the fact that house is 2 million dollars is the real scam

You can't buy a closet in NYC for less that $500,000. My house is nothing special and it costs over $1.1 million.
Exactly 😂
@@tedmarakas2626 it's totally ridiculous
that's really two houses they later connected.
What a stupid law, you can jail someone for stealing other stuff but not a house, stealing is stealing.
This whole video is misleading. That squatter was actually a tenant when the other owner died. These buyers knew about the man living there when the nephew of the old owner sold the house and got a discount for it. These new owners are idiots. They need to suck it up and realize they’re landlords now for their idiotic decision.
Oh honey! There's no penalty in the United States for stealing are you kidding me?

If a Judge or a Policeman owned that house, I bet things would be different.
Not true, I saw a video of a police officer who forced a squatter out of his home and the officer ended up in BIG legal trouble.
Why are American lawmakers doing nothing about this? Who does this benefit? The homeless drug addicts and criminals who illegally squat? Jesus Christ, this country is in shambles if our politicians are legally supporting non-Tax-paying and non-voting rats over good hard working American citizens.
Whoever the realtor was should be liable. They had to have known someone was living there.

I'd move in and make it so miserable for him that he couldn't move out fast enough. unfortunately, he would probably sue me, squatters have way too many rights when they shouldn't have any at all.
Great idea. When the squatter is out go in with 30 big guys and change the locks.

I was wondering the same thing. But I'm pretty sure he can exclude them until they legally get him out. They'll get him out eventually, and he knows it. In the meantime, he has absolutely no qualms about stealing from this older couple. If he was actually being paid $150,000 a year by the previous couple to be their caretaker, and he's renting out rooms by the night, then he's definitely in a financial position to pay rent. Happens all the time in NY..it's quite normal and a regular occurrence..which is why being a landlord is risky business..if there are children involved forget about it !!!! You will never get your property back . When my husband and I were in the market to buy a house . We would see the listings with nice houses for such low prices - every time we inquired , " tenant occupied" sale ..meaning the owner couldn't get them out so they are selling the property with the tenant still inside. Unfortunately it's not always malicious. The rent in NY is so high sometimes when a landlords sells his property the tenants really can't afford to go anywhere else because they lived in the house so long paying under market rent when they have to find something in the current market it's too expensive. That's especially true now post covid ..some tenants really are stuck . What you use to need as a down payment for a house you need for a rental in NY. Unfortunately In this situation it was the seller who really screwed these buyers because the previous owner wrote up a contract ..this guy technically isn't squatting. Because it wasnt a formal lease the seller didn't have to disclose he was there and sold the house not informing the buyer it was tenant occupied. Another issue is when you buy a house " inspections" and walk throughs are performed so I don't know how they didn't know he was there ...the seller and their realtor was probably in on it ...if you don't think it's possible ..you don't know NY the realty industry here is extremely competitive and slimy ..they will screw anybody to close a deal ..I've seen it many times and unfortunately I've been a victim many times.
I heard another story like this. You have to hire some ex-military guys for like two weeks. When the squatter leaves the house for whatever reason, they rush in an occupy it…and then throw all the squatter’s stuff out. Make up a lease with the military guys’ names as the occupants. Change all the locks and have the military guys stay there for at least a week. They are the legal tenants in that place then. That’s how someone else solved this. Even if it costs you $10k to hire that security team you get your house back.
At this point that might be the best idea
Why wouldn't the homeowner just do that himself? It doesn't make sense to me why they don't just walk in, throw the bum squatter out and change the locks.
All I can say is is a good thing that's not my house

I bought a farmhouse in Sag Harbor NY in 1992 and the police told me they had arrested a squatter could I come to the station to sign papers to press charges I sure did that pronto
Kudos to Sag harbor for respecting property
My brother had that problem, people moved in and squatted in his rental house, they cursed him and said he could not throw them out,two days later he bought a few kegs of beer and told a motor cycle club a rough club they could party at the house for two days,he provided the beer and some food.those squatters bugged out quickly.

Sadly the law will work against us.
Got to squat the squater. Maybe get someone to rent it from the guy on his AirBnN listing and then just don't leave. Maybe have that someone write up a contract from the squater that he rented it to them instead.
You gotta go ole school on this miscreant. So, where are the rights of the owners? GTFOH!!!!! I'm sorry!!!! I can't take this abuse!!!!
Just hire some muscle, no bruises, get them out of there
Or do a little bit of due diligence. This is extreme negligence to not know. 😂
Ok, I'm not a realtor but I've purchased so many properties. This just doesn't happen. When you buy a home, you go through a process of inspection after an offer is accepted and it goes into escrow. This is after you've been shown the home and know what you're getting into. It's UNHEARD of to buy a home with a squatter inside let alone going through the entire process of a closing. You know what happened? These people were so desperate to buy this home right next door to family members that they bought it illegally. There was no title company clearing the deed - you as a buyer, don't sign a deed. The seller does and then the title company transfers it over to you and you get it in the mail to keep in a safe place. Yeah, I'm not buying this story. These people were foolish and this is what happens when you don't go through the normal process of buying a home.
I'm thinking there's got to be something along those lines. But it's also possible that this guy allowed them to do the inspections, because apparently he was the caretaker before, and he might have said, sure I'll move out on such and such date and then didn't do it
My thoughts EXACTLY.
Um...WHY does that couple STILL have power/water on at the house (and paying the bill)? Cancel that immediately 🤦🏽♀️

@Kathythomas9352, Who makes ridiculous laws? Democrats, thats who.
Read about a man whose house was entered by a squatter. He still owned homes, so he was legally allowed to make "upgrades" or "remodeling" of his property. So he "hired" three friends and they took out the toilet, sink and tub...and the outside entry doors. All appliances were removed, as well. Heard someone in the neighborhood had "LARGE BOA pet snakes" and somehow they got loose and ended up moving in with the squatter....IN MIDDLE OF NIGHT. YEP...SQUATTER RAN OUT....AND ENTRY DOORS WITH NEW LOCKS WERE PUT ON SAME NIGHT. In my farming town...folks just go give " squatters" a little bonfire "roast" party....and anything left behind is burnt as bonfire trash. USA needs to get rid of "squatter rights" in EVERY STATE! YOU DIDNT BUY IT OR BUILD IT ON LAND YOU OWN....YOU SHOULDNT GET SQUAT!

Um- Did they tour the home before buying it? The previous owner (whoever it was that inherited the home) should not have been able to sell the home until it was vacated.
Does not look like they ever went inside.......Did they feel they were getting a good deal ? sight unseen ?
The video said the previous owner died so I'm just guessing that's what caused the property to become available for them to purchase. I wonder if maybe they were aware of this guy as a previous tenant but thought that when they bought the house, he would have to leave because he'd no longer be a tenant? And didn't expect him to just refuse and this law to take over? Maybe they didn't realize this law existed and weren't informed of it by the realtor because they also assumed the guy would be normal and move out? Idk, this is all pure conjecture
@@sunstripe85 You don't "assume" anything, get everything in writing. They should have specified that the house had to be vacated before closing. Apparently they closed the deal with this dude (who was apparently never a tenant but a live-in boyfriend/caregiver) of the previous owner, still living there.
@@trevorn9381That sounds like the standard language a lawyer would use in the contract. Either the lawyer didn't know what he was doing (that's their job for which they are hired after all) or the seller and the seller's agent knew there was someone living in the house.

Squatter laws have to come off the books, this is madness. Down here in Atlanta returned home from a tour to find a man squatting in her home. It took a serval months before she could get him out. It’s madness.
Judges need to be held accountable for allowing this. I seen one family not get their home back for 2 yrs. Meanwhile the woman is traveling the country with her daughter for cheerleading
People like that have absolutely no moral code. They actually feel good about stealing. Once they kick out squatters like that, they really should be criminally prosecuted

If they were sold the house and cannot move in, they should sue the real estate agency and then let them get their big-time warriors involved and I bet they’ll get them evicted quickly
time to call the homies and mask up.
Florida has a new squatters bill going to the Governor's desk for signature. It give the homeowner immediate right to evict with the assistance of the police if the squatters cannot produce a legal lease. This should be the law in all states.
When we sold our mother's home in Atlanta we thought we may have to put in the contract that my brother came with the house. He was living there rent free and mooching for 20+ years.
How did they sell a home with a squatter in it?
He said he was the previous caretaker of the old couple that owned it, so he must have been living there continuously
THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS.!!!! THEY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO GET ALL OF THEIR MONEY BACK FROM THE STATE FOR LETTING THIS TRAVESTY HAPPEN.!!!! THE STATE SHOULD BE LIABLE TO.!!!!!!!😮😮😮
Well they voted 🗳️ for this so.
Would be a different story if it were a politician's home.
I have better idea, since they are owners, they should have keys to house.. wait for him to leave for groceries.. then quickly get in home and padlock door shut so he can't back in.. then call cops for crazy stranger trying to break in..
Illegal. If he has mail or proof that he lives there they can be fined or go to jail
That such bull! There needs to be a law to protect homeowners from this type of stuff!
Another reason I won’t go to New York
not just a NY problem and its going to get worse before it gets better with millions of illegals coming into the country
Idk if this law is in NY but in illinois a house is uninhabitable without hot water. And i once was kicked out because the landlord refused to pay for gas. (It was a blessing i wanted out of my lease). Maybe they can look for the least damaging way to get the code inspector to make it uninhabitable
Would the idea of 2 men to move in and make him uncomfortable. Perhaps get into his space with loud music. when he leaves the premises then change the locks and call the police???
You have to watch an old movie called Pacific Heights, you'll see that all those tactics are illegal! The squatter will sue and win
You can't do that
I don't claim to have all the answers but another situation happened like this and when the squatter went down the road for groceries the owner ( or friend of the owner ) moved in temporarily and changed the locks and the new 'squatter' has rights over the older squatter and they got their home back........If they squatter never leaves that is one thing but most people have to go out and buy food etc......A neighbor informed them when they squatter couple left the property but you have to change all locks and leave their belonging outside so they can retrieve them. You need to stay in the property so they don't try and return and out squatter you if you get my drift.
wonderful if squatter leaves-usually squatter stays or has someone else in house if they leave
Please finish your GED.
So their family member, next door, didn't know about the guy living there? Perhaps the house is worth much more and they took a chance. Maybe they did know about the man and presumed it would be easy enough to get him out. I've seen others successfully get squatters out - they ought to watch some UA-cam videos. :-)
This is another prime reason why you shouldn't let the government be involved in your business take matters in your hands and take care of the business
Whatever happened to the final walk through when the closing occurred?!?!?! Owners must’ve known!
If that was my house, he would come out, one way or another. He could walk out himself, or the coroner would bring him out. 😅😅
you wouldn't do anything at all internet tough guy, give us a break and go tell mommy to make you chicken tendies.
@@obie224🤣🤣🤣💯
Be honest you wouldn’t do diddly squat…🤔
@@elincognito2135where you squatting at lmao
@trappersdad6855 thank you for saying I’m one of a kind…
Man would have met a pew pew 😊
Business idea: Create a service that uses a variety of legal means, with increasing severity as the situation demands, to compel the squatters to leave. I’m surprised someone hasn’t already done this.
Have a family or friend of a friend move in and rent one of the rooms he is renting. Once you’re in make his life a living hell. He can’t take that person to court because he doesn’t own the property. Take a dump with the door open after eating massive amounts of chili and bake beans. Throw parties! Remove the hot water heater, the breaker box! Have a garage sell when he comes home one day selling and giving away all his stuff. And there is nothing he can do but leave. They key is to have someone their at all times. When that person has to leave and go to work have another family friend come over. And they need to come in shifts.
I think they missed a lot of steps prior to buying this house. Getting an inspection is so important 😊
Bro bought Amityville house and didn't expect problems haha
😂
This story blows me away. This is my third home that I own I would just die if I couldn’t move into it. I’m so sorry for this craziness.
Anyone else here after finding out the squatter and buyers were in on a scam together before it got out of hand and made it to the national media? Wild, it's hard to trust what story to believe.
The government has been squatting here for over 200 years. I'm not surprised at all.
I don't understand why they leave the utilities on
Where I live that house would be a $350,000 dollar house. 2M is outrageous. Secondly, that squatter would leave the second I told him too if it was my house. He would go peacefully or bodily.
the price of the house is all about location not the house itself
This state is going to hell in a hand basket.
I wonder why??? Could it be the leadership???
Why are they paying utilities? Turn all those utilities off!
This is why having a big family is important. If this happened to me and my family, the squatter would wake up in the middle of the woods with broken limbs
Why are they paying utilities? I can see heat but only that so the pipes don’t freeze in winter. As a renter I pay utilities so they should definitely stop paying for electricity and other things. If he wants to keep living there he’ll have to get the electric company to put stuff in his name and he won’t have a lease or anything.
Because in NY if the squatter stays in the property for 30 days and more, they gain tenant rights and all the protection that comes with that designation, the owners become landlords and they must provide utilities and all the rights of a tenancy. If not the squatter can make a case of harassment and illegal eviction to Housing Authority.
I had a friend whose brother went through this. the police and courts did not do a thing...for some reason the squatter was never seen again and when asked what happened to him they just say...he must have moved out of town. ha, ha, ha, ha
Congratulations to the man,
NO HOMEOWNER SHOULDN'T NEVER EVER HAVE TO GOES THROUGH THIS KIND OF SITUATION FOLKS.
why didn't they do a home inspection first before buying the house
I got rid of my squatters in a hurry - no court case needed. I just got a gruffy, mean looking thug to sit in a chair in front of the house for a while.
I told the squatters to avoid him because I thought he was a Mafia hit-man who was casing the joint for his boss as a nice place to rent.
Two hours later, the place was empty.
It ain't what you do ... it's what they think you will do !
What type of house is that. We don’t have them where I’m from?
Seems like there was a glitch in the sale of that house. The guy was living in there......I would sue the Real Estate people that sold them that house. They need to stop paying bills on it....and get their money back. Don't even try to get in. Just get out of that contract. Let the city deal with the squatter and I expect, they would manage to find a way to kick him out of there as he cannot afford to pay the bills. The city would have no problem, breaking in and dumping his stuff by the curb. They can also cut off the utilities. See how long he can stay without anything......
Their son lives in the house next door. Did he not see anything?!
So what's stopping them from walking in and moving in and making things real uncomfortable? Why do they have to continue to have utilities serviced there, why can't they get it shut off? Why can't they "move in" and then just change the locks or lock him out if he leaves?
Not a bad idea. Would be an experience for that DS dude.
What happens if you go in the house, see a strange person in your house and shoot an intruder who turns out to be a squatter? Sorry, you thought it was an intruder.
