I personally thought that was a nice moment they shared, especially when you remember that Himeno said earlier in the episode that both he and Kobeni felt guilty about trying to kill Denji. He even acknowledged Denji as the superior devil hunter. I just thought it was cool to see him trying to atone for his actions from the hotel incident by doing his best to be a bro, is all.
This show seems to have a running theme when it comes to perspective and the grass always being greener on the other side. A typical cliche, but they're not heavy handed and doesn't get in the way of the other theme you mentioned, of Denji always being taken advantage of. Im happy to see someone else seeing how sweet that scene actually was.

Even if there was not a legal problem it is definitely wrong behaviour by Himeno here, she is taken advantage of a young and horny kid. I found her fascinating as a character because in the one way she is cool and kind hearted but on the other hand she is messed up and full of flaws and immoral, selfish behaviour (remember she also got Aki to start smoking). Basically all of Chainsaw Mans cast are messed up, nobody is a hero, but I think Himeno really has this principle as the strongest. Interesting detail I just now noticed: See how in the flashback she is saying to her master "You are drinking too much" and he is basically saying "drinking is good loosen your screws aka. surviving devils" And now she drinks, smokes and behaves absolute irresponsible. I guess she took her masters advice to heart.
Also for people who could die at any moment it probably makes sense to live "wildly" and do crazy stuff b/c it could be their last day and doesn't make a lot of sense to worry about planning for the future.

Yeah that's it. People puke after they drink a lot, because it is a self-defense mechanism to try and get out some of the alcohol from your system. Since Himeno had been drinking a lot, obviously her vomit had lot of alcohol on it and Denji literally swallowed all of that xd

She's still the only one who's drunk. It would be better to phrase it that federal, the age of consent is not allowed to be set lower than 13. Each prefecture gets to set the age themselves.

People really need to stop treating Denji like he is the dumbest person on the world. He just doesn't have formal education and knowns very little about societal norms, but overall he is pretty clever. When you look back at it, he beats most of his enemies by outsmarting them, even though he does it in a pretty gruesome way.

Hmm I actually didn't think of it that way. Most men definitely wouldn't mind being in Denjis situation whether he's underaged or not. Hell one reactor when he was Watchung with his girl I saw was like "Yean Denji take her shirt off" while the gurl was just like "boo stop." While most women immediately are feeling uncomfortable with the situation and alot of them are even full on hating on Hineno because of it despite her being drunk.
Himeno is one of my favourite characters in the series. She's so relaxed yet has a lot of trauma from her past. She hates that Aki likes Makima over herself and she's venting that frustration at Denji. So her move was to take Denji from Makima. She's also drunk. Next episode, it'll clear things up a bit more.

I'm definitely not saying it is ok, but it isn't all that uncommon. In my group of high-school friends, most of them lost their virginity at 15-17 to older women in their 20s or even 30s. All it took was a fake ID and going out to a club on a Saturday. Drunk women that engage in one-night-stands are easy targets. Turns out they either don't ask, or don't care, how old the guy is. And that was here in the US.
Yeah Denjis age and general 0 experience in the world from basic things as human kindness is important for his character and how others interact. Even if he did know better with certain things he probably would just deal with it and say yes to get that affection. Here we see her use Denji basically to air out her frustrations with Aki hounding Makima like Denji does.
Original law of consent in Japan is 13, it is a very old law. Many prefectures have updated it to 16, but in Tokyo and other metro areas it is 18. But sill there are some areas, rural areas where it is still 13. So the topic of age of consent is very tricky subject in Japan. Mainly because of prostitution, getting rural young girls early has been yakuza trade for ages.
I just don't like the fact that legality is constantly being brought up for no good reason when it comes to anime: If a person is uncomfortable with the made up numbers, all they have to do is build their own head cannon with different numbers, not an issue at all.
To clarify, they don't raise the "age of consent" but rather have extra laws that make it illegal to have sex with someone 13-15 or 13-17, whereas if you have sex with someone under the age of consent it's considered rape, in that age range you are charged with "corrupting the morals of the youth" or something like that. Obviously the situation with Himeno is meant to be kind of uncomfortable but I don't think in Japan people would view it as being like sexual assault or whatever.

I like Himeno and I think she’s a dynamic character but the woman is irresponsible. 😂 I see her offering to sleep with Denji as her using him as a ‘rebound’ for her feelings towards Aki. Or to get back at Makima because she’s got Aki’s attention.
What I love about the anime/manga is that all the characters are flawed, nobody is painted as this very moral, very clean cut good person that likes to preach about what is right and what is wrong. Here we just have characters who have their own personal motivation and everyone is just trying to survive and trying to protect the people they care about
I think the problem with Himeno and Akis's relationship is that Aki doesn't look at Himeno in a romantic partner kind of way. He likes her as his close friend and his mentor. Thus making Himeno sexually frustrated and being drunk made her taking it out toward Denji.

I think it's easy to forget the world these people live in. Denji is 16 but is a Devil Hunter. Devil Hunters live short lives. To top it off, Denji is technically immortal now. Remember he already died and he's now immortal like any Devil. Short to say, his age is the least of his problems

Ok.. NOT SPOILERS. I haven't read the manga, so don't even tell me if this is anywhere close to accurate.. When Denji first met Pochita, Pochita had bullet holes in his gut. So MAYBE, Pochita just had a fight with the gun devil right before that and hurt it or almost killed it. So now, this eternity devil, which has a piece of the gun devil inside of it, is trying to kill the chainsaw devil for the gun devil. This is just an idea that popped into my head. I generally don't try to figure stories out as I am watching because I just want to be wrapped up in the story. And this kind of seems a little bit too predictable for this anime so I'm not all that confident it's accurate. But again, I don't want to know if I'm right or not. I'll just let the story play out and find out that way.
I don’t think Himeno is even trying to manipulate Denji like that, she just wants something Makima has because Makima has this weird hold over everybody else (especially Aki, which she even brings up) and she doesn’t like it. Common misconception by Americans that "most places" outside the States also have age of consent as 18. In fact, they don't. Or at least, it's only true if you decide that the world doesn't include the whole of Europe, Russia and China, where age of consent is 16 or under. And this age isn't considered just a "technicality". Nobody would raise an eyebrow at a 16 year old in Europe deciding to have sex with a partner of their choice. Geography makes a big difference to moral judgments. Don't assume that your judgments are shared by everyone.

It would be better to phrase it that federal, the age of consent is not allowed to be set lower than 13. Each prefecture gets to set the age themselves.
And in Tokyo, it is actually 18, making Denji underage. It's something that even Himeno realizes, once she sobers up.

People really need to stop treating Denji like he is the dumbest person on the world. He just doesn't have formal education and knowns very little about societal norms, but overall he is pretty clever. When you look back at it, he beats most of his enemies by outsmarting them, even though he does it in a pretty gruesome way.

Himeno is one of my favourite characters in the series. She's so relaxed yet has a lot of trauma from her past. She hates that Aki likes Makima over herself and she's venting that frustration at Denji. So her move was to take Denji from Makima. She's also drunk. Next episode, it'll clear things up a bit more.

I'm definitely not saying it is ok, but it isn't all that uncommon. In my group of high-school friends, most of them lost their virginity at 15-17 to older women in their 20s or even 30s. All it took was a fake ID and going out to a club on a Saturday. Drunk women that engage in one-night-stands are easy targets. Turns out they either don't ask, or don't care, how old the guy is. And that was here in the US.

Yeah Denjis age and general 0 experience in the world from basic things as human kindness is important for his character and how others interact. Even if he did know better with certain things he probably would just deal with it and say yes to get that affection.
Here we see her use Denji basically to air out her frustrations with Aki hounding Makima like Denji does.
Original law of consent in Japan is 13, it is a very old law. Many prefectures have updated it to 16, but in Tokyo and other metro areas it is 18. But sill there are some areas, rural areas where it is still 13. So the topic of age of consent is very tricky subject in Japan. Mainly because of prostitution, getting rural young girls early has been yakuza trade for ages.
Also, this takes place in 1997 and it an alternative version of it.
I just don't like the fact that legality is constantly being brought up for no good reason when it comes to anime: If a person is uncomfortable with the made up numbers, all they have to do is build their own head cannon with different numbers, not an issue at all.
To clarify, they don't raise the "age of consent" but rather have extra laws that make it illegal to have sex with someone 13-15 or 13-17, whereas if you have sex with someone under the age of consent it's considered rape, in that age range you are charged with "corrupting the morals of the youth" or something like that. Obviously the situation with Himeno is meant to be kind of uncomfortable but I don't think in Japan people would view it as being like sexual assault or whatever.

What I love about the anime/manga is that all the characters are flawed, nobody is painted as this very moral, very clean cut good person that likes to preach about what is right and what is wrong. Here we just have characters who have their own personal motivation and everyone is just trying to survive and trying to protect the people they care about
I think the problem with Himeno and Akis's relationship is that Aki doesn't look at Himeno in a romantic partner kind of way. He likes her as his close friend and his mentor. Thus making Himeno sexually frustrated and being drunk made her taking it out toward Denji.

I haven't read the manga, so don't even tell me if this is anywhere close to accurate..
When Denji first met Pochita, Pochita had bullet holes in his gut. So MAYBE, Pochita just had a fight with the gun devil right before that and hurt it or almost killed it. So now, this eternity devil, which has a piece of the gun devil inside of it, is trying to kill the chainsaw devil for the gun devil.
This is just an idea that popped into my head. I generally don't try to figure stories out as I am watching because I just want to be wrapped up in the story. And this kind of seems a little bit too predictable for this anime so I'm not all that confident it's accurate.
But again, I don't want to know if I'm right or not. I'll just let the story play out and find out that way.

I don’t think Himeno is even trying to manipulate Denji like that, she just wants something Makima has because Makima has this weird hold over everybody else (especially Aki, which she even brings up) and she doesn’t like it. She’s using Denji for selfish jealousy reasons sure, but it’s pretty obvious her goal isn’t to literally groom Denji.

Common misconception by Americans that "most places" outside the States also have age of consent as 18. In fact, they don't. Or at least, it's only true if you decide that the world doesn't include the whole of Europe, Russia and China, where age of consent is 16 or under. And this age isn't considered just a "technicality". Nobody would raise an eyebrow at a 16 year old in Europe deciding to have sex with a partner of their choice.
Geography makes a big difference to moral judgments. Don't assume that your judgments are shared by everyone.

Yeah, this is grooming. Japan has a minimum consent age of 16 but in most of Japan teens are protected against grooming with other laws in place, so... not the worst thing that has happened (I mean, Makima is also grooming him) or will happen (haven't read the manga but I'm sure of this) to him, but still another awful situation he is unfortunately a victim of.
The age of consent is a little bit different in Japan, but this is still supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. Himeno is frustrated from Aki always doing stuff for Makima, and now Denji is doing stuff for Makima too. In her drunken state, she's using Denji to vent her frustrations.

Everyone gets weirded out because he is 16...I mean I get it but we have to put it in context. They are making him risk his life and if he disagrees and leaves they will kill him themselves. I think in comparison the other stuff is pretty trivial. It's like watching a "child" soldier and then worrying about older women having sexual relationships with him. It's not really a top concern imo. I am more worried about him being forced to be a "child" soldier.
