My favorite song of his is The Dance. And there is a reason for that. While its actually a song about a break up, the words fit perfectly with the life I had with my husband. He became disabled halfway through our marriage of 32 years. I became his caregiver (and would gladly do it again 100 times over) and cared for him up until the day he died. Towards the end it became more and more painful for me to watch this once proud Marine deteriorate to a former shell of himself. To me "the dance" was our time on earth together right up until the very last day. I could have left him right after he became disabled and "missed the pain". But he was my husband and my best friend. And you just dont walk away from something like that.

Oregon WAnderer. I understand completely because my husband was diagnosed with cancer 6 months after our marriage. We were married for only 7 years. Our marriage was filled with doctors, constant doctor visits, medications, hospital stays, and him deteriorating right in front of me till he eventually died at age 30. But it was also filled with great memories of romance, love, travel, and passion that sustain me to this day. I never thought about leaving him and jumping ship. You take your vows seriously when you take them. They are words of fodder! I don't regret marrying my husband. And I consider myself blessed that I was there when he died with his eyes wide open looking at me! We said everything to each other and I don't live with "Would have's, Could have's, or Should have's". We didn't spend precious time arguing. We just created wonderful memories because it is the memories that sustain you in life! ♥ My husband has been deceased now for 28 years.

Awesome job on Yukon Cemetery in Yukon, OK.; future grave of Garth Brooks!
Back when RhettyforFun (our friend) had done his tribute on the Brooks family, I had talked with Garth on the phone just a few days afterwards and I told him about Rhetty doing a very nice video on the family plot and I haven't seen Garth in person to go ahead and show him the video that Rhetty done either. Yes, Garth and I have been friends for many of years, in fact, we've been friends since the 1960's and we both attended Oklahoma State Univ. (OSU) back in the 1980's at the same time for a couple of years. My Grandparents and my father were friends of the Brooks family back in the 1930's and remained friends until Mr. Brooks, Sr. and Mr. Brooks, Jr. death. Mr. Brooks attended my father's funeral back in 2002. Once in a while I will hear from Garth and when he has done concerts here in Tulsa or close enough drive from Tulsa, I always get VIP/backstage passes to the concert. Garth had a fairly good size ranch northeast of Owasso and he built a home for his ex-wife (Sandy) on the property and a home for him on the property, so he would close to his girls (children). I'm not sure if he has sold that property since he's married to Trish and the girls are grown, but I know he's moved back around Nashville. When we do visit on the phone or see each other in person, I never ask him any personal questions about his life/business; we just visit and talk about the great ole days and how things are going with each other. I remember when his mother got sick with that awful throat cancer and finally lost her battle. I attended her funeral and after the graveside service; I got my butt chewed out by Garth for being there and being back in Tulsa, because my father was ill and battling kidney failure. That was one time I was really afraid that I was going to get butt kicked clean up between my shoulders (LOL) but I exampled to Garth that my father was in the hospital and mom was at the hospital visiting and nothing I do for dad anyway and that my parents wanted me to attend on their behalf too. Garth and Mr. Brooks was very sad about my father's illness as well, but was happy that I was able to attend and honor the family too.
Garth is 2 months old than me too! Garth was born here in Tulsa. Mr. Brooks and my grandfather were both in the oil industry with the same oil company, Mr. Brooks was a draftsman and my grandfather was a supervisor in the welding department. The Brooks moved to Yukon a few months after Garth's birth and both family remained friends and keep in touch over the years.
The Smittle's buried in the Brooks plots are Mrs. Troyal "Ray" Brooks wife, Colleen children from her 1st marriage. Jerome Smittle's grave with the badge on his marker. He was a deputy Sheriff in Tulsa. Jerome "Jerry" was very well known here in Tulsa and he had problems with Diabetes.

When my husband and I pass away we will be buried next to our youngest son who left us on March 29th, 2019, three months shy of his 30th birthday. My husband will lie on his right side and I on his left. We live in Houston, TX and our 3 surviving children live in Mesa, AZ. I always said that I wanted to be buried close to my parents at Mesa City Cemetery but all the plots have been sold. When our son passed I chose Mountain View Cemetery in east Mesa to arrange his funeral. He was transferred from the hospital and stayed there for the viewing, then took him to church service’s and back to be interred. I had two wonderful and caring directors guiding our family in what was an unexpected death. I’ve enjoyed watching your UA-cam videos, keep up the good work and take care.

Connie El Abridi my deepest condolences to you and your families. In May of 1996 my brother had 2 daughters that died as a result of a motor vehicle accident, they were 12 and 11 years old and were his only children the older daughter died instantly at the scene and the younger daughter died the following morning, all this from a drunk driver, my nieces weren’t the only ones killed he had 2 female passengers in his vehicle one died from her injuries and the other one passed a year after the accident and all he got was 7 years in prison. When my son passed away my brother who lost his girls took it really hard and said to me that it shattered his heart into a million pieces because he didn’t me to feel the loss of my child the same way that he did and life wasn’t fair. I’m thankful that my son didn’t pass from a car accident but from cancer. The loss is still the same, you never get over it.

Sylvia Moreno My Condolences Sylvia to you & your brothers family , reading that just broke my heart . When I was 2 years old my oldest & only sister was killed in a car crash , she was 8 , bunch of drugged up losers . She was the only one in the car that passed , but my aunt & little cousins all had physical issues the rest of their lives . They let the druggies go on their way 😡they have to answer to a higher power. My mother never got over the loss of my sister , she struggled., but carried on for the rest of us kids . My only son found that he had testicular cancer at the age of 18 . Luckily it was found early enough , had surgery & treatments ( radiation) . So far all his tests have come back clean 🙏🏻. But it’s a constant worry for me always . He has 3 children ( my grandchildren) I Love ❤️ them all, with my daughters children, I have 9 Grands in total & 3 Great Grands ☺️

Hi Steve. I have visited the memorial in OK City and it is a beautiful and impressive memorial. I really like the way they honored the victims of that horrible day with the chair-like memorials. The reflection pool is also very impressive. I have a final resting place in a quiet little country church cemetery where my wife's family is buried. Her 3rd great grandfather was a founding member of the little church and our sites are just a few feet from his. He is the oldest grave there and he was buried in 1850. So many people are choosing cremation now. I just can't handle that thought so I'm doing it the old fashioned way. Thanks again for another interesting video. I loved your comment about your walking in the cemetery to get to know your neighbors. Very cool thought!

You will see many OKC bombing memorials around the State and across the nation even. Many of them have elm trees that were grown from seeds from the survivor tree that you saw at the OKC Bombing Memorial. Looks like you have a great little spot near your Grandparents. I hope you were also able to see your Grandparents in Oklahoma.

Country music was grandpas country music before Garth hit the radio and changed it forever 30 years ago. He became an icon seemingly overnight.
He was the king of country in the 90s and still on top today. His show in Eugene Oregon was off the chain. The Dead and so many others have rocked Autzen Stadium but Garth absolutely mesmerized the crowd.
When legends are mentioned Garth will always be in there with Cash, Merle, The Possum, Willie, Waylon and so on.

When I finally pass, I'll be buried in a small rural cemetery on the Ohio/Indiana border, where a number of my maternal grandmother's family is buried. In fact, when I am buried there, I'll be the sixth in a direct line of descent laid to rest here. It starts with my 3rd great grandfather and grandmother (immigrants from Schwindratzheim, Alsace, France) and goes directly down through their son, their grandson, their great granddaughter, their 2nd great granddaughter, and, finally, their 3rd great granddaughter, me. Can you see that I am passionate about family history?

Like you, I have my final resting place ready to go. Following my GrandDad's death in 1980, when I was 14 year old, my parents decided they wanted to be prepared in the event something happens to them. At the time, they were in their late 30s. They selected crypts in a beautiful mausoleum at the cemetery where my grandparents had been interred. We could've never realized at the time, that my dad would be placed in his just 11 years later when death claimed him due to non-Hodgkins lymphoma at the age of 51. My name is on my crypt with my birth year. People used to ask if it creeped me out going to visit my dad's tomb and seeing my name on a crypt. No, it never bothered me.

I’ve already got my final resting place. A very small cemetery in Linesville Pennsylvania right next to my parents. One of my dads best gifts he gave me before he past. I have quite a few family members laid to rest in that cemetery and happy to be resting with them through eternity. I hope this didn’t sound too morbid but I have had more then 1 near death experience with the most resent being a liver transplant in 2006. It put my mind a little more at ease knowing that one less thing to worry about when it comes time.

Steve ... GREETINGS from beautiful Troy, Ohio USA. I love Garth Brooks. I have 2 favorite songs by him. Like you, One of my top favorites is "If Tomorrow Never Comes". My Other top favorite is "The Thunder Rolls". My immediate relatives are divided up in 4 cemeteries around the county I live in. I still do my best to see that the graves always have some kind of decoration on them. When my end comes, I will be going to one of the local medical schools, and after will be cremated and my ashes will be returned to my family if anyone so desires, otherwise, they will be interred in a special memorial area of the school.
This was a really fantastic video, really enjoyed it. Thanks Steve.

all of your work on these vlogs are interesting but this one reached out to me. So you asked about our gravesites and future gravesites. I have not one but two. Our RIGGS family plot is back in Rochester, NY where I was born in 1950. It is a beautiful huge cemetery with fountains and all. Mom Dad and my grandparents are all there along with my brother. However the love of my life and life partner Patricia in buried near our long time home on the Oregon Coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean we so loved. I will be joining her in the so long. So for the one in New York I'll hang a "vacancy " sign. lol

My baby brother and sister were buried in the mid sixties as infants in separate coffins in the same grave. My mother was cremated and ashes layed just behind the grave. Just recently I lost my dad on 4th July and he was cremated and buried next to my mom's ashes. I guess I'll have to join them when I die to be cremated and reunited with the family. Garth’s sister, Betsy passed away November, 4 2013 here in Oklahoma, not sure why they haven’t put the date on her headstone. Yes, the Yukon cemetery is big and there is a lot more land then what you saw, it wines round in behind the post office that you pasted on Garth Brooks Boulevard. Fun fact the Yukon middle school that is across the street from the cemetery was the high up to about 4 years ago and that is where Garth spent his high school days. It’s hard for me to pick just one song of his I with you I love If Tomorrow Never Comes but if I had to pick one it would be “The Dance”. Hope you enjoyed your time here in Oklahoma, Steve.

They bought 4 and my husband's parents bought the other four. Of course now my in-laws want to be cremated. We can put 4 to a plot there, so we may look into selling to some extended family members if they want to join the neighborhood. xoxo
