolin same here bro. I wish for a week they would play all the old cartoons that we grew up on just so these kids can see what it was like.
bang
Bringing Toonami back to to Adult Swim was the greatest idea ever.
Toonami should be its own channel by Cartoon Network like they did Boomerang for classic cartoons years ago but Toonami be purely anime like it always was and Tom be its host like always.
@@LagunaShirogane seriously asked for this for years it makes no damn sense that it isnt a thing since anime is "mainstream" now

Nah it was the toonami cast but him flying represent there spirt will live on as long as the sun sets on the west
I watched Toonami since the mid-90's, back when Moltar hosted; this was the schedule:
4 PM: Thundercats
4:45 PM: Voltron
5:30 PM: The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest
When TOM took over in 1999, this was the schedule:
4 PM: Sailor Moon (my favorite anime show [82 episodes])
4:30 PM: ReBoot
5 PM: Dragon Ball Z (the greatest action cartoon ever made)
5:30 PM: The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest
TOM even did some motivational speeches (my favorite: Anger).
In 2007, Cartoon Network gave TOM a face, and a couple friends (Flash and D).
I remember the day it happened, I was just a teenager, sat down in the living room with some instant rame. And watched Naruto. After the episode was done I saw this. Sat there in silence for about 20 minutes
All I can say is wow
Hit my soul so hard I need to hit my bowl. I relate to this
No matter how much time passes, this will always hurt
I know Toonami has been back for years now but this still made me tear up.
One of the saddest moments ever! We hate to see TOM leave, but we love watching you go....
Yeah that is sad; I love Tom.
Tracey S. Moonwalker
You saw him, right? We all miss him so much. RIP Old Toonami.
Ben Best You can still watch Toonami on Adult Swim.
Tracey S. Moonwalker
Fixed.
Ben Best Yes, I loved all those shows growing up and sometimes I still like to watch old episodes online. :)
The toonami reboot isnt half assed it literally has 110% ass put into it
IT'S ALL STUART SNYDER FAULT
dubla321 my hero academia, one punch man, blue excorcist, seven deadly sins, fairytale, etc.
Thank you for introducing me to One Piece, I’ll never forget you or the memories that you’ve created for ALL of us
12 years later, Now reality can be whatever I want it to be.
We've met again, Tom.
And I must say... it's good to see you again.

It's kind of somber thinking that TOM 4 was killed after this message. Say what you want about him, but a TOM is a TOM.

Frisk Determination Actually, Tom 4 died after that talk. The Intruder killed him.
I just died staring at the screen in my hand as I reflected all my childhood and this guy in my ears with that amazing voice no cap
Stay Gold Toonami family maybe one day we will have the weekdays back.
jason smith it’s not the same to me. Maybe I grew up or maybe it’s a different taste than what I have now.
Steve Blum the voice actor even got the sound wave for the word "bang" tattooed on his arm.

I gotta say, I didn't watch Toonami growing up. It was on too late passed my bedtime. But I watch this and I get goosebumps from the sincerity of the people who created this block who are really sorry what happened to it.
