I've watched many videos about China recently. Why do Westerners like China so much after visiting? They all have the same impression: China is clean, safe, advanced, and the people are friendly. Are Western countries not as good as they used to be?
@@josieliftsthingsYou used the wrong map of China at the beginning of the video. In fact, according to international law, Taiwan is part of China. In order to separate China, Europe and the United States deliberately placed Taiwan outside the map of China.
Hello Josie! I loved your video and am so glad you got to experience the real China. Foreigners always go to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. But they don't know that the Chinese characteristic scenery and food are almost all in other cities. There are 293 cities in China

It's so refreshing to see a video like this that presents a different perspective on China, especially when much of Western media tends to portray it in a dystopian light and often antagonizes Chinese people. I'm from Foshan (30 mins drive from Guangzhou) and did my undergrad in Guangzhou. This video has striken up so many memories, thank you for choosing the city! I'm glad you guys enjoyed the city. It's definitely much more chill than Shanghai and Beijing. The market where you guys tried to look for the stanley cup is known for wholesale, that's why people ask if you want one or many. Did you try the dim sum? It's a must-try in Guangzhou. People in Guangzhou are hustlers. They are practical, hardworking, and have a great sense of humor like you experienced. Thank you for showing a side of China and Chinese people that the world doesn't get to see
Hi,Josie, the first place in the video is the community where I was born and raised, called Yangzhong(仰忠) Community. Zhou Xin, an official in the Ming Dynasty, once lived here. He was an upright official, honest and impartial, but was eventually framed and killed. People admired his loyalty and virtue, so they renamed this street Yangzhong (which means loyalty and virtue in Chinese) Street.
Yes , sense of trust is what I felt when I was there, I had the same thought as you, I asked my friend don't they need to check did I pay? He said no, it's all about trust. Of course some shop has the speaker which will notify the shopkeeper how much you have paid, but for those who are selling on a booth or market they don't have that set up. And customers come and go none stop, they don't even bother to check.

Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are China's four first-tier cities, also known as the novice villages for foreigners to travel to China. But China also has hundreds of second - and third-tier cities, each city has its own characteristics, I generally recommend foreign friends to visit the second - and third-tier cities, if you can speak Chinese, you will find great fun. I live in Changsha, known as the entertainment capital of China. I hope the author can see my message and search for content about Changsha. I wish you a happy trip to China.
You seem comfortable and relaxed in Guangzhou. Thanks for the practical and useful travel tips. I'm loving the start of your new adventures in China, can't wait to see where your next stop is! Thanks for sharing.
Love the flag you put in the title of your videos, it makes it so easy to know the location of each video with just a very quick glance, what a great idea
Beijing is the political center, Shanghai is the financial center, Shenzhen is the science and technology center, and Guangzhou is the trade center, so many markets are wholesale markets, so they will ask you if you buy in bulk, because if you buy in bulk, you will have a big discount . Chinese people now shop more online because delivery is so fast. Depending on the distance, it can be delivered within 2-5 days.
Chongqing is syberpunk center, Xi an is noodles and old empire center, Wuhan is crayfish center, Changsha is foot massage and entertainment center, Nanjing is anhui people' center, Hangzhou is Internet center, Suzhou is Chinese grove center, Luoyang is old tomb center, Tianjin is diving center, Qingdao is beer center, Harbin is iec center, Urumqi is dancing center...... china has a variety of different cities and they are all very historical. looking forward to your exploring❤❤❤❤
Actually, the cake you gave to the recipients is from the most famous cake brand, if you come to China again please try their XiaoBei(小贝), I am dying for it!
As a person born and living in Guangzhou, I am glad that you like my city. I do agree that people in Guangzhou are more easy-going than those in Shanghai.
Haha Currently Shanghai-based but spent my college years in Guangzhou I agree😂I’ve met people very difficult to get along with in Shanghai but not in Guangzhou. But young people in Shanghai are generally better, native or not
OMG! I can’t believe you did it! I watched your video last year, and I have to admit, I rolled my eyes many times while watching. It seemed like you needed to do better preparation before traveling to a country where the system is so different from “us.” 😂 But I was also impressed by your bravery. I’m glad you read those comments and had the courage to go back. I really enjoyed your big smile and the chill vibes in this time. Bravo and much love from France❤
No system is perfect. This is the choice of our people. Please don't interfere with our choice. Please come to China. To feel a different society. Welcome welcome
IMO, your current experience improved because your mindset and attitude have also changed, especially locals will welcome you with much open heart if you try to speak their language (applies everywhere).
If you like drinking coffee, you should know the brand Luckin Coffee, which is the biggest domestic coffeehouse chain in China. Their logo is a deer on blue background. And their coverage is very widespread so it's convenient to have a coffee in your trip.
@serriajohn After spend 15 days time in China you can come to HK, Macau, Taiwan and Southeast Asia (esp. Kunming High speed train to Laos and fly the plane to Thailand and Vietnam).
These wholesale stores primarily supply goods to retailers, so they rarely cater to individual customers and the prices quoted to individual customers are much higher. We usually go to supermarkets or shop online to purchase these items.
you are right, I think the wechat was opened to tourists because of your video, and now in China all hotels are open to foreigners, before it wasn't like that. really good to see that
totally bs wechat has been avaliable for registed foreigners and tourist for at least one decade. before covid, hotel is completely open for foreign tourist, Olyimpic in 2008 confirm this.
@@hongyuliu9173and they changed the regulations since 2008. I know cos I lived in BJ before the Olympics and it was very free with foreigners. Earlier this year when I travelled in the NW part of China I was turned down by more than one hotel.
I think your voice of wechat/alipay issue definitely made a difference. You definitely should be proud for making things so much easier for other foreign visitor.
When you go to the wholesale market to buy something, the store owner thinks you are buying a lot of goods to sell. If you want to buy one, you can go to the department store instead of the wholesale market, and if you go to a small stall, you can bargain. In addition, the essence of China lies in the food. Every place has its own characteristics. You can go to Dianping to find high-rated stores. I wish you a happy trip in China.
Actually you can use your We Chat embedded function to take metro/bus.. (just like you pay for grocery/food in a store)without to buy ticket in station.
2:16 you can hear after the payment was done, there was a speaker which was contected to the payment system in the small shop which announced the payment details. So the shopkeeper can proceed to work on other things in the mean time without having to wait for the bank confirmation.
Great video, Josie. I am from Guangzhou, so happy that you enjoy the visit there. One tip, if you have WeChat, you could use Tencent Transit Code, just scan to go through metro, buses, and event boat tour. The code is in Wechat mini app, hard to explain how to set up. I think you can just ask any staffs in subway station to help you, or even just some traveller.
The tower you saw is Canton Tower, is a pretty famous landmark in Guangzhou. I think it is the highest tower in China. Its nickname is Xiao Man Yao, means “small pretty waist”.
i love this! i had a simliar experience going to china for the first time last year and had felt some of the same struggles and would love to be able to go back again for a better experience with what i learnt. love your honestly and your efforts to learn about each country you go to!
Hello Josie, here is a big warm welcome to China! I am a native Chinese born in Guangdong and now living in Shanghai. I'm deeply impressed by your curiosities in everything and having a really open mind to explore them, be it good or bad. I can imagine that you might experience some difficulties coming from different languages, limited access to English Internet tools and even some cunning sales or taxi drivers (they treat the same for non-local Chinese travellers as well tbh), but I do hope you could try more nice food, meet more nice persons and enjoy your wonderful journey!
People shouldn't feel overwhelmed to go to China, get your apps sorted, your payment apps sorted and off you go and be advantageous . Along the way... people will help you. Language barrier? No problem..that's part of the fun.. people will help you nevertheless..even if they dont speak the language. It's not that complex... please dont go unprepared and vlog and make it look like it's so difficult when it's not. I've seen a few UA-camrs do that and it's so frustrating as it makes it look like it's so difficult to have a good time in China
Xi'an is a must-visit place. I have traveled there once and originally planned to go to other places for a few more days, but I didn't want to leave. I will definitely go again. In the scenic spots, Chinese people are all dressed in ethnic costumes, which is very beautiful, as if I had returned to ancient China thousands of years ago.
I do that sometimes paying while moving out of the shop after purchasing something. No one would stop me and check the payment, they know I will pay the right amount and the wire transfer will succeed. That’s double trust of me as a person and the payment system as an infrastructure. ❤
At about 20 minutes, right after you guys got into the car, the driver kept asking something that you didn’t understand. Actually, he was trying to make sure that he picked up the right passengers by verifying the last four digits of your phone number. At 22 mins, the snack you bought is called Niu Rou Bing in Mandarin, which I believe translates to beef patty or pie in English. The bakery at 24 mins is probably one of the more popular brands among locals (Bao Shi Fu or Bao's Pastry), and the servers there were saying that what you bought was made of egg and cream, and that the translation generated by your phone was incorrect. I cannot tell for sure from the video, but I guess they are called Pao Fu in Mandarin, similar to puff pastry. The tea stand you visited is one of the more affordable brands, mostly popular among kids and students. If you want to try something of better quality, I would recommend HEYTEA (Xi Cha in Mandarin) for milk (bubble) tea, or Chagee (Ba Wang Cha Ji) for plain tea. A few thoughts on Chinese cuisines. Nowadays, you can find pretty much any of the eight major cuisines in our four first-tier cities (and they do appear rather homogenous). There are, however, some distinctive differences across the country. One of the main differences that I’ve noticed is that foods in the north tend to more flour-based, and as you travel south bound, they will become increasingly rice-based. When it comes to flavour, natives of the western region (Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan provinces) enjoy hot, spicy ingredients; their counterparts in the east (Shanghai city, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces) generally have a sweet tooth. Dishes in the north (Beijing, and the three northeastern provinces) are generally savoury; whereas those in the south (Guangdong and Fujian provinces) place greater emphasis on bringing out the original flavours of all ingredients. As someone who was born, raised, and still lives in the south, I can vouch that all the cuisines are delicious, and if you get a chance, be open to trying new dishes, even if some of the ingredients may appear bizarre to you. Anyway, welcome to China again, have a nice time!

I live in Changsha, known as the entertainment capital of China. I hope the author can see my message and search for content about Changsha. I wish you a happy trip to China.
仍然建议先从新手村开始,然后再去成都 长沙 杭州 武汉这样的城市。

Beijing is the political center, Shanghai is the financial center, Shenzhen is the science and technology center, and Guangzhou is the trade center, so many markets are wholesale markets, so they will ask you if you buy in bulk, because if you buy in bulk, you will have a big discount . Chinese people now shop more online because delivery is so fast. Depending on the distance, it can be delivered within 2-5 days.
Chengdu is gourmet center
Zhejiang Yiwu is petty commodities center.
chengdu is gays center also
Chongqing is syberpunk center, Xi an is noodles and old empire center, Wuhan is crayfish center, Changsha is foot massage and entertainment center, Nanjing is anhui people' center, Hangzhou is Internet center, Suzhou is Chinese grove center, Luoyang is old tomb center, Tianjin is diving center, Qingdao is beer center, Harbin is iec center, Urumqi is dancing center......

I’m glad you read those comments and had the courage to go back. I really enjoyed your big smile and the chill vibes in this time. Bravo and much love from France❤

外国人的口味跟中国人的口味不一样。他不一定觉得我们的东西好吃。。如果让我每天肯德基我肯定会疯,我的需求是每天要喝小米粥。

Also welcome to Guangzhou!!!
Actually you can use your We Chat embedded function to take metro/bus.. (just like you pay for grocery/food in a store)without to buy ticket in station.
Good to know! I want to visit next year so I'm taking so many notes 😂
Welcome back to China and hope you have a great time ❤

welcome everyone to China to experience, feel, share, comment, advise but not for hate!
Hello Josie, here is a big warm welcome to China! I am a native Chinese born in Guangdong and now living in Shanghai. I'm deeply impressed by your curiosities in everything and having a really open mind to explore them, be it good or bad. I can imagine that you might experience some difficulties coming from different languages, limited access to English Internet tools and even some cunning sales or taxi drivers (they treat the same for non-local Chinese travellers as well tbh), but I do hope you could try more nice food, meet more nice persons and enjoy your wonderful journey!
miss your video so much!
Woo thank you so much!! We are back and ready for a big end of the year with content! Get ready 😉 I'm so excited!
I agree. As long as you are fully prepared, the rest is easy.

Spot on!
After your payment, the amount is announced so the shop can hear of your payment
LOVE IT !!! more places in China please
