While this video and the last was very interesting, it still didn't answer a question I had:
      What happens in Asia?
For one you have the British in India. How would a German victory affect British rule? Would the Germans try and grab land in India or French Indo-China? And what about Japan? Would they still go for China despite Germans holding land there? Not only that but Japan was on the side of the British during the war, what would they have to pay because of their defeat?

Until you realise the large culture of so-called 'scientific' racism and anti-Semitism that would flourish under the continuing Militarist-imperialistic culture that Germany was the centre of in the 1900s that would only be reinforced by its victory. OHL wouldn't be so quick to give up it's power that it had gained in the war you know.

    • @ultimusborussiarum9333

Around 1900 rasism and Anti-Semitism were spread around whole Europe and Nothern America, the whites always thought to be something better than people of other skin color. And there has been a mistrust against Jews for hundreds in whole Europe because they had a different religion than the Christian majority.
Saying that Racism and Anti-Semitism is something typicall German it stupid, have look at the former apartheid in South Africa and in the US.
This scenario would be a far more better timeline than our history was. The lives of nearly 100 Million people and even architecture, art and other culturals objects would be saved.

Without the UK and USA in World War I, the USA or Canada would not have had food shortage in the late 1910s.
Grain shortage was a main reason for the 18th amendment (prohibition), which would not have happened in this timeline.
No prohibition means no mob rule, and probably no FBI.
With surviving German heritage and without prohibition, American beer would have remained at the high quality it used to hold until the 1910s.
German dominance over Eastern Europe, and no Soviet collectivization of farms, would mean that beer would replace vodka in much of Europe.
Over the following decades, the rest of the world would adapt Western drinking habits.
It would be a world of beer.

I mean, no nazis, almost no communists, no holocaust, no second war (because the loser simply can't start one), Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire broke down in a much better way, so stable Middle-East and Central-Europe, far less civil wars...not to mention no nuclear bomb. Even if there would possibly be a cold war between someone, I think it actually would be better XD

You'd still have invention and innovation. Nuclear weapons (and power) would still be developed. Technologically, we'd probably be about where we are now, just possibly with more German influence on the world market. Yes, the United States would be different, but I don't think in a bad way. Heck, we may have even had our own little war with Japan, given their ambitions following World War I.

Gabriel Angelo Well for one thing, those things would’ve probably been invented anyway because Germany isn’t known for anything if not it’s ingenuity and America wasn’t big on imperialism or colonialism or whatever ism you want to pull out of your ass that has lost all meaning because it’s used so frequently and that those words carry no weight anymore. And besides, the Europeans were far more heavily invested. To spell it out for you, Intervening in foreign wars and propping dictatorships ≠ Imperialism or Colonialism

An important note: The german empire wasn't an absolute monarchy, but rather a constitutional one somewhat similar to that of Britain's (the aristocracy was still generally more powerful than in britain, but there was universal male suffrage, with a capable and powerful parliament). It wasn't fully democratic, but it certainly wasn't autocratic, or even an aristocratic oligarchy, but rather a weak democracy.

    • @ravioli3807
      @ravioli3807 4 роки тому +21

@magicblanket Well, sometimes it's a mistake, sometimes not. On one hand, Wilhelm should have listened to Bismark about an Russo-Germanic alliance, on the other hand, Bismark at his old age was raving about the liberals and workers rights and wanted to preserve the old at the expense of Germany.

    • @erenmuratkuskulu5725

Germany actually had a different type of constitutionalism (Prussian Constitutionalism) than most other constitutional monarchies, in this system, the Kaiser was able to intervene in politics unlike England/UK, in which the monarch is purely symbolic and has no political power other than shutting down parliament. Yes, I am late to this.

Gray Tide in the East by Andrew J. Heller. The book follows a path for German victory as spelled out in the Part 1 to this video. Germany doesn't violate Belgium neutrality, and concentrates it's armies in the East, defeating Russia rather easily. England stays out of the war, and France exhausts itself in one disaster after another.
There are I think two sequels to this book, which I have not read, but which go into the growing international tension between Germany and the United States after the war.

I am currently writing a dystopia about what would happen if the war in Ukraine causes WW3, from a German perspective. I absolutely love history, and I am one of the few Germans who recognises the German empire as the first United German state and not as just some anti-democracy. So I may do that as well. Maybe in the Midwest of America and in Germany itself when one of the characters goes to study in a German city like Köln, Berlin or München. That's actually a pretty good idea, I might do that after the nuclear dystopia.

Facism would still come, probably in France since it nearly happened in reality (a failed coup in 1934). But you have no institutionnalised liberalism to face it. Worse still : Germany's ambitions for after the war were huge ! They wanted Belgium anexed, all of French Lorraine and a part of the Meuse + Belfort (a fortified town that stoped them in 1870 and 1914), virtually surrounding Switzerland. In time you could bet one aggressive general would just think "Warte ! Why don't we anexed those German speaking people too ?". Russia would never have been stabilized, if you look at the white leaders it was just another revolution in the brewing. And the US would most likely still be in very bad terms with Germany (anti German pressure mounted in 1915 and war was declared in early 1917, even without direct fights between armies, it was too late for the two countries to just "be friends" anymore). The matter of Japan remains unchanged, and the Pacific War still has to happen. All in all I think that except (and that a big EXCEPT) there might be no Shoah, this timeline might be even worse than ours, with longer, unending revolts and wars.

Just to add something here, Cody:
If Germany took Poland, there would have been a continuation of massive Slavic immigration to the United States (and possibly even to German colonies). The reason the United States did not become more Slavic is that the First World War cut off the tap, but between 1890 and 1915, massive numbers of eastern Europeans entered the US. Then, with Poland being independent for three decades, immigration tapered off, except for a mostly Jewish blip after the second war. If Germany kept Poland, a traditional enemy, they would have encouraged this emigration, as the thirty percent German minority and twenty percent Jewish minority would have been the ones to benefit (and people forget that before the Nazis, Jews were heavily pro-German/ pro-Austrian, as these empires were good for business).
Moving past Poland, Ukraine would have also continued to be a massive source of new immigrants. This is because the ethnic Ukrainians have never been more than about half of the population, and being empowered by German backing, they would have encouraged the continued departure of minorities. The Austrians and Germans have always regarded Ukrainians as just another Slavic race, but they used them to fight against Russians, Poles, Czechs, etc. It is doubtful that Germany would be concerned with the internal policies of Ukraine after the war, as long as the resources kept flowing west. Furthermore, with the Soviet Union not rising- or at least the Russian civil war continuing for decades- it is possible that Russia as well would have seen a continuance of this trend.
One of the least discussed topics in history, is how Slavs became the predominant source of new immigrants after 1890. Obviously, while the Kaiser was not a believer in lebensraum per se, Germans would not have to leave Germany to have land to farm, something that caused massive numbers to migrate to the Midwest. They could simply use things such as legal manipulations, or in the case of Poland, declare that the Russian owned estates were now to be redistributed to millions of German veterans. Illiterate and uneducated Slavic minorities, such as the Poles, would not exactly be able to suddenly seize the lands of the Russian nobles, as they did after Poland became independent in 1918. They would not exactly be able to take the jobs in factories, as they were too uneducated, and millions of Jews in the pale of settlement could have easily helped the German cultural conquest of Poland (and would have been more fitting to work in a factory, as most were not farmers, and had a rudimentary education).
Just as millions of Americans look to Ireland now, would a more Slavic United States have a different relationship with a German Europe?
Would there be race riots in places like Milwaukee, between the constant stream of dispossessed Poles and earlier German immigrants?
Would these Slavs get along with the Jewish communities in the United States, which were very pro-German until the Balfour Declaration?
Furthermore, I think you forget that Austria Hungary's main issue was that each ethnicity in the Empire wanted the same relationship Hungary had, to be an equal partner. When Hungary became elevated to that status, they began to force non Germans and non-Hungarians to assimilate in their half, which also caused massive emigration to the United States. If the Empire would have been triumphant, who is to say that they would not continue these policies?
The neat little ethnic boundaries in western Europe are nothing like those in the east, where dozens of ethnicities always lived in scattered pockets (such as Ukrainians in Serbia, or Germans in Rumania). It was the same in the Ottoman Empire, where Turks were all over the place, but so were Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, and many others.
Instead of those two countries dying, there is a definite possibility that by winning the war, they would have simply continued their policies of forced assimilation. Serbia would almost certainly be absorbed back into Austria-Hungary, and there is a good probability that the Turks would have at a minimum gained political control of the Caucus and Greece. The Turks still had a caliph in 1918, and it was only the war that ended this institution. A Turkish victory could have convinced millions of Moslems that "Allah had willed it." People forget that the Arab rebellions against Turkey were based on the fact that secular Arabs convinced the religious majority that the Caliph was corrupt and not truly Moslem. A major victory would give the mullahs (who were paid by the state), the popular authority once again. Just as Ataturk rose because of the Ottoman Collapse, and that is why modern Turkey is a secular Moslem state, the literal "Young Turks" would have been harshly dealt with. And as long as German companies were allowed to do business in the empire, the Turks would have been propped up as a useful ally. The Germans ignored the massacre of Armenians all along, so what did they care if the Ottomans built their unity on a resurgent religious faction?
As you say, Germans feared an unstable Russia, but they would not have wanted to see their two allies collapse, either. Not for economic reasons, as more countries are harder to deal with then two clear cut states. Not for political reasons, as Germans are not stupid, and they know that the UK and France would be out to get them. A German superpower would be more like that of China, then that of the US. China does not interfere in the policies of African states, as long as the Chinese are making money, and Germany would not care what Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, Ukraine, or any other pro German state did within its borders, as long as German banks controlled the capital in those countries.
The German Empire was not Nazi Germany, but that did not make them overly concerned with human rights, either. While Prussia stopped racial discrimination against Jews in 1867, France had the Dreyfus affair thirty years later.

I dunno. Germany was on an endless quest for expansion and through expansion of occupied territory comes war. I doubt the timeline would have changed much like he states here but merely prolonged WW2 to perhaps a larger and more catastrophic war ending in more deaths and most likely more suffering. Better for the ruling elites sure. For the rest of us, not likely. The monarchs have complete control and democracy would almost be a thing of the past. IT would in fact be a lot worse. A lot.

+Crafty Veteran Pre-WWI most European countries were on an endless quest for expansion. The reason that changed is because of the horrors of modern warfare and the vilification of the title of "Empire". Germany did end it's quest of expansionism, but after the Great Depression hit and with all the economic problems Germany had, someone with ideas like Hitler's probably didn't sound so bad at the time, and such with the rise of Fascism in Germany that quest for expansionism was reignited. In this timeline that AlternateHistoryHub (AHH) provided you would likely have seen a similar thing happen with the vilification of Empires since the war was still terrible, and caused by Imperialism. WWII, if it were to happen in this timeline, would likely be fought between The Central Powers + USA and France + Britain (+Russia?), I'm not sure how Japan would fit into this war if it did fit into it at all, but if it was in the war, it would most likely be a third pact or with France and Britain, judging by their relations with basically all of the Europeans, with the only cooperation being with Britain prior to WWI in our timeline. So assuming Japan ignores European affairs that just leaves Europe as the only theater of war in WWII. It is impossible to gauge how bad the war would be and who the victors would be, but it would likely be on the scale of WWI in terms of how bad it would be. Also Democracy wouldn't become a thing of the past. The United States wouldn't give up it's entire history and culture simply because Germany was monarchist, so democracy would not die out.

It means Liberalism and Social Democracy (if you think of the Democratic Party after reading the world Liberalism you should google what it actually means). Women's rights would take much longer to be strengthened even in more progressive countries (women couldn't even vote in most western countries in 1914). Workers Unions, social safety nets - all these basic things would take much longer to be implemented, if implemented at all. Racism and anti-semitism would still be an issue in Germany and with larger influence it could stay an issue around the world for even longer.
As already said above, Colonialism would be a much bigger issue and it would take longer to come to an end. The resulting wars would still be fought at some point and if anger built up even longer, it could get even messier than in our timeline.
If you think about the actual historic context, you wouldn't be as sure as you seem that this alternative world would be better.

It's history of nationalism, a kind of perceived backwardness compared to France, Great Britain and later the US, anti-semitism, militarism, conservatism and feel of superiority towards most or all other countries nearly demands it. WW1 wasn't the reason for the rise of Fascism in Germany, it was only the triggering event. The reasons would still exist without it or after a german victory.

Mussolini’s would have probably stayed a socialist tho, until WW1 he was part of the Italian socialist party (he was kicked out because he was pro-war). Fascism, like we know it probably wouldn’t have happened or would come much later. People like Hitler and Mussolini just profited off the instability of the economic crisis, the soldiers being out of jobs and the nationalism in both countries. Without the Italian people being enlisted/conscripted into the army, the number of unemployed soldiers after the war wouldn’t have been as high in this timeline. Also the Italians wouldn’t have the feeling of being betrayed by their allies in that timeline (after WW1 the allies didn’t give all the lands the Italians wanted) diminishing the radicalization of Italian nationalism.

      Well,
      - Ottoman Empire was much more tolerant to ethnics and religions than Turkey in our days
      - Ireland proably became a united state as Germany wanted the English kept busy with their western coast
      - Arabs were betrayed in both scenarios but could expect to have more homogene boarders, so less conflicts than today
      - kind of cold war today England/France vs. Achse powers
      - USA history wouldn't have change much but investigated much more into pacific area. Perhaps first man on moon an european?
      - colonies were no economic win indeed and would became indepandent over the years. But German language still spoken in some parts of african continent.
      - open question: could Germany Austria-Hungary solve the internal natinalities struggles? In a good way the monarchie became a role of representers for all their peoples and political power shifted completly to local and Reichs parlaments. In a bad way, Wilhelm II and Co. kept in Deutschtum that would have lead into another Sarajewo for sure.

on the other hand, the world will be less populated, and with less pollution as well since globaliztion wouldn't happand which means some places like China for exemple would have better history then the modern day china, and less slavery under globalistion, but more slavery under german imperlism, global warming wouldn't happand and alot more stuff about how such a victory would infulence the world for the better or the worse.
Welp as for me, I wouldn't exist without allies victory on ww1, so I guess its better for me that the allies had won the war.

Is everyone going to brush over the fact he was talking about the horrors of post ww1 in Germany and Austria-Hungary, but not in the Ottoman Empire. In my opinion, we had it worse. A civil war, War against Greeks ans Armenia in 1920, Bullied by other nations and of course debt. The Ottoman Empire is barely spoken about when this subject comes up. The battle of Gallipoli, the Russian front where almost 1,000,000 men died from being left behind. My ancestors deserve more consideration and thought when this topic comes up. Of course when Ataturk ruled and war in all fronts was over, we got back up on our feet and pushed forward, but it took a lot of doing to do so.

Austria would still have collapsed, it was inevitable no matter what happened because by 1914, the various ethnic groups in the empire were all becoming increasingly self-aware and making gains in their own self-determination. The Czechs and Serbs particularly were unruly and not keen on living under the thumb of the Germans. Hungary even was moving away from the German populated Austria and soon broke away as Austria-Hungary disintegrated. The Poles, Serbs, Romanians and Italians in the empire all wanted to break away and join their brethren and all did so once the monarchy collapsed. The borders would have been very different though, Hungary lost about half of its territory to Czechoslovakia, Romania and Yugoslavia and would have been far better off in every sense if the central powers had won. France would have been the biggest loser of the war, having to give up much of its African empire, pay huge reparations all over again and massive social upheaval at home, a French Hitler is not as unlikely as some would think... as France had already something similar in Napoleon.

It would probably be more of a diplomatic seizing of the colonies rather than because of invasion, for Belgium at least. The type of thing like "give us yer colonies and we wont invade you" and in this case i think the Belgians would agree seeing their military might being showcased right on their border.
As for the British Colonies they would probably have been seized via border conflicts since the Germans could get troops their easier. Either that or a war with Britain afterwords for the colonies where Germany would seize the colonial lands then probably hold against the British, Britain would probably not get a lot of support so it would likely end up with most fighting in Africa, which Germany would occupy as they would be able to mobilise a larger army there with their allies or them blockading the Mediterranean so Britain would have to sail down to south Africa at which point Germany would likely have or be close to full occupation.
at least that's what i think.

    • @jackbarnes7432
      @jackbarnes7432 5 років тому +8

@@michaelwilkinson2484 Not necessarily. Britain isn't going to suddenly start a war they know they can't win. And even if they did, there's actually very little that either side could do to each other. The German's were no real threat to the British Home Islands and their war machine wasn't capable of doing much in Africa, mainly due to their limited navy and ocean access (and even if they try and invade through the Ottoman Empire, the British could use the Suez and Egypt as a strategic choke point and deny the Germans any access to Africa via land). The reason why Germany suffered through the Treaty of Versailles is because the Allies literally occupied Germany so they had no choice but to accept the harsh terms. If the German's cant invade and occupy Britain or it's colonies, then they're not going to be able to force them to give them up.
The only thing that could realistically happen is that the British and Germans sign a white peace when both sides realise that they're not going to be able to do much to each other. Maybe a few colonies are exchanged between the two empires so that Germany can form it's large African colony, and the British are allowed to occupy a couple of French colonies.
But no way is Germany going to be able to inflict a Versailles-level harsh treaty on the British, as the only way they'll be able to do that is if they invade and occupy the Home Islands, which is simply not going to happen.
