Unclogging Pipes, First Vehicle Of 2023 Road Inspection Part Two Of Two

  • I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

You are doing the nation a service!!!! Also marking that DEEP crevice with orange tape is fantastic! I cringed when I saw how deep that chasm was. And NO ONE before you came along even saw it. You SAVED some people's LIVES. I'm sure of it! Keep up the great work!

Seeing your setup reminds me of the years I lived in my Subaru. It was a two door Hatchback. I took out the front passenger seat so I would have room for all my stuff and my books (I was in college then), and I folded the back seat down for my sleeping space. I kept a bunch of newspapers to spread on top of my blankets at night for camouflage since I was in a dangerous area with gang wars and shootings. I could tell some stories, lol.
I don't miss the craziness of those days. I do miss the freedom of coming and going as I pleased though. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I'm looking forward to seeing your setup when you get your new truck. :-)

Aw man northern Maine. Always fun to look at the road atlas and see the mass of unpaved roads that my poor commuter car will never be able to access.
Just got a culvert just south of Bath ME flowing at all despite it having very clearly been the victim of an excavator on at least six separate occasions. I’m guessing the Maine DOT isn’t nearly as quick to respond as the NH DOT. I flagged it, and on my return trip the ribbon was gone. Interesting.

England had a cool & wet spring this year. From February to mid April it was raining pretty much every day and temperatures around +10C. In mid-May some places already look like full summer vegetation.

Where the loggers were digging up rock and loading it into trucks is called a borrow pits where they export rock to grade the the roads and sink holes, we in WA state call the rock from the borrow pit, pit run which is all sizes of round rock which it looks like that was used on those logging roads,
In Alaska it’s call permafrost as to you calling it frost heaves.
The heavy steal pipe you see crossing the road is called ductile iron which we use for are city drinking water and sometimes for shallow storm drains crossing in the roads, I believe the loggers use what ever pipe is available at the time and of course the least expensive because they know the likelihood of the pipe being damaged at some point in the winter as they grade the roads and it’s possible that’s why the pipe seems shallow because they have skimmed the road surface down with the graders over time. Where you pointed out the black plastic pipe ( N-12 ) and the road is cracking because it wasn’t compacted with a hoe-pack it was ( excavator ) bucket compacted. Most logging companies don’t own hoe-packs for their excavators or a roller or jumping Jack for compaction. Have a good day 5-18-2023

Logging in the winter is much better because the ground is Frozen and they don't have to worry about sinking into marshy areas also in the winter the roads are frozen so they can just chain up and run trucks more than twice as heavy with double-wide trailers weighing up to 200,000 pounds. Without the worry of sinking into the mud.

    Overloaded at work.
About to end a long term relationship.

Wow the flow you know as a kid my first exploring and playing alone was with ditches and water. I would play hours floating stuff down and thru culverts . Unblocking leaves and following them to where they end. I stopped doing that before 6th grade 😂 I remember mom saying don't get wet so I did it anyway ....
