    Thanks, I am not sure why, but when I do the flash thin skin wing case it never comes out quite centered on both. ( luckily the fish don't care.) I have done several patterns like this and have the same problem. I guess that is me. Nice fly. Glad you have returned from your around the world trip! All the best, Sean

    beautiful fly, excellent tying technique, the only thing I wouldn't use, are silicon legs, they don't last too much cast after cast, so I would change them by simple rubber legs.
    Great video and thanks for sharing it !

    Why the Flow on top of the thick? Nice Fly!

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  6 років тому +4

      Thick is more durable and builds up nicely, but it has a bit of tack. Flow helps reduce the tack

    How would that hook work out for chironomids?

    Love those hooks; but, whenever I use this as a top fly on a multi fly nymphing rig, I frequently lose the bottom fly(s) as the lower tippet will slide off the bend of the hook; how do you rig this hook as the upper of a multi fly rig?

      David B If you tie your flies on tag ends you won’t have that issue.

      If you don’t want tags, you can go eye to eye as well

    I have to ask this ..... why are you not using the vise to spin that wire on ...... seems counter to the whole purpose of having a 360 vise? Is it the style of hook? Cool fly by the way ...... I wouldn't want to be whacked by that thing though ~8^) or have it hit my rod ..... big open loop casts would be the order of the day heh heh!

      David Straub it’s just harder to apply the wire on a curved hook using the rotary

    You use a tool to cut the thread, not a pair of scissors, at about 13:15, right after you use the whip finish tool. What the heck is that and who makes it? I looked all through your store and Caddis Fly shop for it

      Brian Kempkes it’s the Loon Quick Cut whip finisher. store.flyfishfood.com/Loon-Ergo-Whip-Finisher-p/f1001.htm

      @@troutnut01 you can also grind a cutting edge on the back of most whip finishers that's what Tim Flagler uses

      @@vanquish_8145 unfortunately I’m old school and learned to tie before they created whip finish tools and I learned how to whip finish by hand, even down to #28. I found a miniature jewelers file, used my grinder to smooth the sides, put a 22 degree bevel into the tip, te hardened it, then used my sharpening diamond steels to hone a 28 degree micro bevel like my wood chisels, then imbedded the other end into a scrap piece of Osage wood and made that into a little handle, it works pretty good, much better than any scissors could.

    What did you cut the wire with?

      Just wiggled it until it broke

      Wait... The copper... Those are flush cutters. They work great for cutting thick wire.
