    My grandpa told me a story of a solar eclipse like 38 years ago. All of the cows went back to that barn thinking that it was night.

    In Mexico there is a believe that pregnant women should wear pins on their shirt around their belly to protect the baby because they think the liquid In their belly has some kind of reaction to the eclipse that may affect the baby.

      Tell Me This is still a lunar eclipse on both sides

    • @killerfunghoul3948
      @killerfunghoul3948 7 років тому +25

      A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow). This can occur only when the sun, Earth, and moon are aligned (in "syzygy") exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can occur only the night of a full moon. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon's location relative to its orbital nodes.
      A total lunar eclipse has the direct sunlight completely blocked by the earth's shadow. The only light seen is refracted through the earth's shadow. This light looks red for the same reason that the sunset looks red, due to rayleigh scattering of the more blue light. Because of its reddish color, a total lunar eclipse is sometimes called a blood moon.
      Unlike a solar eclipse, which can be viewed only from a certain relatively small area of the world, a lunar eclipse may be viewed from anywhere on the night side of the Earth. A lunar eclipse lasts for a few hours, whereas a total solar eclipse lasts for only a few minutes at any given place, due to the smaller size of the Moon's shadow. Also unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to view without any eye protection or special precautions, as they are dimmer than the full moon.

    That was so cool! The neighbor's chickens went to roost, crickets started chirping, the neighborhood dogs went nuts, some of the birds started morning/evening songs, and it just seemed so awesomely eerie! Where we are, we had a slim fingernail of sun showing. Oh so close to totality! I am 60 now, so I truly enjoyed what may be my last solar eclipse. So happy!!!

    I lived in the path of totality in 2017. My family came down to visit, some even spending the night camping on the lawn or sleeping in the station wagon because I have a very small apartment.
    When the eclipse started, the everyone came outside, traffic on Interstate 55 stopped and we all stopped talking. When totality happened the people roared in awe, clapped and were happy.

      However in a billion years we'll never get total eclipses because of the moon pulling away from the Earth. The code has a bug that caused this, unless a new patch is released.

    I was in the path of 100% totality here in Lincoln City, Oregon (first place it made landfall) and it was the single most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life. Two minutes of pure peace, no stress, worries, anxiety NOTHING. I was overcome with this crazy feeling during it and it felt like I was inside of a dream. I would give anything to experience that again, hopefully longer then 2 minutes next time.

    I had a complete totality view for about 45 seconds on my front porch. Made a reaction video. I just realized that the shadows coming from my tree were showing those crescents! It was a beautiful sight. Yes, the temperature did drop. The eclipse effected our weather more than I thought it would.
    We were very lucky to have seen it because it began to storm, HEAVY, about an hour before the moon began to make its way onto the sun. Then promptly AFTER the eclipse it stormed even harder for the rest of the day. It was amazing the eclipse happened between storms. lol

    I was unfortunately not in the path of totality, but we did get about 88% coverage and while it didn't go completely dark, at the peak it suddenly got dim and super eerie. The temperature dropped a little for sure during the eclipse (I'm in FL so it's easy to notice any dip in temp since our daytime highs in these parts are pretty consistent this time of year) so I was able to sit outside with my pinhole projector fairly comfortably and watch the sun become a little toenail clipping.

    Don't look directly at the sun folks, if you value your eyesight wear goggles designed for this, also watch what you're doing with telescopes and cameras, use a filter for it for your safety. You can use two sheets of paper, if you don't have something else suitable, pierce a hole in one and hold the other a little further away so the image will show through the hole onto the second sheet. Or just watch online. Welders masks/goggles are good for viewing.
