Such a classic game! I sunk many many hours into this. I probably did 4-5 full career runs in this, and the 1946 expansion. I remember how hard it was starting out with those early planes - they did NOT fly well. Also played Aces over Europe, but not nearly as much as this one.
Same as me. Born 1985 and this is my childhood. Most of boys likes WW2 planes and this games were great chance to be the "WW2" hero. I liked also Chuck yeagers air combat, Aces of the europe, Dogfight and Red Baron. What a great times for aircraft simulators.
I still have the cd for this game, although I cannot get it to work on anything since it is so old. I remember back then, some computers couldn't handle the amount of memory it used... today, that is nothing.
One of the best simulators ever. Damn what a memories. I liked it so much. And also aces of the europe. But i think Ace of the europe was more difficult than this. AoP career was easier to play.
Between AOTP, AOE and Chuck Yeager's Combat Flight Sim I had a great time back in the day. The coolest thing bout these was they all included a flight movie recorder and some basic film editing features.
The only game where you could turnfight against a zero with a corsair and win. I also always creeped out at the fact that the gunner said something like 'NTL' when shot dead. In essence: all the stuff that Gaijin probably never manages to implement in their game, although they call the process 'aces.exe'.
i played this game for years and only once i saw a moving ground vehicle there. it was a harbor i was doing a ground attack mission, a small car which appeared when i destroyed a building. despite of trying to make it appear again i never succeeded. anyone else remember seeing such thing?
Dur dur...

Ya the US planes sucked until they got the Bearcat. Mustang was okay.
My favorite was the Japanese ki-83
Spent many years of my life as a kid playing this game. :) Thanks for the memories.

i always HATED the missions flying avenger and dauntless bombers, ugh, difficult. Such memories!
I have this installed on Linux Mint and play it via Dosbox using the DBGL front End. Works well.
...and then came Strike Commander.

I used to dominate with the Japanese Oscar I think, it had 4 20mm cannons. One burst was enough to down most fighters in the game.
+David Smith Ki-84 Frank

What do those last couple of sentences mean?
I loved this one too! Why aren't there modern versions of these classics?
IL2 is about as close as you get from modern sims.
