- I gave in to temptation and bought a D-808 radio receiver. I have not regretted it. For me it is a really useful small, light receiver with plenty of capabilities. I also use it as a piece of test equipmemt for testing antenna tuning and for seeking out sources of noise.
Great little set that keeps its memory if the battery goes flat or is removed, a real bargain that blows much more expensive sets into the weeds
Absolutely !
I recently bought it. Enjoying listening to every band.
Sounds like it is a nice radio. Happy to hear from people that have bought the new version of this popular radio. Thanks for your review.
Recently i purchased this latest version which comes with USB-C ...Front branding still says XHDATA not SIHUADON 🤔
@@aishwaryap Wow I guess there are so many original radios with new changes? Hope you find your performance of the radio is good.
Thanks for the video, a quick question, can it scan? I am hoping to use it as a scanner for the air band as well as the HF use.
many thanks...
Great
Hi Simon, great video! You mentioned CW a couple times. I'm wondering if it has narrow filters? I've been looking for a small general purpose receiver that also has filters for CW. Maybe this is it?
Not that I know of. I don't have the radio with me at the moment to check.
Not many people know this, but the XHDATA/Sihuadon D-808 is actually copied from the Digitech AR-1780 that used 4 AA batteries instead of a single 18650 lithium ion cell. Even XHDATA's user manual was literally copied from the AR-1780's operating instructions. This explains the confusing "Charge" function underneath the "SSB" button mentioned in the D-808's user manual.
For reasons best known to the manufacturer, XHDATA branded D-808s are sold only in the metallic grey finish, while Sihuadon versions are only available in black.
Thank you for that interesting info !
I just received the Sihuadon D-808 which I compared with the XHDATA D-808 and I found a difference in the loudspeaker which seems to me to have much less bass on Sihuadon and that's a shame. Have you noticed it? and how to fix it. THANKS
Thanks for your comment. That is interesting ! I don't have the XHDATA version so I have nothing else to compare the Sihuadon to. Has anyone else noticed this ?
Hello Simon , I also have this model of the Xdata , I like the radio , but unfortunately the finish coat paint surface wears vey quickly , your model may be different as it looks like a different colour .
Hello Julian. I don't have it with me at the moment so cannot comment on the colour. I have only carried my receiver around very infrequently so it has not yet experienced wear and tear.
I like the pl-880 better
How do you switch from usb to lsb or vice versa ? I can click on the ssb button repeatedly sometimes it happens sometimes no .

Dear sir I want to buy XHData D808. Which one is the best older version or newer version?
This depends on your preferences. There are some videos on youtube addressing this topic.
Did you buy one, which version did you get?
Older version is better on SSB, that is what I have found by comparision
Hello Simon, I have watched several reviews of this radio and all I’ve really heard is a lot of interference. Is this what it’s all about?
What you hear depends on what antenna you connect to it and where it is located. The built-in whip antenna works fine for me when outdoors.
@@fotografm thanks for reply and advice. Why don’t reviewers review these radios with the right antennas and set up so we as viewers and potential buyers get to hear some broadcasters rather than loads of hissing and interference.
@@fotografm. I do appreciate the clarity of your presentation and will view other videos that you have posted.
@@strontiumstargazer103 Thank you !
@@strontiumstargazer103 would be a good idea wouldn't it !!!
