  • Chamber bitter is an aggressive weed. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond says she pulls it as soon as she sees it in her beds. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says mulching is important. Chamber bitter requires sunlight to germinate, and mulch will block that. Chris also lists some pre-emergent herbicides that will control chamber bitter.

I dont like to call any plant a weed but this one is so much of a weed I cannot tell you lol. I'm an avid puller but this one is so hard to keep up

Mine shows up everywhere, but it is mostly in my asparagus bed. I take a chair and sit there and pull it out all the time. I can't spray because I finally got a good bed of asparagus.

It’s kind of pretty. Can it be grown as an indoor house plant? Or is that just crazy?

If it is all over your yard look into pre-emergents. They stop the plant before it grows. This will help reduce the seed bank in the soil without having to constantly spray.

I've been fighting this in my raised vegetable garden beds to 3 years to no avail. They spread like wildfire and I can't pull them fast enough. My question is should I just suppress and kill everything with a tarp and start fresh next year? I know I will kill my soil doing that, this is why I haven't done it thus far. I don't want chemicals in it. At a loss? Thanks in advance.

Yeah I'm at the same point with this weed.. bout to start it aflame 🤣 I don't treat my lawn area so I don't mind but this one pops up like crazy and spreads to my beds.
I say the best for what ur speaking is laying cardboard and then mulch on top.

It's an invasive species from S. America. Try a pre-emergeant in July. They don't drop seeds in springtime like normal weeds.
