The actor that plays Moriarty is such an incredible actor. He's able to make Moriarty so insane and calm and creepy and gentle and everything all at the same time.

That look of betrayal on Sherlock’s face at the beginning of this scene when he though John was Moriarty, the fact that John tried to take Moriarty hostage to save Sherlock, but let go of him when he saw the red dot on Sherlock’s forehead… I think that’s when Moriarty confirmed they’re each other’s pressure points.
I love when he says 'We both know that's not quite true'. He got him there. I think it was way more menacing than any of his mockery or outbursts. Just calmly, intelligently telling him that he sees through him and is aware of his weak point.

Sherlock isn't a sociopath, he is most likely autistic with Asperger syndrome, and I agree Moriarty and Eurus are psychopaths. And according to Moffat Sherlocks famous remark of a so-called "high functioning sociopath" wasn't remark wasn't meant serious, just sarcastic. Sherlock respects law and order, can differentiate between right and wrong, wants to help people and fights against criminals, and Moriarty and Eurus are the exactly opposites to him. How you can't actually see that, I really don't know. But may be you've missed this scene: - In The Hounds of Baskerville Lestrade and John have a conversation about Sherlock: L: "I suppose he likes having all the same faces back together. Appeals to his…his…" J: "Aspergers?" Sherlock a "sociopath," seriously...
I'll always be a bit partial to Jared Harris's portrayal of Moriarty, his calm and confident, arrogant yet intelligent characteristics are how I'd imagine Moriarty. But I gotta give it to Andrew Scott here, his flippant attitude added more to his tendencies towards moral insanity, giving a more unhinged portrayal of Moriarty.
What’s funny is Moriarty called John Sherlocks pet when John tried saving him and Sherlock said when Moriarty ‘left’ “what you did..that was *good* ” as if he was expecting John to do that. Maybe I’m looking too into it 😅 question does Sherlock see John in some way as a pet?
I'd say the odd phrasing alongside the pause Sherlock makes while saying that, is just him not knowing how to put into words how he feels about John's offer to literally sacrifice himself. I'm pretty sure he sees him as a valuable friend, but never assumed anyone to go that far for him.
@@DRZ1984 "But we both know that's not quite true" . (And you quoted that wrong, Sherlock says "I have been reliability informed that I don't have one")
I think what he meant by burn the heart out of you, he meant getting rid of John because Sherlock really cares about John the one person that actually gave him a ‘heart’

Nothing. I don't think bombs detonate by being shot at. It only happens in movies. Anyways, I never understood why he decided to aim at the bombs instead of Moriarty. But then to be fair I never quite understood why Moriarty's hostages needed to be wired AND pointed at by a sniper. I mean wouldn't just one of those two suffice to kill the hostage?
He's too giddy, he'd be a good Elmer's Glue spokesman. He'd beat Conan O'Brien in a "White Off" contest. The best way to play the character is with as few words as possible. That makes it creepier. If Michael Emerson had played him, he'd of won an Emmy
I know this is an old post, but... the storyline here was really quite good. But when Moriarty kills himself like that at the end of the series? What sort of nonsensical gibberish was that? Was he supposed to come back in the shower, ala Dallas, but they forgot the story? Almost as ridiculous as what they did to the episode Baskerville. What a shame.
detonating an explosive devise by having a marksman taking a shot at it ???? how about simple electronic phone detonators ???? no need for any marksman taking shots . and instead of needing to hire 3 people who each are verry expensive on their individual own 1. explosive expert , 2 marksman , you only would need two . one explosive expert and 1. marksman for possible cover . it would save cost of one marksman . a possible witness less to clean up after . making the job cheaper , more clean , easyer to contain and whit less effort . and i get Moriarty was sporting a certain personality and was under influence of sherlocks elder sister , and even in a personal game of either sherlocks elder sister or Moriarty it just makes no sense . 1 person to manny in this scene , and a weird and unnecessary way of detonating an explosive device . and i get its tv , but still ......
Moriarty isn't logical and he certainly doesn't care about pinching pennies. He just wants to make Sherlock squirm. In fact, I thought I remembered there being 3 marksmen in this scene!
