I have the model with USB-C and so far it has been excellent. No problem receiving weak stations, not noticed it being overloaded by strong stations or nearby stations, overall performance is excellent. Of course I’ve never actually used any other one than mine so in relative terms it may not be as good, but certainly it seems very good to me. 73
I got the new sihuadon d808 today and I am as a radio amateur very impressed after my initial test. My old Drake tr5 did not stand a chance in the 20 meter band. 3 m antenna on d808 and 21 m windom on my tr5. Dont wait.
I have the XHDATA D-808 with micro-usb and since about two months also the SIHUADON D808 with usb-c. Apart from the color and the USB connections, I have not yet been able to discover any difference. My 2 cents from Belgium.
Just purchased the SIHUADON D-808 and noticed the difference in performance straight away especially on SSB with noticeably more background rushing sound this is comparing my XHDATA D808. was expecting the same performance as they looked identical but whatever they have done it's not an improvement it's still useable but wont be coming out much I have at least 8 radios to chose from one of my favourite's is the DEGEN DE1103. it will be interesting on the verdict when put under the microscope as they say...
@@jimgordon1563 cheers Jim quite agree I've been tuning around the 40 - meter band today and received very good conversation's on my MLA-30+ and long wire antenna...
@@jimgordon1563 Even the Degen DE1103 changed over time, it went from a very good PLL unit to a much less good DSP unit. Exact same exterior but totally different guts on the newer version which sucks.
Hej same here and glad that Gill inform us about the new XHDATA D-808 and Sihuadon D-808 are not the same radio inside and different circuit board in the new ones I was thinking of buying one more XHDATA D-808 or the Sihuadon D-808. But now very unsure, I'll wait to see what Gill says and what he thinks of the new models. But think it's bad if the new XHDATA D-808 and Sihuadon D-808 are worse and it's a high price for them take care and have a nice day.
Thanks for this. I have 2 of them. 1 with the original white display. The second with the orange. There is no difference. However, it has the same old USB power socket. Thanks for the heads up about Dave's site. 73. Jim
Same here with me. I also have both 'versions' XHDATA D808. The newer orange display one, which i bought just last week, on special off Amazon AUS, has proper RDS info scrolling on FM stations when the older blue display one just shows a static display. So far it seems that performance is the same which means excellent !
This true . I bought 2 week ago, it's bad 😞 . I opened up and the internal is very different from the original old one. However, my one is micro USB , not USB C .....
I was lucky enough to get an XHDATA D-808 last December. It has the amber backlight and micro USB input. Mine works well, so I might have received one of the last good ones. Thank you for the warning on these new versions.
Gilles I used to work for a manufacturer who many many things including electronics boards. The would on occasion have to redesign their boards due to their supplier stop manufacturing the chip or components our board required. That is probably why XHdata redesigned the 808 and the new parts may not have same specifications as the old one. I do remember that it drove the engineers crazy especially to get a similar priced replacement components that management demanded….😂!
I just bought the XHDATA D808, yellow display, USB-c. It must be the newer version. Looking forward to your comparison. My receiver seems to perform very well, but I never owned the previous model to compare it to. I’ll stay tuned. 📡
Hej Gill thanks for the info I have the Sihuadon D-808 but long time ago I bought it almost two years ago it has no usb C connection it has a micro usb connection on the side and no rubber feet or rubber buttons so it is the old model and very glad for that. But thanks Gill for the info regarding this new XHDATA or Sihuadon D-808 models it's easy to miss things like this, they look like the old ones at first glance. It's gonna be interesting to see your new Sihuadon D-808 and see how it performs and your comparison with the older XHDATA D-808 or Sihuadon D-808 models. But if it's true that the new Sihuadon or XHDATA D-808 is worse than the one I have and you have Gill, I think it's very bad because it is a high price for new Sihuadon D-808 from what I can see and about what I paid for my Sihuadon D-808 when I bought it quite a while ago. I am willing to buy a radio that costs money but then it must be good and if XHDATA cuts corners to save money and give us radios for a high price but not as good as they have been this is very bad take care Gill and have a nice day.
I wonder if this is again down to silicon chip shortages. The radio has perhaps been redesigned around a new, available chipset. Has happened with a few handheld transceivers in the amateur radio market. Its a shame because I found the original D 808 to be a nice radio.
Good information Giles, I consider the d-808 late last year, But did,not buy it, I recently purchased the XHDATA d-368 for my walking needs, Because its light and has a good speaker.
I find that the supplied antenna with the Sihuadon D-808 does NOT work with Tecsun PL-330/Pl-660. When this is plugged into their external jacks ,the signal drops off almost completely!
I just received one from Amazon. It appears to have 2 long thin rubber tabs on the bottom but has a microUSB charging port and not the usb-c charging port so it appears I do not have the newest one.
Oh no.. 😥😥😥, glad i bought my old model 3yrs ago. Works above excellent can pick up faintest AM & SW signals from far away countries. I hope xhdata will revert it back to the original board, cost cutting will destroy their good reputation on this great radio.
Ok, I checked my D 808 (had it for about a month) and it has rubber strips on bottom, with a 5v micro USB port. So, I'm not sure what's inside. Perhaps someone can tell me if my unit is old version, new or a transition model.
@ Patient Prepper - Yeah, me too. Mine just arrived yesterday. But, maybe it isn't as bad as we fear. I was playing with it this morning, and was able to pretty clearly pick up some hams on 40 meter SSB using just the telescoping antenna, sitting in my family room, which hasn't been an ideal place for any shortwave. By his call sign, at least one was at least over 600-700 miles away.

Thanks for posting this video. I was going to purchase this based on your old reviews but decided to wait until you post the updated results. Cheers.

Hi. I too have a DE1103 and think that it is one of the best portables for Dxing. 73s and GDX

I’ve had mine for a month. This is disappointing news.😕 I wish I had known this beforehand. Thanks for the update. I appreciate your videos.

Well, Gilles, apparently I have one of the older Sihuadon D-808s with the amber display & hard plastic feet with a micro usb on the side of the unit!
Thank you 👍 I wonder if the new one is still chuffing on tuning. Maybe a new Chip is in there too?
I find that the supplied antenna with the Sihuadon D-808 does NOT work with Tecsun PL-330/Pl-660. When this is plugged into their external jacks ,the signal drops off almost completely!
It could be the plug is not working in the same way with the other radios
Just got the 808 never had org I just hope this one is a good one.
😂 I just bought a Xhdata D-808 off Amazon 24hrs before you posted this... 🤷♂️ I will report back after it arrives as to which version I get... 😢
I just received one from Amazon. It appears to have 2 long thin rubber tabs on the bottom but has a microUSB charging port and not the usb-c charging port so it appears I do not have the newest one.
Regardless of the performance I hope they've fixed the battery drain issue.
and the scan fault on SW
Thanks for publicising this. I look forward to your tests.

It's the old one if it's not a usb C

seems to be, on some eton as well. kinda annoying unless you like the word timer for some reason
HMMM......wish I had know about that aweek ago.

Yeah, I bought a new one recently too.
Comment programme-t-on l'heure . merci
