    This RPi QR system is probably the best solution I've found for paper backups. Looking forward to the BTC series :)

    Would love it if you made a privacy course, teaching us everything step by step. Would be down to pay if it is reasonably priced.

      Thanks for feedback. What do you consider “reasonably priced”? It would really help me understand the feasibility of project.

      @@sunknudsen you could make a few courses and charge 30-50 dollars for each course?

    Sorry for the poor advice (I hope this video isn't my fault,) I didn't realise the op wanted to store a backup for 20+ years. For that I'd consider using cassettes. Note: The UK data archive recommends to store at least two separate copies and to renew those copies every 2 to 5 years (to switch to new media etc.) They make no preference of media, yet IIRC, casestte backups last the longest.

    Such a cool video! I'm excited about the new series too. In that series, could you by any chance go into detail about how you set up the Raspberry Pi? I didn't even know you could install a screen on the Raspberry Pi. Wow

      Not sure how deep into the Raspberry Pi rabbit hole the episode will go, but I will share a lot more details. Might put together a deep dive episode... thanks for feedback. 🤓

    The best solution for data archival is LTO tape storage and that is what's actually used in the industry, even by the public cloud providers that offer cool and archive storage tiers. Just the good old tape libraries.

      For large amounts, an easy and effective option is just to buy 3+ hard drives and keep at least 2 redundant copies, with at least one in a different location to cover fire/theft.
      For windows users SyncToy is an option to update backups of folders that have been changed.
      Every year or two run some hard drive error checking software.
      If any drive starts to go bad, replace it.

    • @jimmybrad156
      @jimmybrad156 Рік тому +1

      Give each drive a label cause they all look the same! (Although internal drives should have a visible serial number.)

      You'd be lucky if your pendrive (usb flash memory stick?) lasted ten years, especially if it goes a long time without being powered.
      I just tested a Verbatim usb stick (flash memory) that I bought about 5 years ago which gave some errors, so I simply threw it away (nothing worth recovering.)
      Not to bag on Verbatim; I doubt there's much difference across the brands for these cheap off-the-shelf ones.
