I keep red fingernail polish in my chemicals & Loctite drawer to mark the first chainsaw tooth I sharpen, when comes back around, turn saw around, sharpen other side.
One thing I've learned as a heavy equipment mechanic is copper never seize, just works better and is conductive unlike silver...not so. Also I bought the sparkplug adapters to keep valves closed while replacing stem seals. I did my own water/ ethanol test, and found ethanol shield even w non ethanol the humidity puts water in gas.
Great video and recommendations! One very common tool that I use a lot that you didn't mention is the camera on my phone. I take pictures so I know how linkages and springs were before I started ripping and tearing.
A quick tip on the drawers of the first chest you showed us; put a small colored dot or piece of colored tape on the end of the drawer that has the latch. Your eye will quickly tell you which end to use and you wont even think about it. It only takes a minute or two to do and will remove those tiny frustrations that you experience.
Enjoyed this. I like the mounting of the socket strips to the tool drawers. Fuel line getter yes!!! My fav tool I own is my leather grip Eswing 20 oz hammer.
Oh!!! I saw the open end ratcheting wrench in the top drawer. These were made by craftsman ( out of production now). They came in a set of four with eight sizes.(SAE) I use mine all the time. Thanks for the long video. It was great to unwind after a long day at work.
Nice visiting with you today. Lots of one of my favorite tools there. I'm a HF ITC member. I've been using the Bauer line a bit. Years now actually. Drills, drivers impacts, tire inflator and the newest was purchase a 5 AH battery and charger= get the lube gun free. It sure has been nice lubing deck spindles and such. I'm a ex heavy equipment mechanic and now have the adult children and their family all living in the same home. So, some one is has a low tire/dead battery constantly. My mower gas can mysteriously is empty all the time as well. Once in a while they will remind me to refill the gas can! Those small portable air compressor and the power pak jumper unit lets them handle their own disasters and I can sleep in on the weekends. Your common sense "how to" videos have help me to keep the fleet of Lawn maintenance machinery running. Thank you ever so much! Oh, and I too am a Bad Boy mower fan boy. I've a ZT Elite 48" deck with mulch kit. I love the heavy construction and serviceability on the mower. It has the little plastic oil reservoirs for the drives and they're the 3100 series. I have to mow some, not a lot, of orchard grass pasture, so I appreciate the power and dependability.
Thanks for walking us through your tool set. Many people interested in getting started working on small engines are intimidated when they see all the tools many mechanics own. Starting with a set of basic tools can get one started repairing their own stuff and grow a clientele of satisfied customers.
Always take a tool tip from someone who's been there up to their elbows. I used to think it weird when my Dad would make custom wrenches for access to hard-to-reach places on our boat. After owning that boat myself, I too needed special wrenches. If This lady finds something that saves time and frustration, I'm all in. I already got myself one of those plastic repair guns. I have a John Deere that screams for it.
I had two three tier rolling ball bearing drawer tool boxes, a 60 gallon two stage standing air compressor and a 9kwatt electric start generator on wheels all in my 1950 Croft 4'x6' trailer when I was doing 70mph on I-4 NB in Florida and my left rear tibe blew, fishtailing, jackknifing and flipping the trailer,it's entire contents went down an embankment. My Pickup was totaled. I sold everything to the junkyard to satisfy the two bill as I couldn't get it all to NY. 47 years as a Mechanic, 37 years worth of Air, electric and Hand tools, regular and impact in every drive size wasted. If I needed it once I'd need it again (even if I never did) I bought it. I had two sets of O wrenches and ratchets, oxwall ratcheting wrenches. Every conceivable tool. V-8s, V-6s, straight 6's, 4 cyls, one lungers. Small power eqpt. I miss it so much. Thank goodness I can still live vicariously through your videos, Bre. After 30 years as a Wood Cutter and a 15 year hiatus I'm getting back into it for a project in my Hometown of New Haven, CT.
I have a place for everything in my boxes in it’s place, I hate looking for tools and digging thru a pile of them, once I’m thru for the day it all goes back in it places 😊
That Jegs toolbox is identical to the US General 5 drawer mechanics toolcart. The drawer locks are to keep them closed when rolling it around. I got it for $200 on sale from Harbor Freight. It must have come out of the same factory. I have 3 of these and two top and bottom US General tool cabinets. They can be had at a very good price when on sale. I am very happy with the US General tool cabinets. I sat and compared yours with mine because it is in my computer room.
I actually have a channel myself, showing exactly that. How to fix different small engines, from lawnmowers and generators, to weed trimmers. Small now, but channels like yours were quite the inspiration to get started! Thanks for all the great tips and advice!
I bought a battery operated Plastic Welder on Amazon. It uses my Dewalt 20 V battery. Used it to repair a Dolly with plastic connectors holding the wheels. Awesome! Love your videos.
I use the SnapOn T27 1/4 drive 6 inches long bit and works great SDMT627. $14 for the Snap on with life time warranty. They sell Bluepoint for $8 if the truck comes to your area.
I have 90% all snap on tools because for 60 years the truck came every week and I just bought what I needed at the time Boxes and sets were expensive but they are still in great shape Grand sons have gotten them 😢

The red box that says Jegs might be rebranded from Harbor Freight, there is a hack to the drawers. I think you can take the plastic retainer out of it and the drawers should open up just fine.
I just had to put a new drive shaft and prop shaft in a brand new Yamaha outboard engine and it had a moon key to keep the rubber water pump in place so you might be glad that you keep those if you ever do any work on Yamaha outboard engines.

I agree that It's a tool you won't use often but inspecting cylinder bores in small engines (Motorcycles in my case) gun barrels, and even hard to get to home inspections like behind a shower enclosure to look for leaks would make it invaluable. Even though its uses are few.

I'm out in the West Virginia mountains for some of my doings, and I am thinking of using Corn Hole game boards for a riding mower lift. yep. I might need to do that. Away from my main home back in Maryland, I do improvise. hmmm those nut driver impacts look pretty sweet.

Hi Bree, you can easily remove those drawer triggers on your jegs toolbox. They unhook and slide out of the handle. I have the same on my big snap on boxes. They are for if you roll your box around. Good video. Stay cool
Remember the two stroke fuel metering diaphragm video? Was able to help my neighbor with his engine since it had been sitting for a while. After getting fuel to it with some patience, it started running like a champ. Thanks!!!
We are all harware hoarders what you need to do is have your helper or sit in front of the TV and sort them into categories and put them in used coffee cans or food containers. I have my go to hardware in harbor freight 20-Bin Medium and large Portable Parts Storage Case.

Great video. Organizing takes time. Especially when you have multiple disciplines that you work in. I have tools for automation and small engine, electrical repair, Drywall and tile, woodworking and finishing. Welding and metal Work, I’ve been in my current location since 2001 and have just now really got a decent bit of organization going on. I’m probably a hoarder as well. I’m still using up nuts and bolts from when my dad retired as a maintenance man/Machinist and brought home in his toolbox in 1982. You all are making excellent progress while still being able to crank work out for your customers.
If you're going with the Klein meter, go up a step or two to the HVAC version. It adds the ability to test capacitors, and, probably more to the point for this crowd, frequency. I've found I get much more accurate results setting the speed on generators testing the AC frequency than when I tried to do it with a tach.
I'm no pro, and I don't do as much wrenching as I did in my younger days, but I've always enjoyed "good" tools. They are a pleasure to use and can go a long way toward making a huge hassle job a little more bearable. Many of the crappy tools I used in the past simply compound the difficulty/frustration of all but the simplest tasks. Having said that, I do believe there is a point of diminishing returns where bucks per tool is concerned.
My wife bought the first tool box you showed but she got hers at harbor freight and I removed the drawer locks. I have an old craftsmen 3 box tool box which I've had for over 30 years and the top stays open and it's full of stuff. Two years ago for a Christmas gift the biggest tool box top and bottom from craftsmen that was on sale from Lowe's. The top has all my chargers for the battery stuff. A few odds and end tools that are used often. I have a roll around cabinet that has nothing inside and thinking about scraping. Take the wheels off before hand. I built a wooden cabinet to hold craftsmen tool storage boxes with the handle up to store bolts, nuts and washers and other items. One has everything for air compressor fittings. One I keep my oscillating tool and all the attachments together.
Thanks for the toolbox tour. Funny my toolboxes look a lot like Rons lol, especially the tops of the boxes. I have probably 6 rolling toolboxes between my garage and wood and misc. shop ranging from Craftsman to Kenedy and a small Tool Rite for electrical. Hopefully this winter I might be able to organize them a litter better.
Hey Brea! Thanks for the tool box tour. Really liked messing around in your drawers. That box with the latches looks like a U. S. General. I have a much larger one. I hated those latches so I took a popcycle stick and slid it behind the latch and cut off the excess. Now I don’t have to look for the latch any more. If I ever want to sell the box I can easily remove the wooden wedge to return the latch to original function. I like your channel and have used your tips and tricks often. Thanks, see ya!
Nice rack of tools! That old Sears box is a gem, I still have and use my Dad's old "barn style" Craftsman tool box, and have one similar to yours that I repainted and use for specific purpose tools. I used to be all in for Craftsman stuff, but I don't think they are better than HF now. If I need a job specific tool for something I haven't done before, I definitely go to HF. Rarely regretted it.
The latching drawers are good if you have to push your roll away around uneven floors. I have seen what happens when the drawers open up all at once! A tipped over mess!
I have nuts bolts you name it from the 60's and up maybe 50's, if you need a flasher for you 68 cougar i have one, couple sticks of lead(father in law was a body man)for seams when cars were made of metal
Great video as always, thank you for all you do to help us DIY'ers! Those latches on your Jegs box are annoying - had them on my US General box. I was able to remove them though, should be 1 or 2 sm screws on the inside of the drawer and then they slide out.
I trained working on tractors and have tools for that , then cars and more tools, and motorcycles and more tools, gokarts, jetskis, and more tools. And then the last 15 years of my working life I repaired and serviced my own tip truck and the required tools got even bigger!! Now I'm "retired" and working on motorcycles, jetskis, karts, mowers, brush cutters and cars when required. And my mates retire give me MORE TOOLS!! and there are still more tools I need.
I chuckled when you threw the black fuel line on the bench... 19:40 Also, it must be in the name, as Ron's organized chaos area looks just like mine, only he has less of everything than I do.
I love your videos, they have me doing all the maintenance on mowers. Would love to see something on the hydraulic drives I have a Snapper Z Rider Yard Cruiser that I have been getting up and running but haven't had any luck with hydraulic trans info. Keep up the great work. Hope Ron is doing well.
After working for over 40 years and junk yards as a maintenance man the tools that you pick up and gather throughout the years and yeah even the finest now it's time to start play me house in getting rid of them
Always enjoy your videos! By the way I have worked for people from Germany and Austria over the years. Anything from Germany that begins with a “W” is pronounced with a “V” sound. So Wera would be pronounced “Vera”. Conversely anything beginning with a “V” has a “W” sound. For example a friend used to say “Hans, get the Wacuum!” 🤣

I use a red sharpie. It don't stay on there long, but it only needs to stay on long enough to sharpen the chain.
Great for marking bolts, you torqued.
I use a white paint pen
Blue sharpie works for me, but I need to start buying paint pens again. Hopefully the technology has improved over the last 6 or 7 years.

Use fuel line to keep tool box tab from locking door, cut little 1” or so pieces put a slit down them pull the tab and slide on the fuel line.

I've never had a problem emptying out my magnetic trays. I used them my entire mechanic career, and for 20 years beyond.
for your jeggs tool box locks just jam 5/16s nuts in the lock and they will stay in place I have done this years ago and they havent come out yet

Looks just like my Harbor freight toolbox. The latch keeps the drawer from sliding out when heavy tools in there.

Two years ago for a Christmas gift the biggest tool box top and bottom from craftsmen that was on sale from Lowe's. The top has all my chargers for the battery stuff. A few odds and end tools that are used often. I have a roll around cabinet that has nothing inside and thinking about scraping. Take the wheels off before hand. I built a wooden cabinet to hold craftsmen tool storage boxes with the handle up to store bolts, nuts and washers and other items. One has everything for air compressor fittings. One I keep my oscillating tool and all the attachments together.

Thanks for the toolbox tour. Funny my toolboxes look a lot like Rons lol, especially the tops of the boxes. I have probably 6 rolling toolboxes between my garage and wood and misc. shop ranging from Craftsman to Kenedy and a small Tool Rite for electrical. Hopefully this winter I might be able to organize them a litter better.

you can disable those latches from locking every time slide it open and slide a 1/20 nut behind the slied leaver and end of drawer
I have the exact same Sears Toolbox. Got it with my first VW Super Beetle and I have my angle grinder bits and pieces in it now!

I always used a used Bike wheel spoke sharpen the other end to install the rope into the starter housing, very handy

Hey Brea! Thanks for the tool box tour. Really liked messing around in your drawers. That box with the latches looks like a U. S. General. I have a much larger one. I hated those latches so I took a popcycle stick and slid it behind the latch and cut off the excess. Now I don’t have to look for the latch any more. If I ever want to sell the box I can easily remove the wooden wedge to return the latch to original function. I like your channel and have used your tips and tricks often. Thanks, see ya!
Nice rack of tools! That old Sears box is a gem, I still have and use my Dad's old "barn style" Craftsman tool box, and have one similar to yours that I repainted and use for specific purpose tools. I used to be all in for Craftsman stuff, but I don't think they are better than HF now. If I need a job specific tool for something I haven't done before, I definitely go to HF. Rarely regretted it.
The latching drawers are good if you have to push your roll away around uneven floors. I have seen what happens when the drawers open up all at once! A tipped over mess!
I have nuts bolts you name it from the 60's and up maybe 50's, if you need a flasher for you 68 cougar i have one, couple sticks of lead(father in law was a body man)for seams when cars were made of metal

Great video as always, thank you for all you do to help us DIY'ers! Those latches on your Jegs box are annoying - had them on my US General box. I was able to remove them though, should be 1 or 2 sm screws on the inside of the drawer and then they slide out.

I trained working on tractors and have tools for that , then cars and more tools, and motorcycles and more tools, gokarts, jetskis, and more tools. And then the last 15 years of my working life I repaired and serviced my own tip truck and the required tools got even bigger!! Now I'm "retired" and working on motorcycles, jetskis, karts, mowers, brush cutters and cars when required. And my mates retire give me MORE TOOLS!! and there are still more tools I need.
I chuckled when you threw the black fuel line on the bench... 19:40 Also, it must be in the name, as Ron's organized chaos area looks just like mine, only he has less of everything than I do.

Saw the ez pour spout and remembered I needed a new one for one of my gas cans lol thanks 😊
