    Thanks ever so much you've been a great help, I now need to find out which paper is best to print on: Hahnemühle German Etching, Hahnemühle Pearl, Canson Baryta Gloss, Ilford Cotton Textured. If you know it would be a great help 😉😁

    Thank you for this video. I am a bit embarrassed that I failed to recognize a HUGE shift in the Art world. I was under the assumption that all inkjet printers were basically toys when it came to art...I'm getting old ;) The good news is the technology has progressed to where I can print out an A3+ on my six-color Epson ET8550, varnish the print and it will last long past my life.

    I just bought my first giclee print. The Beatles Abbey Road crossing by Ron Campbell. I love it. Thank you for explaining the giclee process and I hope to get more in the future.

    By far the best video for understanding what's a giclée print that I have seen. Thank you very much! Now, the difficult decision is if I buy the Epson P-900 or the Canon Pro-1000.

    Dont listen to these People , a Giclee is just a better copy , it's not an investment unless it was made by the artist itself as a Limited Edition and hand signed .

      She means that the quality difference is significant enough that it's worth the extra cost, not that you can resell it for profit later 😅

    so that explains the printing. How do I get my paintings into print ready form? 16 x 20 18 x 24 is typical for me.

    I beg to differ about the color reproduction of pigment ink printers. Dye based ink printers will give a much more dynamic color gamut. Pigment is great for B&W images and archival reasons but color, not so much. (How do I know all this? I have a high end pigment ink printer and was very disappointed with the color reproduction on Fine Art papers)

    Thanks for this informative video. I’m still on the fence on a print I’m thinking to purchase. $650 on lithograph vs. $1695 Breathing Color Lyve Canvas, 19mil 450GSM, Acid Free, No Optical Brighteners (OBA), Certified Archival
    Is that worth the price difference?

    The one thing we have noticed is that it can NEVER get wet. Do not even wipe with a damp cloth! The colors will drip!

      We use a pre-treated canvas for our giclee canvas prints, so it can be cleaned gently with a soft cloth and water. I hope that helps!

    What do they call reproductions that are done by actual hand painting? Oil on canvas. Based on what the video describes giclée just seems like a glorified poster.

    • @encoreeditions2625
      @encoreeditions2625  4 роки тому +3

      Those are hand painted reproductions. True that a giclee is a printed reproduction, however, they are the only way to achieve the closest rendition of an original painting. Hand painted reproductions are, to a point, at the mercy of the interpretation of the artist. :) And, in addition, the media we use to create our giclee reproductions are the finest available. I hope this info helps!

    Your assertion that a "giclée" printer uses 10-12 different colored inks is absolute nonsense! Where did you come up with this? When the word was coined, it was used to describe a four color Iris, dye based print on a thick, uncoated watercolor type paper. There were no 10-12 color printers available in the early 90's, when the term was invented. Inks used with Iris printers were water soluble and extremely fugitive, especially when left uncoated, so there was nothing archival about them. This only came about 10 years later and continues to this day as pigment ink technologies evolve.
    "The word “giclée” was created by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any high-quality inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The process was born in the early 1990's as rock musician Graham Nash and his associate Mac Holbert uncovered a new capability of the Iris printer, a $200,000 piece of equipment back then. These early machines had been developed for digital graphic proofing, but it had not occurred to the manufacturer that its equipment would be adopted by artists as a digital method of fine art printing."

    There really isn't any better than other inkjet prints, as long as they printer is a top-quality printer. Giclee' prints are NOT worth almost twice the cost as other printers.

    Ill never get why people interested in art buys giclees and digigraphic works all just copied from an original, when fine handmade litographs, etchings, woodcarvings and real deal silkscreens is out there.
    I get that it is an affordable way to get something famous and cool, but still - a poster just costs 10$, and you got your awsome streetart or DaVinci :)
    Artists should stop making these seem like something real and authentic, convincing people to pay way too much for these.

    • @marya494
      @marya494 2 роки тому +1

      Maybe it's because they like the artwork, but don't have the funds to purchase the original. Original artwork can be very pricey. So getting a print, ensures the individual gets a copy of the art they love, whilst supporting the artist. 👍

    I've used several inkjet printers from Epson (like the one in the video) for more then twenty years in my 40 years career as a photographer. I never heard that much nonsense in six and a half minute! Giclée is nothing more than a marketing term. There are even some outright technical falsehoods in this video! There is no such thing as a giclée printer.
