I enjoyed that cemetery visit. When you read off Susan Young's name, I had to look at my genealogy page to see if she was an ancestor, but I don't have her listed (as of yet). I really do enjoy seeing the old headstones. Wish I could find a place in north Texas that would make the old style headstones, I would get one for myself. Thanks for taking us along... Stay safe!

While teaching my son to drive, on old country roads, we found this cemetery. We got out and looked around. A very peaceful feeling there. We both really liked it.
When my son passed, it felt very appropriate that he be laid to rest there.

Thanks. This is the old red hill cemetery. When I was in school this cemetery was kinda abandoned. Although it was mowed in the summers. With all the people moving there, they have expanded.The pipe fence was around it back then. There are probably a lot of unmarked graves. Was probably established shortly after the run of 1889. It was a popular spot for the kids in the 60s. But there was never any disrespect or destruction back then. Back then on the east border there was a caved in grave with a marker that said something to the effect…. Look at me and you will see, as I am now you soon shall be. It was on the Weidemann farm. Where the south Canadian river is to the south was the border for the land run. Across the river south should be the the old settlement of silver city in the Chickasaw nation. It’s also real close to the Chisholm trail. Thanks for the visit.
That is all very interesting. There is an antique store in Piedmont that Sarah and I go in a couple times a year. Up high in the back is a photo or document, I can't remember exactly, about the same family you mentioned on that ranch. Well may not be the exact family but with that name and in the area sort of it does make me wonder if they were related. They owned whatever that store was originally. Thank you for watching and sharing a little more about this cemetery and area.
I could be wrong but I suspect all those markers were pushed over by cattle. Cows are exceptionally lazy creatures and they like to lean on stuff quite often... but they also LOVE to rub their hindquarters on things (trees, bushes, fence posts, and - apparently - cemetery markers) to scratch all the itchy fly-bites. After so many markers were pushed over, the caretakers probably put that railing-fence up to keep them from doing further damage.

I do think it was probably cattle some how. They are generally lazy and love to lean on things not realizing it will break. My guess for the fence was cattle as well but I don't under stand the low lying bars. I know they could go over those. Perhaps they shortened it after the cattle was no longer an issue. I don't remember if I've already told you this or not but there's a cemetery in Poplar Bluff MO named after my ancestors that several of my family members are buried at. Dunning Cemetery. My brother, dad, paternal grandparents and my aunt are all buried there. All surname Dunning.

Poplar Bluff. My grandparents moved to CA in the dust bowl and now we are in Indiana.
@@RhettyforHistory Theres also an old Cemetery in the town where I grew up. Naylor MO has an old Cemetery called Barfield Cemetery. It's hidden by weeds but it's still there. Naylor's around 30 miles from Poplar Bluff.

That is a very old Cemetery for Oklahoma. It is a shame that so many of the tall two or three piece markers are not still standing like they should be. Many of the ornate tops are not even in the cemetery. I believe the steel rod through the stones was a flawed idea from the start. The idea was doomed to fail because of the speed of rust and corrosion and the frequency of the ground becoming unlevel around the graves. I have read of old broken abandoned head stones being used to shore up washed out bridges and roads by local people. Most of what I read about happened in the nineteenth century. However one wonders where the tops to those markers went. There were some very interesting markers in the new part of the cemetery. Some of those resembled modern sculptures. You were right about the high amount of young people in that cemetery.
I went to the Heritage Museum in Anadarko yesterday only to find it closed. The sign on the door said they were temporarily closed until they got another curator. I wasn't aware the last curator had left. I am sure they have remodeled and added to the museum since I was there. They had artifacts found in the field East of Riverside Indian School. There was two black powder cap and ball pistols that were found by a farmer in the field. One pistol had the hammer cocked and the cylinder was fully loaded. I.would love to know the story on that one. I have been busy this week but I still have a few avenues to explore.
You're right about those metal rods sometimes corroding the marker but on some occasions it does save them. Either way it is sad that there are so many missing and damaged markers in this cemetery.
I hope they get a new curator in that museum soon. Maybe it will be someone with so connections in the community. Thank you for watching and telling me about that.
Hello, I'm from Mustang and I graduated in 1995, this Cemetery is also known as Red Hill Cemetery, a lot has changed in that cemetery. Last time I was there was in 1993, and none of those metal fences were there and 104th Street was gravel not paved. The old part that has the low metal fence around it was where the original barbed wire fence was. This cemetery was neglected for years, none of the newly added grave stones and part of the cemetery was not there. That big Tree has been there for years even when we went there back in high school, we would do grave rubbings with charcoal onto paper of the gravestones. Weeds mainly covered the grounds, none of those other trees were not there either. Also there were a lot more older gravestones in the older part than now. There was a set of twins that had passed away and they weren't even but a few days old. I noticed that that gravestone is no longer there either. I looked up the history after watching your video, the last names of those twin babies were Smith one was a girl and the other twin was a boy. There date of birth and deaths are unknown now simply due to their gravestone missing. This cemetery did not look like this at all in 1993. In fact no one had been buried there in over 60 years until 2002. It had been ignored and neglected, not ever maintained and taken care of until 2002. I wish I would've taken pics of it back in 1993 also that Cemetery is Haunted. Yup sure is, there have been sightings and shadowy figures seen that is also why we went out there in 1993 to do some investigating. I wish I would've taken pics so you could've seen what cit originally looked like.

There's a very interesting Cemetery near there at the site of Fort Reno(across the road from the El Reno Federal Prison). It was also a POW Camp during WWII and, when I visited it, had some interesting POW graves.
You're right. There is a lot of history on those grounds. Lately it has been in the hot seat as some of the buildings have been torn down.

It's been a while since I was there, but the old fort graveyard has some interesting stones. Back in the 70's, I was living in Bethany and going to College in Edmond.
Rumor had it that Nixon was going to use the site for a place to keep anti-war protesters. I had to have a look. Didn't find anything but learned some interesting History.
I haven't heard anything about the protestors like that but that is interesting. I've been there a lot over the years. I just need to make a video on the cemetery and the buildings. They pretty well closed everything up out there. Museum has been closed and no activities allowed. That pretty well forced the museum curator to leave. I've heard from some that the access to the cemetery has been limited. Makes me wish I would have done something years ago. I've been trying to contact people of interest to help save it but I know it is a slow process. But calling U.S. Senators, Congressmen as well as the state Congressmen. But it really is on the federal level. The Cheyenne and Arapaho have also been getting involved in it.

Yes. The USDA owns it and they are the ones who have been tearing down some historic structures. That's been stopped as far as I know but it's difficult to tell since they aren't letting anyone out there.
Wonder if the wind and possible soil issues have caused those headstones to fall over. I really enjoy your videos.
It could be but I am really not sure. It would take someone from the area giving us some additional information. I have to say the soil did not feel soft and wind is all over this state and many areas worse than this area. I'm thinking some sort of vandalism in the past. Thank you for watching.

Yes it is. A lot of times the new ones don't get them. This cemetery had quite a few temporary funeral home markers. Maybe they were delayed because of the pandemic.

What a shame on wylie tabor he can be traced back to Kentucky..after that it his great grandparents just say USA..ugh,,I will have to dig deeper..but he's not mentioned in my Tabor genealogy,,, I am a direct descendant of The Tabors And the Mayflower descendants...hmm very interesting find,,,I will look into him further...i am now at findagrave,,,a beautiful cemetery...still no information on them,,,I do enjoy your videos thank you
