More than a thousand Harvard students walked out of their commencement ceremony yesterday to support 13 undergraduates who were barred from graduating after they participated in the Gaza solidarity encampment in Harvard Yard. Asmer Safi, one of the 13 pro-Palestinian student protesters barred from graduating, says that while his future has been thrown into uncertainty while he is on probation, he has no regrets about standing up for Palestinian rights. “This is an ethical stance that we’re taking,” Safi says. We also hear from history professor Alison Frank Johnson, one of over 100 faculty members who voted to confer degrees on the 13 seniors, who describes Harvard’s punishment of them as an “egregious departure from past precedent,” as was the board’s subsequent overruling of faculty. “We hoped then that the Corporation, as it has always done in the past, would accept our recommendations for degree recipients and allow the 13 to graduate, which they chose not to do.”

I’m a 79 year old citizen of the USA 🇺🇸 and I stand with the students. They still have their moral compass 🧭

I am 69 years old and about to witness the fall of my country
What a sad state of affairs
I'm 72 and feel the same way.
I'm 74 and I fear for my grand children's future
Putin and Xi love the new America dearly, all 3 countries are at the same level 🤣
Unfortunately it’s been a long time coming..
I'm 59, and the fall of the country is in no way guaranteed. What about us, and what we do about it? The sad state of affairs is that millions of Americans have not risen up over many years to make the country better. Why do we sit by and let things happen that we say we don't like? Has the country ever been what it should have been? Why do well-meaning people keep voting for Democrats when they've done nothing significant for working people since Medicare in 1965? The Affordable Care Act did help millions of people to get health insurance, but millions of others still can't afford it, so it was not a solution. But we didn't need more private health insurance that may or may not approve to pay for a treatment. We should have had Medicare for All, which Obama said he supported as a Rep. in Illinois. We should have long ago increased the Pell grant to pay for tuition, but Jimmy Carter gave us increased student loans. We should have turned the minimum wage into a living wage, but Democrats put it at $7.25/hr in 2007. We should have strengthened unionization, subsidized child care salaries, put Pre-K salaries on the same level as other teachers, lifted the Soc Sec tax cap, etc, etc. We can have all those things if we do something to get them. Vote for someone who supports them all. Fill the government with people who care about us.
Like Prof Richard Wolff said, private universities don't pay taxes and they get enormous subsidies, also their grants effectively come from the government. So they are public-private instiutions funded largely by taxpayers so they should be accountable to taxpayers.
Similar to churches?

money buys evil over and over again, the USA is finished as a moral leader.
It's always about the money.
Respect to students and faculty who stood up for free speech and right to peaceful protest.
Hell no. No respect for these pro-HAMAS criminals.
Clearly the administration (which either hasnt given reasoning or wasnt presented in the video) feels they violated the overall code of conduct that is the agreement which grants people who abide by it the protest rights. For argument’s sake, this sure sounds like “2,000+ people violated our code of conduct, but only these 13 went far enough that we feel punishment that deters one of the key tenants of our academic mission is warranted.”

I'm sure you were proud of the Brown shirts and the Black shirts. Never a problem finding ignorance and prejudice out there.
International shame on Harvard
That's the spirit Harvard! In this case to protest is not only a right but a duty! Defend you integrity! Go Harvard!
Hear here!
Its just for pictures and parents anyway. You still graduated when you completed your requirements. No loss.
One way to bring this corporation to your knees, is for students to stop paying fees, as part of their protest. Only, make sure that such participation is on a mass scale not just couple of students. Even for faculty to not show up for their lectures starting tomorrow.
‘If liberty means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.’
-George Orwell
The students did! But you can't infringe on other people civil rights. That's unlawful! Encampments in non-zone areas. Unsafe structures were put up. The hazardrous sanitation was involved. Unlawful check points on others, students' right to study without interruption and tension. All campuses provide an area to debate. Did they get a permit to protest? All students signed an affidavit to follow campus rules. They were city ordinances that were broken regarding hazardrous waste. There is no open room to get an ambulance in case of an emergency. Think breaking traffic laws! It brings caois.
"The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are.
The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, it's very brightly colored, it's very loud, and it's fun for a while.
Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?"
And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride."
~ Bill Hicks ~
That also includes the right to suffer for your actions.

How can this be legal? These students have paid for their years of education, haven't they? In my country, this decision would be immediately sanctioned by the Ministry of Education, the University would be blamed and obliged to give these students their diplomas.
Welcome to the capitalist state of america
In your country, you don’t have an extremely rich of white members on the board dictating policy at a private college who can do whatever they want.
🤷🏽
In our country that same minister presses for more students to be deprived of their rights
They Should All Sue ⚖
Today was the anniversary of my daughter's graduation from a different college. Facebook reminds people of anniversaries by popping out picture "memories" of things posted in previous years. I thought I might send one of my daughter's graduation photos to my daughter by text message, but before I did, my daughter sent me photos of anti-genocide spray painting done on the entrances of buildings at her alma mater. I decided not to remind her of her own college graduation , because, clearly, she is not in a state of mind to enjoy thinking about traditional college graduation ceremonies. If she was still a student, I am quite sure that she would be protesting on campus.
I guess that educational instituitons in America is infiltrated already by Islamic radicals.
How beautiful to be unbiasedly human. Love you wholeheartedly
Good for them! As someone who protested in the 1970's, I absolutely support peaceful protest to force societal change.
And you failed. Vietnam war lasted 15 years and Civil Rights movement failed because you still complain about civil rights today
👏 👏 👏
You were barred from graduating because you were a very good boy! Peaceful protest is what you say you do, but I believe that you were not peacefully protesting that is why you were barred! Especially when you’re out there saying death to America and death to Israel! I hope you’re sent home too!!!
Why weren’t you able to say the truth here, I wanted to hear that. They didn’t mention what you did to deserve to be barred from graduating, that was left out. tell the whole story, maybe show some videos of why they barred you. They are not peaceful. And they are terrorists, not protestors.
Honor for those brave young students who dare to confront the injustice in a country were the color people's civil rights are violated on a daily basis.
Respect to the students rights to be manipulated
Students walked out then you lose it ,that all.
How dare these college deprive our students from graduation and from having their degree after 3+ years at college and taking their tutition . Shameful behavior of this and other colleges and university. Road scholar deprived kidding me. Well done young man. May God bless you always.
Those barred students should sue Harvard University!
@@Xioxermi2024 I’m sure they could get crowd funding to do so
You know they only have the right to have the opportunity to be there, right? Not the right to graduate no matter what?
@@GraceCole-qy6ul Harvard is enslaved to its Zionist-linked donors. The corrupting effect of that on the education Harvard offers is obvious.
Never happened and that speaker knew . Everyone of those 13 marched and will receive their degrees when they have their disciplinary issues sorted out. that was never in doubt. Please learn to read -The Harvard Crimson, NY times, Boston Globe ,anythign with actual facts.
The face of anger of some of the self-important people in the back. “HOW DARE THEY STAND UP TO GENOCIDE???!!!”
Why is this “genocide” more important than the at least 3 other ongoing ones right now?
Wicked assholes!!
That's university top brass administration. They inhabit a parallel universe from faculty and students. Trust me.
Their are millions of students are waiting outside for an opportunity to study. Not for protesting. Ok you have your own opinion, but college campuses is not for protesters. If you want to protest, first you must resign from the college and cancel your student visa. Go Gaza and westbank stand with the people who are victims (from your point of view).
You have thought about this for no more than 3 minutes to conclude what you said. Give it time and question it yourself. Say "hmm what if I'm thinking wrong about this". See where you might end up if you give it more time and patience. @@sarathchandran3503
These young people are amazing!
Well spoken! America has been falling apart for a long time. Injustice, inequality and the lack of democracy, human rights, freedom of speech and choice is deeply disturbing.
Uhm wow yes absolutely... go to Teheran and tell me
What a firebrand. Go girl. Made my hair stand on end. This is the voice of a new America speaking. The old guard better listen up.
The Women are Rising!!!
13 Phds in morality humanity and awareness have been earned !

Send them to Gaza with their degrees. Let's see them apply what they leaned. Entitled ingrates. You can have them.
Open for those who will value education.

What a crock!
It's great to see young people finally beginning to understand the irrevocable value of free speech .
Except that they are often branded as "woke"!
Well said!!!
How is it well said? Speech Supporting terrorists or being antisemitic? I don't think so not in this country.

@@barbaraschwimmer1338 The country has been tottering under the lunacy of woke . What is happening now is a good sign .
Thank God for the students who won't be silenced
Well, they need to learn about following laws too!
We must continuously exercise our freedom of speech, to keep our rights. LET FREEDOM RING.✔💯❤
Resistance is hard and tedious but will pay out without any doubt.
One day and somewhere these students will be honored in the best way they deserved….
After all the money their parents spent on their education these kids didnt learn a thing
Kudos to these magnificent young people who will lead the Planet to a new era. A new paradigm is emerging and has no place for colonialism.
Arab leaders colonized their own people, stop 🛑 milking and abusing Western democracy if you don't practice one
Exactly 💯
Yawn!
I want ALL leftists who hate colonialism REMOVED immediately for they are colonialists, too. Hello! My family came to the New World way back in 1600. All my ancestors lived on the frontier for the following 4 centuries. 99% of the USA are IMMIGRANTS who INVADED North America. So all must leave NOW, right, you young communists. GO HOME.
Harward's students. You are heroes 👍👌👏👏👏👏👏👏
In my book too
YAWN!
The fact is people go to college expecting to capitalize on the degree they basically paid for, but now the degree no longer means much to employers. They look at both the degree and their conduct while earning that degree. The students who participated in the protest are not going to be favorable employees, so even if they get their degrees they will have a really hard problem get a job. In the past it was easy to protest without it impacting one's future, but we live in a world here everything you do is recorded somewhere, where employers can look even deeper into potential employees. I do applaud those student risking their future, so now they need to simply accept the consequences and move on.
You created this mess Harvard. Deal with it.
Thank you Students all over the world for fearlessly carrying and shinning this bright light for love and peace in these dark times.
keep up the Protesting we need to send the world a strong message that Genocide is not acceptable
UN never did succeed on stoping a Genocide not even once in lifetime.😞😞😞
Why can't they go elsewhere to protest.
These kids have the best resumes/C.V.'s possible. The "didn't graduate Harvard because of cowardly censorship" line will only prevent them from working for horrible people and horrible organizations. Any organization worthy of their minds output will be see that line as more valuable than any of their cowardly or evil peers. Those are the 13 best students and Harvard says "these kids are too ethical for us"
The hate filled look on the face of this guy behind the young Black female speaker, speaks volumes!!
The speaker, Shruti Kumar is American , parents from India.
looks like a true zionist.
@@aap223Yeah I knew that from a distance. We are not that kind of dark. Indians have their own beautiful unique shade of melanin I have never seen in black people...who have our own far more spectrum shades of melanin. I was surprised it was a bw making the assumption..no shade it's not so serious just an observation. But back to the point...yeah his body language was fairly slight but it's his beady eyes that tell something....idk what tho
@@jacquelynn2051what strange comment lol
@@jacquelynn2051 yikes - this was a really weird and inaccurate comment. First of all, Indians absolutely do not have more diverse shades of brown than black people - especially black Americans, who are technically a mixed race people due to the slaves trade - nor are Indians more "beautifully unique", by any stretch of the imagination. While I could tell she was Indian due to her facial features, I can see why other people would and probably do think she's black. A lot of Indians I know are darker than me, including the girl in this video.
