  • A walk and chat along the beach with the drone following behind me. This video explains to you my thoughts on how important of a decision it was to stay put in mainland China when COVID started circulating. In hindsight, it was the best decision I've certainly ever made in my life and a huge decision for Lee too. Let us know where you are in the world at the moment and stay safe if you're in a country where it's still rife!

as westerners in China at this moment, you play a vital role in presenting the reality of China to the rest of the propagandized world. the importance cannot be overrated and your heart and efforts are greatly appreciated by all Chinese, and the world too, except they don't realize it yet. so, thank you and keep up the beautifully positive vibe.

Western propagandists are viewed with justified suspicion outside of China. If an error in Western perception is identified, use the basic tenets of journalism
to enlighten those perceptions. That task requires journalistic freedoms currently lacking in China. Westerners have had a century or more experience at
      separating reportage from propaganda.

For example, the then US President Bush invaded Iraq on suspicion of harboring Weapons of Mass Destruction, but after Iraq War, *no WMDs have been found* in Iraq. But the Western media played up the war propaganda to stoke Americans for war with Iraq. Now Western media is doing the same to China.

My daughter made the same decision. She would usually come back to Canada, where she was born and got her degree, to spend the Chinese New Year period with us, but she didn't do it this year as the epidemic began to take off, even though she was getting Canadian embassy e-mails urging her and other Canadians to leave. She is very happy about her decision. Likewise, she probably wouldn't know what she would be doing if she came back to Canada and ended not being able to return to China. She would miss her job and her friends in China so much. She's been traveling on the Tibetan plateau over the Golden Week with friends and colleagues, with apparently no concern at all about the virus that has kept us us home-bound for far too long here in Canada.

let me explain from my experience
my home country is a democracy country, yes I can vote but :
    - if I do business I will have to get prepare for extortion from local or government
    - extremely slow work from government if I need things from government. for example my Id card need years to complete
    - government debate everyday but no work. plan change after 5years. government talk only but no work
    - poor and expensive healthcare
    - infrastructure are disasters
    - over corrupt government
    - terrorist bombing
    - media are showing negative new day night everyday
    - racists (religion , race)
    - I can't go out at night, too many robbers(something they can kill you) even can go inside your house and kill or rape you
    - sometimes people will ask what is your religion?
    - media trash talking other country all day
    - too many trash, people throw trash everywhere
    - talk bad the majority religion, then jail is your home.
    - fraction everyehere, too many political parties fight between religion , fight between politics view.
to tell the truth I don't feel any freedom. it's only fake freedom here
    but in China, i can
    - go out at night without worry
    - no extortion from government or local
    - super safe
    - easy and super 方便 life
    - easy to go anywhere( infrastructure is awesome)
    - cheap living and transportation fees
    - i can find any fresh vegetables and fruits I want everywhere easily
    - taobao ( ican find any goods I want)
    - easy to do business (huge market)
    - friendly local
    - i don't need to feel scared from terrorism attack.
this is the true freedom I want. I want to feel safe and enjoy my life. I want positive life not negative life
I stayed in China for 7years. I have many Chinese friends and had been to more than 2cities and villages in china. even in small city and villages the infrastructure is good. I really do thing the government is doing their job very well. many of my Chinese friend from minority to majority all them are really proud to be a Chinese !

Back in January I was in China visiting my Chinese girlfriend’s family. I was forced to go back to the states during COVID to finish school. I even tried negotiating with the uni admins to let me stay since I was taking chinese classes but they said no. I had this feeling in the back of my mind that China was gonna handle COVID better than the US, and sure enough I turned out to be right. I regret coming back to the USA and now it’s been eight months since I last saw my girlfriend since she’s in China but at least I’ll be going back very soon (getting a new work visa now).

Ryan, may I know where and how you are getting your working visa for China? Are you in the US now? I have a friend who would like to get a Chinese working visa. But it seems right now the embassies don't issue any new visa yet, is this true? Your information would be greatly appreciated!

Mary Y I applied for a teaching job in China through a company called English First. They are helping me with the documents required for the visa. The Chinese embassy in the US is issuing work visas right now but the process is very slow, especially authenticating all of the documents (it has taken over four months for me on this step). After authentication is done, my company will apply for my work permit and once I receive my work permit I can receive the visa in my passport. The visa itself only takes one to two weeks to get from the embassy, so the longest part is authenticating. If your friend already has a China work visa, they do not need to do authentication. Hope this helps.

Also, it appeared stupid to fly back to the UK, 11 hours on a flight from Guangzhou to Heathrow, with 200 to 300 other people, looked like a good way to catch it.
