The Hellblade II Metacritic score is around what I expected. I really hope the game gets a lot of players because they certainly put the work in.

@@andrewjazdzyk1215You guys say this everytime Xbox releases a mid game. How about ask for better? So they actually are around in 10 years instead of shutting it all down because their mid content isnt helping business grow enough for MS to be satisfied with. Whats the point of acquiring AAA studios if games are not that much better. Hellblade had a better story than 2.

@ryuhayabusa3302 I'm not going to ask for better? I played it without engaging with the internet and I genuinely thought it was a masterpiece, only to come on the internet and find fake outrage over length or lack of constant dopamine or whatever. This is a legit genre of game that has been around for a long long time and people are weirdly judging it on the basis of something it is not trying to do

LOL at Hellblade II with 81 on MetaCritic, but Paper Mario remake gets 89? Also Braid remake gets 88? Come on critics. Get over your biases. Stop encouraging remakes of games that don't need remakes.

Yeah after playing it my personal thought was, "masterpiece."
And then I went online and people were nitpicking it for things it's not trying to do and I'm like- idk. I'm not convinced that it wouldn't at least be high 80s if it was on Playstation

@@andrewjazdzyk1215 This is my biggest problem. The complaints I saw for Hellblade were asine. Like they were deliberately fishing. One review called it a miss because the combat wasn't God of War (2018 & Ragnorak). Like WTF?! I'll be the first to admit Hellblade 2 wasn't for me. But I looked at the marketing material and went in to try it knowing that. They never acted like combat was a big draw or there'd be drastic changes from the first game aside from what they wanted to focus on. The game is an experience centered around story, psychosis, and character writing and everything I've seen is literally like "It nailed everything it was trying to do, but I'm frustrated it's not a fundamentally different game." (never mind most of that stuff wasn't focused on because it'd take away from the experience it was going for).
The industry is holding itself back so much with this platform tribalism and these biases, but honestly beyond that I think the real problem is the gatekeeping of what a video game is. We see this constantly. People have a very rigid and stubborn idea of what a video game has to be and ignore the fact it's first and foremost an artform. It reminds me of speculative fiction (science fiction) being automatically seen as lesser in the literature community (I think it still is to an extent) because it didn't fit the confirmative normative views of what writing is. The same for new forms of music like rock and rap as they came up. Now we're seeing it with game journalists and word of mouth holding back the idea of what gaming can be and the stories it can tell and how it can tell them.

Check out the outlets who gave Hellblade 2 a low score and then read their original reviews for Hellblade 1. It’s hilarious how much of a 180 many of those reviewers made on a series that improves in nearly every way over its debut offering.
This isn’t an endorsement for Hellblade 2 but rather me pointing out frauds.

I mean factually it's the first generative AI feature that isn't as it is only allowed to occur locally using an NPU and your hardware. Personally I'm not looking forward to AI features on general, but considering everything else has relied on sending your information to the cloud recall and other on board AI features are going to be the first that aren't complete security nightmares. It kinda frustrates me because the smoke is definitely distracting from the real fire. People being more okay with generative AI chats and etc (and you may not be but a lot of people are right now) that ONLY work by sending information to cloud servers Vs the first hints of local AI hardware that in theory and promises to MS never sends anything outside your PC is worrisome. This is typically the type of distraction work you see that allows companies to get away with their most scummy practices.

Microsoft has several ways they can play this to screw sony.
    1. not sell it on prior gen ps4/xbox one, they lose a ton of sales but sony takes a massive hit losing 50% of the revenue from that prior gen, current gen sales up for both and prob more GP subs
    2. not sell on prior gen hardware and say gamepass subs can still play on their xbone via GP and cloud (not ideal but may drive subs)
    3. put it on prior gen and keep those users from sony on that system and prevent them from having to upgrade, incentivize people to buy a SS bundle or SX

I wouldn't be surprised if the next Xbox console(s) will be ARM based, it would make sense, as MS would have more control over the chip design plus they can pack in a NPU.

I genuinely hope Microsoft can push native gaming on ARM. That'd be fantastic for my handheld needs and could potentially shift the industry into hopefully being accessible to more types of hardware.
Hellblade is kinda frustrating. I feel like the industry is being held back by gatekeeping (and partly tribalism). The complaints I've seen have all been toward features that were clearly not in the focus in the first game and marketing made clear they didn't want to focus on in future. I'll admit the game isn't for me and probably not a lot of people. But so are a lot of games. I'm a firm believer that video games should be judged on what they are Vs what they are TRYING to be. Not for not catering to me specifically. Hellblade was never trying to be God of War for crying out loud. Heck, I don't think it's trying to be like anything else out there. It's a unique experience in gaming and one that's trying to push the very idea of what a video game is. The push back I see is remencient of stuff like people judging animation as a worse medium because it's automatically childish or the god awful gatekeeping within literature that held back speculative fiction (Sci fi) for eons and continues to stubbornly strangle some perceptions.

Feel like NPU is something that won't age well. Whatever they ship now will support the most basic AI. Microsoft just trying to offload the processing/cost from their data centers (expensive) to the consumer. In a couple years, AI will be well beyond the capability of these basic NPUs.

  • @tstager1978

There's no doubt in my mind that MS would buy Valve and Steam without hesitation IF they were ever willing to sell. MS needs Steam to ever become relevant in the PC gaming space and it would also secure the future of Xbox consoles and remove any doubt about third-party support as they would turn into PC/SteamMachines. I am sure the entire Xbox brand would just be rebranded into Steam as well if this were to ever happen.

The day Xbox becomes a full fledged PC and not a console. That is when MP will die on that device. PC MP is rampant with cheaters. What i see them doing is adding a slimmed down PC mode to the Xbox. PC HW configurations are inefficient compared to console specs.

    • @akhawi4108

@@bosskey23 Lol, no. I'm a PC gamer and cheaters in MP games are nowhere near "rampant" nowadays and they're actually quite rare, at least in any popular games. Cheat detection has been very good for more than a decade and bans happen quickly.

I really wonder if they will require any pc using the new copilot features to have a physical npu... they imply as much but it's such a terrible idea, even fairly weak gpus will crush the 45 Tops number, (albeit perhaps at higher power) and also it seems crazy to lock out basically all existing pc users
