  • In this video I'm photographing water birds from a floating hide in Slovenia, part of a trip with www.fotonatur.si I'm using the brilliantly designed Mr Jan Gear Floating Hide. This really is the best way to photograph water birds! Watch both my photo sessions as I take you into my watery office.. A big thank you to Jure Novak for helping me with the floating hide - and taking the extra pictures! You can watch the rest of my photography trip to Slovenia here: • I Was Invited to Photo...

    That looks like so much fun! We can't do that here (Texas) because we have Water Moccasins, a bite from one of these pit vipers can be fatal. Great photos and a fun episode, Paul!

      Blimey, that doesn't sound good! I think there are some issues depending where you are. The water I was in was fine; in some places you can have problems with leeches. Wading around chest deep is never going to be an easy thing! Glad you enjoyed this video Liesl. Yes, it was fun!

    The things a person will do to get a great shot. Brilliant pictures Paul. I'm living in the USA nowadays so walking in water here can be a problem sometimes. But I have been known to get on the edge of a pond with a green tarp covering me lol. Love to see your adventures and sometimes your misadventures. Funny. Ty for sharing.

    After not being able to play golf any more, or go on to Ewood Park this is right at the top of my resentment list for not being able to do. I know most people will say not being able to watch Rovers is a blessing but not being able to use one of these rafts certainly isn’t. It just looks so much fun and to be part of the environment as opposed trying to 'blend it' must be a totally different experience.
    A great video with great images Paul, thank you.

    • @PaulMiguelPhotography
      @PaulMiguelPhotography  4 роки тому +1

      You hit the nail on the head being 'part of the environment'. The photography is fun, but you really feel part of their world - which you pretty much are! A great perspective for sure.

    The egret shot was cracking, that looks like a lot of fun but I'd be worried about all my gear for a swim. At least there are no shopping trolleys and old tyres to navigate around. 😀

    👍Super vid and images, Paul, especially the grebes. Don’t see many YT posts where photog uses an angle finder. Would a remote cam control app on a tablet be practical? Imagine one has to have a good bladder to take on such a session😁.

    • @PaulMiguelPhotography
      @PaulMiguelPhotography  4 роки тому +1

      This is only usually for around 2 hours, so not so bad. I'm not sure about remote control - guess it's possible

    • @cango5679
      @cango5679 Рік тому

      I shoot in a normal way as in any hide. A table would not be practical at all, I think, but depends on how deep the water. I use a dry suite and a pee valve, since my bladder is quite small ;-) .

    • @PaulMiguelPhotography

      Hi Brandon. The more you crop the worse the image will become. Do whatever you can do get closer (without disturbing the bird)

  • @willparsons32

    quite common to have such a floating camo hut nowadays but I would almost consider buying a kids pop tent in camo colours (like the one you have) and a rubber dingy to save your knees.. How to maneuver it? Hmm.. good question!!

    • @PaulMiguelPhotography
      @PaulMiguelPhotography  4 роки тому

  • @fusion-music
    @fusion-music 4 роки тому

    Beautiful results. Shame you missed the crocodile though. I think a slight modification can be made to avoid the camera taking a drink. You have some valuable footage there. Keep it safe and with a record of it.

  • @geographerix7104
    @geographerix7104 4 роки тому +2

    Your images are really good. Getting close to the subject is the key to stunning images and these floating hides are an interesting approach. But you basically walk around a lake/pond without knowing or seeing on what you are placing your feet. So it can be potenially harmful or disturbing to the underwaterworld (fisheggs, waterplants, insect larvae).

    • @PaulMiguelPhotography
      @PaulMiguelPhotography  4 роки тому

      This is a very fair point and it is something that occurred to me too. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    • @PaulMiguelPhotography
      @PaulMiguelPhotography  3 роки тому +1

      Not on this one as I remember. There are newer versions that do have a mount.

    • @cango5679
      @cango5679 Рік тому

      Mine came with a hole and a screw for a ballhead/etc. And mine looks like the one in the video above. You would prefer the cam sitting tight on a ballhead/etc and not loose on a bean bag - at least if you move around a bit.
