the sound effects of this game were something next level. especially the gun & cannon sounds deliver the feeling of the power of the weapon better than any other game (even any modern game) i can imagine. they just sound so powerful. and the music of this game! especially the menu music is something so brilliant it should be illegal that it died with this game.
wow, my youth: Red Baron, Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe, Aces of the Deep.... never played later Red Baron parts...but the Action Game Wings in earlier times. played these from 13-16 years old
This game is truly excellent, still have the main game and expansion big boxes behind me on the shelf. Played it to death, MArines, USAAC, Japanese navy and army campaigns... The Kikka are a favourite of mine, but nothing beats a Hellcat and Bearcat. Still surprised of how I immersed myself in the mission once I was playing it.
may be, there are many old games at gog. its only a question of time. good place for "old" collectors ; at gog and steam also epic (all free) I have 1500 games...with 3 kids...but we never will play all. collector at special offers
I wish they'd remake this and Aces over Europe. Don't talk to me about IL2 or DCS - this had the best fun-over-sim aspect to it; being able to skip from waypoint to waypoint if you wanted - join any squadron in a dynamic campaign.... Just redo this with modern graphics and sound please!
i was just 2 or 3 when i first saw this game and along with comanche: maximum overkill and F1 grand prix this was the game of my childhood. well, not the 1946 version exactly, but AoP nonetheless.
I love the Aces series, albeit despite A-10, Red Baron, and Aces of the Deep drifting too far towards sacrificing realism for fun. However, AOTP and AOE went (in my assessment) too far in the other direction which is why I find them both the most immersive and most frustrating. It's no fun when there's more enemies to shoot down than your fighter has ammo for, which I'm sure is exactly what the real-life aerial heroes had to deal with numerous times. The mod efforts in this series is phenomenal for what they accomplished with the tools they had, filling in the historical holes Dynamix left out for the sake of getting the games released in time: www.alternatewars.com/Games/Aces/Aces.htm argonv.tripod.com/AoE_Page.html
because of the limited maneuverability of the american planes, i was always reliant on boom and zoom. what were your tactics for japanese and american dog fighting?
Getting TIR working here would be tough since AotP doesn't offer virtual cockpit. Maybe you meant this ua-cam.com/video/Ny36ZHznX84/v-deo.html if so it was Pacific Strike and it was me playing with it ;)
Hello, was wondering if you could help me out with a problem running this game on DOSBOX. When I first tried to play the game it was extremely laggy and slow, after changing the DosBox settings to core=max it fixed the lag issues. However the game now refuses to detect my joystick. (The joystick option ingame remains 'Off' and cannot be turned 'On') If I run the game on slower cycles it lets me change the joystick setting to 'On' but the game returns to its lagging state. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
max is not a valid value for core setting in dosbox.conf, Possible values: auto, dynamic, normal, simple. perhaps you meant cycles=max though that would be an overkill and probably the cause of your problems, try: cycles=20000 That's what I'm using for this game.
@@rebelmerlin902 In those old DOS games cycles setting is often important as it may break some of the auto detect routines for sound cards or other devices - and since joysticks were connceted thorugh game port on a sound card I can believe that may fail too. In LHX Attack Chopper if you set your cycles too high the sound board autodetection will fail and you will be left only with PC Speaker sound. Anyway glad you sorted it out. That freeze you mention is also weird, I don't remember encountering it myself. Might need some more tweaks in the config or game setup (soundcard setup etc.).
@@damsonn Thank you very much for all the info. All these retro game systems are brand new to me (all these systems were made before I was even born) so its taking a lot more time for me to figure things out, but I think I am getting a hang of it.
Reduce your throttle (1-0 keys or +/- keys), drop flaps and landing gear (V key 2 times and L key') line up with the deck. Radio in your intent to land to see the paddles and aim for the deck.
Thanks for the reply Damson, I'll try. Another question, do you know how I can get this image quality? I'm using dosbox and the image doesn't have the same quality as the video.
@@svenhussel try editing your dosbox.conf file, look for these lines and set accordingly: fullresolution=desktop output=overlay aspect=true scaler=normal3x depending on your GPU brand if you get small image try: output=opengl or output=ddraw experiment a bit ;)
@@damsonnthank you again. I tried all the settings and found the closest to your graphics for me was to put your suggestion, but the parameter [scaler=super2xsai] worked better. Now I'm going to play all the careers, good flights my friend.

This was the golden age of flight simulation. Spend many hours playing AoE, AoP, 1942, F-19, FS4 and Falcon 3.0.
I can credit this game for getting me interested in WWII history. Played the heck out of this game back in the day.
Thanks for posting! I spent many hours on this game back in the day. Drove my wife crazy. Just hearing the music again, I am ready to fly!
Wow that music when the UI first pops up is just so extremely nostalgic. Thanks for posting this vid!

My first combat flight simulator was this one. What a memorie and nostalgia

Definitely one of the "I must play this game" from GOG or Steam. Yes GOG or Steam you're missing out on the really good game titles.

Funny to see this now and how simple it looks but man was it fun to play.
Upped before the video started.

How do you play it ?
I tried to download it from myabandonware and couldn't install it (same for aces of europe)
Where can you play this and Aces over Europe?
I saw a vide of somebody playing this with trackIR years ago, dont know how they did it

Press and hold Joy botton 2 and move the stick or press and hold Enter and use arrow keys IIRC.
