I actually think Matt’s voice sucks on this one. I kinda prefer when he takes a backseat on the vocals and let’s the bass do the talking.

Ditto. Among some punk rockers there's the philosophy that there should be no rock stars, no one band is more important than the audience and no one member is more important than any other in the band.
Rancid always consciously or unconsciously put the latter into practice by sharing the vocals between Tim and Lars and occasionally Matty Freeman. Also worth mentioning the first solo on Out Come The Wolves isn't from Tim *or* Lars, it's a bass solo from Matt.
It's their band, they should be able to try different things, why not?

It's amazing how Tim sounds almost the same as he did 34 fuckin years ago.

While I like Rancid, they're not even close to being "one of the best American punk bands". They're possibly in the top 50.
They are better than most the others that have been in the mainstream...I'll give you that.

@peter harman I like Rancid, for the most part. I met Tim & Matt in '87 when they were in Operation Ivy. I even stayed at the house of OPIV's lead singer, Jesse Michaels, a couple times. They're good people. That being said, they're my age or your younger & I know their influences...it's JUST way too hard for me to consider them one of the greats... BUT I do respect them.
Matt's voice is like a cozy gravel blanket. This song is rad
