We currently have 10 of the Shehds 19x15 and we ended up snagging 2 275W 10Rs as well. The 19x15s have been nothing short of perfect for our smaller auditorium. We have 6 for key lights (using the white mix + a light touch of darker orange with the saturation pulled back for a 5000k-5200k look) and 4 as wash lights. They're fantastic for the price and, if one of them breaks, they're cheap to replace.
That’s awesome! I’ve been debating on if these would work well as a key light. I was looking at their led 200w par zoom to replace our par key lights but I like the idea of moving head and never needing a ladder again! Lol
@@chrisgazpacho exactly my thought process! The less ladder climbing the better lol
We just installed two Boulder Pros in our old sanctuary and they fit our needs perfectly! Thanks for the reco!
Thanks for the video. The Boulder does seem more responsive, and better at nuanced fades. When I tested the SHEHDS in a large room, I was disappointed to find that the actual "spot" setting is nowhere near the stated 8 degrees. Maybe it's my test unit, but actual was much closer to 20-22 degrees. Your video shows the Boulder as similar, so that part of the video saved me a buncha time. Thanks again!!
Thanks. In our small sanctuary, the temperature fan control might be important. Or upgrade to a more quiet fan. We just put in some of the remote outlets and it has been great. Equipment is usually getting turned off during the week.
Been using the Boulder 19x15w Variable Whites from your recommendation and they've been fantastic. No issues yet. Thanks for your work, Ryland
Awesome, yes we love the VW versions. We have 6 now :)
We have a couple of SHEHDS. I use them to put some color on the back wall of the stage and as spot light for baptisms. I've had no problems with them.
This is a great help Ryland. Thanks.
Thanks for the review! This helps so much!
Been waiting for this video!
If I was setting up a nightclub or private party wedding room I would def start with Shehds over Chauvet. I have owned Chauvet for a decade and I can say it would be a lot more cost effective running the Shehds. Everytime an Eliminator fixture has to be sent off to get fixed the cost is well over $400 on a 80 watt fixture. My use is for a private party banquet room and not a church or theater so motor noise is not an issue. My prior lighting experience was in the 90s with a mix of Martin and Lightwave Research Highend Systems fixtures. I don't miss the Martins but man I sure do miss the Emulators from High End.... Thanks for the lighting review and the experience you bring to the game of lighting!
Bro! I’ve been WAITING for this video!!!!
Same
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I have had 4 of the Sheds RBGW and 2 of the Boulder variable white for two years. Currently they are used in a mobile church and get setup and torn down every week. Still performing flawlessly on all fronts.
Thank you for accurately listing out the challenges and downsides! No, these are not the 'quality' of a Chauvet R2 Wash. Quality control is significantly lower, they use slightly cheaper LEDs, the main board is designed for faster, easier production, so the LEDs are aligned differently, causing slight color differences when mixing colors. There is a reason they are cheaper.
With that understanding, these lights are phenomenal for creating a worship atmosphere. Think of them as the modern equivalent of stained glass windows. Keep up the great work!
Hey there! I'm the worship director at a mobile church. I've been looking to put together a system for us and could really use some ideas. I'd love to connect with you if you're willing!?
The Shehds are great for the money. No complaints.
I ended up going with the VShow “aura” fixtures. I used them for a season. They were great. It uses the same Martin Mac Aura profile which every console has. The aura also has a scenic feature that just glows the lenses up to use as a set piece.
That exact same DMX profile with the eye candy backlit effect makes all the difference. 😊👌
you can change the speed in the advance menu from the shehds light
I just bought 2 of the Boulder fixtures. I’m such a novice. Could anyone tell me how to program these into an ETC Colorsource?
Hey, new to these lights, but amazing price point! I'm just wondering...where are people getting the fixture files for these lights, for use with say, a Hog 4?
Hi Ryland, thank you so much for these videos. Can I ask what device are you using to remotely shut your lights off, or on?
amzn.to/48Qc3qF
Thanks for this video. Very helpful as I am currently working on replacement of our old par cans. Would you think 4-6 of these would be too loud together in an install?
Do you have any moving lights already? We have about 30 and it’s not too loud. It’s just background noise. If you have an a/c fan going you won’t notice them.
@@RylandRussell Awesome, thanks! We have 0 moving heads. We have a bunch of led strips doing wash on the stage walls, then everything else is white par can. Going to replace those with the Shehds 200w cob zoom par light. Then the stage truss would be these movers, maybe a couple of there prism lights on the ends to have some gobo effect. Our house lights are already DMX so I can tie everything together with lightkey and not break the bank. Oh and add haze. Should be a nice upgrade from what we have currently.
Thanks for the info. Can you confirm if the flickering in both sides of the video is cause for this lights?
Na those are old ADJ pars that are behind those side walls. These are flicker free. You may think you see a flicker sometimes on the closeup of me but that was the auto-iso and auto-focus. 👍
does anyone have a fixture file for Road Hog 3 standard blue console
Is itpossible to S.Korea?
Thank you Ryland for this video! We are wanting to replace our old par fixtures with LED dmx controllable, but have zero need for movers. What would you recommend similar to the powerful white key lights but stationary?
Tough to say as it depends on throw distance, ambient light, stage width. I’m currently reviewing some options from shehds. Chauvet Eve are the most common budget option people go with if you need ellipsoidal. Chauvet slimpar VW are a good option for small venue.
@@RylandRussell I may have confused the issue…I meant what would you recommend from Boulder, or Shehds similar to the $359 Boulder for key lights, only stationary? The Boulder store on Amazon appears to be sporting goods.
Do you turn the power off at the switch when done with show? Or, keep them on black-out fan running for a few minutes to cool the light inside? Or what do you do?
The boulders with variable temp fan we just leave on all the time. The Shehds we use a remote power off unit with remotes amzn.to/3OadBDF
Thanks for the video. I have seen your video earlier about the boulders and wanted to buy those. But I live in Sweden so the shipping cost and tax makes them expensive. But the shehds ship in Europe so they are very cheep here too so I bought two for testing in our church. What would you say regarding tilt and pan. When marking a circle I noticed the shehds shake at the edges. Is the boulders doing the same?
Awesome! I guess I haven’t noticed any “sharing at the edges” on the sheets or the boulder. Is there a point in the video you see this?
Thanks for your response. :) Yes at 4:32 in the video i think I can see the shehds doing more of a square in the ceiling but the boulders do more of a circle. That’s my experience of the shehds as well. That they tend to shake a bit when the motors change direction. :)
can we measure the CRI of the variable white boulder?
If I had a Sekonic c800 I'd gladly measure CRI, TLCI, SSI etc but alas they are $1800
In your main shot I see flicker on the walls it looks like it coming from the 2 purple ones on the stage. How do they perform with different frames rates when it comes to flicker. Thats a big deal with cheap LED lights.
Ohhhh ya the purple corners is some ollld adj pars and they do flicker.
@@RylandRussellmakes sense! Haha
Cheaper DMX fixtures may suffer Tearing (flickering or worse) with full speed DMX refresh rates (44Hz). Many consoles allow you to set the refresh speed on the universe to a lower value, as many of the cheaper fixtures can't keep up. Something to be aware of if you are struggling with a light that just doesn't seem to want to work with DMX (I've seen reviews where folks say the DMX is broken on cheap LEDs - most likely it's just the refresh rate is too high).
Love the Vid! Do you think the white wash version of these would work as the only front light for a smaller platform for a mobile church? (Coming from the side of platform)
I’d need more details to give a good answer but I do love the variable white boulder lights. We have 8 now.
@@RylandRussell Yeah I gotcha. Based on your video I'm thinking they could work 👍
I'm a worship leader trying to be a production director aswell and I'm just trying to figure out what I'm doing lol 😅
Do you happen to have the DMX chart or profile for the Boulder moving head? Great video! I think I am going to get some.

@@RylandRussell I am going to purchase some using your link. Thanks again!!
Ryland, are you using these for lighting your vocalist/speakers? Our lighting looks too blue on our live stream. I feel like we need a more amber looking light but can't find anything
Hey! We use this version of these amzn.to/3OOd8rp as it has variable white instead of RGBW. Here is a video I made about them. ua-cam.com/video/hK1iICwDbMI/v-deo.htmlsi=ZzgJ9S5eGrF8gA2v
Also, you might just have camera white balance out of whack.
I would love to get one of these which one tho would you recommend is better for i small church auditorium
I'd say either of them will work well. But don't just get one, you need at least two in my opinion. If fan noise is a concern I'd go for the Boulder as it shuts off when not in use.
Thank you, would you recommend the RGBw one for its variety or the vw one for just front light? Because I got one other non zooming moving par and I use it all the time in my worship center but I definitely wish I had 2 so I was thinking maybe this would be a good light to use as its partner.
Hey, Ryland - Quick question. The Amazon link to the Boulder light says it's a 240w fixture. Is this correct? Is there a 120w version?
Volts.
Interesting. They are definitely fine on 120 for me. They list it as variable input Input Voltage: AC90-260V 50/60Hz
@@RylandRussell Ah, I see that now, further down. Higher up, under technical details, it says 240v. Just wanted to make sure before I follow through with a purchase. Thanks for the super helpful review. A lighting designer was recommending Chauvet Pro fixtures, and like you noted, I could get a dozen Boulder or Shehds lights instead of the 2 Pro fixtures. Our designer is worried about fan noise. I'm willing to risk it, and we can always do a quick test and return them if they're too loud. Your videos have been exceptionally helpful. You have my thanks!
Hey! Would you happen to know how many of the Boulders I can power chain together safely?
Hey there, I’m not sure. We have 4 daisy chained currently.
@@RylandRussell Thats the most I would need so that helps a ton! just wanted to make sure it wasn't a fixture where the limit was 2 or something like that. Thanks!
I've used some Sheds movers before. The fan noise was so loud you wouldn't use them in a church. How are these.
In my experience they are pretty much the same as all my other movers. So if fan noise is a big consideration then these might not be for you.
Does anyone know where to get a fixture profile for these lights? Ryland, if you read these comments, I'd be interested in a booking a consult, but would like to email first to be sure a consult with you would be right for the issues we're having.
Here is the boulder if using Jands. The sheds one is available on the Jands website drive.google.com/file/d/1bnelmT-7oOMIthaOibb36391gcMBW0sy/view?usp=drivesdk
We are using an Elation Show Designer 2, will that type of file still work? @@RylandRussell
Which one is louder when the fan is on ?
I can't really tell any difference with fan on. Also the fans are not too loud on these.
I wouldn't expect any difference. They appear to be made in the same factory and probably have a lot of parts in common.
Thanks for the video, I always thought sheds was a company that was not to be trusted.
Which would you get right now?
I still use and love my boulders!
@@RylandRussell What's the best budget option for a moving head spot with a gobo and/or prism?
What lighting console do you use?
Jands Vista 3
@@RylandRussell can you make video sharing.
Martin Mac Aura (Denmark) retails I think for $5000 each unit. 😂
Sheds has UV... Kinda a big deal for some:))
why on earth is this dude in some kind of rave church?
Both junk
Glad you made this video and shared that amazing Black Friday discount !!! 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
