Stare at the plastic engine cover. Haha
"Where's the plug!!"

Ah yes good... engine is still there

Or the dealerships for new cars.
It's no good their looking under the bonnet for the cause of the problem, it's the nut holding the steering wheel that was at fault.
It's the confident "Open the bonnet" followed by the blank look of "OK now what ? There's an air intake somewhere, anyone know where ? And this big lump in the middle going CLOCK CLONK CLONCK, what's that again ?"
Brilliant!
yurp, its true👍🤣

Meanwhile the local tow truck recovery guy regularly holidays in Barbados courtesy of these plums…😂
As a mechanic it would bring me immense joy to stand there and explain exactly how they have totally destroyed their engines through their own stupidity
I rather suspect that their level of mechanical ignorance would prevent their understanding the cause and significance of a hydraulic lock on their engine's internals.
Is a hydro-locked engine almost always a write-off?
@@OFFtheCHIZANE The effect of pistons coming to a dead stop in milliseconds from several hundred or thousands of RPM, as they try to compress the incompressible, throws enormous stresses onto the connecting rods as they try to absorb the kinetic energy stored in the crankshaft, flywheel and transmission, not to mention inertia of a ton and a half or more of vehicle and passengers, resulting in their being bent or broken. Broken rods most likely will mean engine block write-off, crankshaft damage etc.
I know in Muppet Show is made in America but is this where all the Muppets come from?
@@mrwhiteinca Actually, I think you will find that a lot of The Muppet Show was filmed in the UK at ATV Elstree Studios.
Hilarious seeing them open the bonnet. If they knew how it worked they wouldn't drive through the water
It stuns me that fully grown men do this, maybe when I was 17 or 18 I might have been that silly. I literally don't get any of these people
But by God there are plenty of idiots! Keep them coming !!!!! Gold

A hydrofantabulous episode, thank you :)
0:38 The Mini might have just been OK had he not tried to start it......too late now!
Yeah, sounded like it only gulped a little water judging by the steam, then had a bunch left over in the intake. Had he let it dry, sprayed some water dispersant on the spark plugs. Hed have driven home
I think the car tried to restart itself the first time, going by how quickly it started cranking. But had he not tried a second time, it may have been OK.

It's that awful sound of hydro-lock that makes me smile, just thinking of how those appalling smart-arse drivers will react when they get the huge bill and the letter from the insurance letting them know they're on their own...
You don't think insurers check on UA-cam first if they get a possible hydrolocked engine that occurs in this area ? Yeah, he actually drove through slowly, we'll honour their cover.
Oh wait, he washed the water up over the car roof . . . on your own boy.
I think they can afford it, otherwise ppl would not drive there.
Yeh isn't it awesome to laugh at other people's misfortune? /s
I'm fairly certain the insurers will pay on a fully comprehensive policy (you've had it on Third Party Fire & Theft of course - but who has that any more)- in the same way as if you damage any other aspect of your car by your own accident, with no-one else involved. However, having 'got away' - if you do - with the potential thousands of costs on engine repairs/replacement - or whole car written off, the financial 'damage' is longer term and a bit gut wrenching for your stupidity in trying to make your car or van a boat!. Loss of a 'life' on protected no claims bonus - or - loss of no claims bonus if it's not protected (ouch - very expensive at renewal) - and in event of either of foregoing, you have to declare the claim and the amount paid on trying to get alternative quotes at renewal - more pain and expense that will haunt you for some years!

Ooh that mini restarting sounded terminal 🤣
You are the best. Thanks for posting these videos. I love the Fails the best!
The main problem, apart from the nut holding the steering wheel, is that most cars now have intake ducts that are positioned in the daftest of places, usually very low at the front of the car. Older cars with a good old fasioned air cleaner on top of a carburettor picked up the air from the top of the engine bay hence keeping a good bow wave helped keep the air intake out the water. Any car I have I remove the ducting so the intake is higher in the engine bay or reroute it to a higher position.
But now your sucking in hot air from inside the engine bay. Maybe the best compromise would be to keep the factory cold air intake and not drive through fords like a madman ;-)
@@SBT300 Now he's right, many modern cars are designed with no interest in your problems later, using a low air intake that can suck water from a small puddle. Especially BMW...
Just saw this. Good common sense against the planned obsolescence that seems the norm today.
Not daftest position, its called a cold air feed from the top of the open grill. These people get all they deserve. Showing off. No sympathy at all.

I'd also like to see a panel of judges sitting there awarding style and execution points on the weekend 😂
Some of these engines were not exactly all that happy sounding 😅😂😂
0:45 That engine was probably saveable before they tried to restart it...

most of that will be steam forming from water running into the tailpipe. that's why it's advised to keep speed 'down' and revs 'up.'

I was always taught to drive very slowly in, letting the water settle, build a bow wave ahead of the car and then drive moderately slowly but steadily making sure the bow wave is in front of you and water is not sloshing over the bonnet.
Or just stay out of flood water.
Funny how one thinks you could make water magically stay away from the engine bay by generating a bow wave.
If it matters how you drive then it's too deep.
You were caught to drive in water? Seems pretty stupid.
You would probably be in this video

if you introduce a non compresable liquid into a compresser something has to give. usually the con rods. I bet some of those drivers now wish that they had paid more attention in physics classes at school.

Bent rods, broken crankshafts, valves, broken valve trains, cracked pistons... whyyyy do they do it?!!!
2:15 I assume at this point the starter motor has either desplined itself/broken a shaft or there is a sacrificial cog in there, working against a solid hydrolocked engine flywheel ???
I guess so. It's starts with the promising knock at 2:01.
@@petersylvester2905 Thanks for the alternative, didnt think of that :0
The end of the starter motor will have broken off, as hes tried to start it with the engine locked. Seen it happen a few times on these
That was my guess. You can hear it the hydrolock at 2:02, not sure what other damage he did on the first restart attempt. If he's lucky the starter fail saved his engine. Unlike the mini which sounded like it threw a rod (to my uneducated ears).

judging by the amount of collected number plates, it may be fun to string a net along the bridge handrail and tie-wrap them to it. ;0)
A 21 plate Merc and some other newish metal - nuts, indeed!
I’d love to see one of those 4X4’s with the snorkel going to the roof go through that. For once, the snorkel can be used. I think it’s usually just jewelry for the SUV’s.
Should be pointing backwards though when entering large waters.
As a long-time 4WD enthusiast, it just boggles my mind that so many idiots think that hitting the water at speed is going to get them through it by momentum.
1. Start super slow, stay in a low gear to keep the revs up, then GENTLY accelerate but only to the point where you're pushing a LOW bow wave - NOT a huge splosh that comes up over the front of the vehicle. Snorkel or no snorkel - you do NOT want water sploshing up under the engine and getting into either the air intake or the electrics.
2. You're in an air-tight boat, essentially, with 4 air-inflated buoyancy devices - tyres. So if the water is, say, deep enough to cover more than half your wheel diameters, you will float off the underlying surface and lose traction to some (or all) degree. So, if there is ANY significant cross current flowing (we see this a lot in Australia with flood waters over bridges across fast-flowing rivers), you WILL get washed away sideways.
Slow entry, high revs, GENTLE bow wave, and common sense should see most vehicles through this ford safely. We cross much bigger and deeper fords than this routinely in the wet season here in tropical Australia - but we're not idiots (well, most of us, at least) and we know that slow and gentle are the keywords. Maybe the idiots in these videos are actually just trying to splash the bystanders watching and filming it all? ;)
