That wasn’t a threat lmao. It’s a natural progression of events. If someone raises claims against a company and those allegations are found to be false the natural next step is to proceed with a defamation lawsuit. That they specifically went out of their way to assure that they did not intend to follow through with a defamation lawsuit shows a great deal of mercy.

It's not mercy to realize the cost of litigation would massively outweigh the practical gain of a successful suit. Court of public opinion would change very little and she definitely doesn't have the money to effectively compensate.

I think they should go for it. Too many people these days don’t seem to understand that there are consequences for making false accusations. Largely, because society has taught them that, but there needs to be a point where consequences begin.

Yeah No… Telling the public that the investigation not only proved no wrong doing on LMG’s part, but that their independent investigation showed possible malicious intent by the former employee, who may have even been attempting to extort a settlement out of LMG if they felt the need to clarify the extent in which this entire thing was fabricated… It sure feels like people feel comfort attempting to extort settlements out of companies and public personalities… I personally think that knowing the distinction between the lack of evidence for harassment, and intentionally fabricating that harassment, sorry that’s a very important distinction!

You are correct, which is why it took so long, and why any good system, software or not, has an audit trail. Though with the digital era it made it a lot more simple as every message, email, account access is logged and stored. Though the second, video and in person calls are often a way to get around everything being tracked. The best way to address this is, A record your video calls if you can, or B send a follow up email summarizing the call/chat (aka create the paper trail yourself). Even if its something that isn't something that you can send to someone else like harassment, keep a detailed log of who, what, when, where, etc.

I think she should be sued. If these findings are true, then the damage she caused should be considered. This will make future claims to be seriously considered if they arn't true, if you know you might get sued in reverse if the claims are false. False claims are just as harmful as if the Harassment had happened. Only, instead of it affecting one victim, it now affects an entire company (of innocent people). These kind of claims are not a zero sum benefit to the claimant. People need to start getting in trouble for the actions they do if it was done with false pretext.

Even when the "victim" turns out to be the one who acted in bad faith, there are always people who try to defend them. I think its fine for LMG to mention that they could launch a defamation suit, but are willing to be decent about it and not pursue one.

Mentioning defamation as a suit is absolutely justified. She made claims of SA, bullying and other extremely serious crimes and the findings were that she either lied or exaggerated, and that all issues were addressed. In all likelihood (as long as findings were accurate) she did this on purpose. So having the counter play of a lawsuit is extremely justified. If you lie, better make sure you can’t get sued.

The apology was for members of their team trying to claim superior data accuracy compared to other news outlets, specifically calling out GN (even if they didn't intend it to come out like that) when they've made their fair share of mistakes. GN fired back, and that's where the controversy started. Also selling/auctioning that prototype waterblock.

  • @juansolo7485

The independent investigation is only as good as the information and corroboration LMG provided them. Much of what Madison mentioned was stuff that occurred in the background behind closed doors, and from people she worked with or worked under. And what company committing such acts would accurately log them for third parties to find? "Hey today Mike the manager asked Madison 'how do you like to be fucked?' and Madison never brought it up so we did everything right". These things by their nature are very hard to prove, think back to bullying in school, if a kid called you a slur and said he was gonna beat you up when you were out on the playground away from others, there is no way for you to magically prove that to your teacher, all you can do is tell and hope the teacher catches it the next time, but if you keep reporting this over and over again, and the kid keeps on his best behavior, now suddenly you get meetings and sit downs. Its very easy to believe that she may have reported stuff early on, didn't have enough evidence, and that LMG investigated those things as best as they could, but couldn't find evidence, so they had to move on, and this could have a very negative effect on Madison reporting things even though LMG did everything right.
LMG could have done everything right by the legal or corporate standards, and these things could arise, anyone who's ever worked for a major company has seen shit like this happen.
Note that the report said the claims were "unsubstantiated" as in they had no paper trail or evidence, that does not mean the same thing as "false" or "lies". They did say that they made errors in the on boarding process which Madison also stated, so she's vindicated in that regard. People are laser focused on a few of the things she stated and acting like that was all she said, she talked about inappropriate comments from some workers about her sex life, she also mentioned people calling her work shit, or talking down to her when she asked for help with the workload of managing their social media, and meetings after she reported poor behavior where they asked her questions that seemed threatening, and that the workload itself was just too much, which is believable for their size and publishing cadence.
I don't think Madison Suop was out to get something, or make something up by making false claims, they confirmed there were problems with how she was onboarded, she left LMG very abruptly and has been doing her own thing quietly for a long time now, nor did she pursue any legal action against LMG. She also mentioned that it was a dream job, and that there were fantastic people at LMG. I don't see the evidence of someone making shit up for personal gain, she didn't gain anything by divulging this stuff, I don't think that what she said was 100% what happened and exactly how LMG meant to behave, I think its how she perceived it, and how the system they had handled things. Its a big company, I'm sure they have assholes and creeps, and no matter how good of a system you have, people like that can skirt by responsibility.
