Great review. I don't know what half of these people are on about. I don't wanna see a guy (or girl) shred metal for 10 minutes. I bet this guy can shred like a demon if he wants. He has demonstrated all of the different tones and FX of the amp and sold it to me. Just ordered it, upgrading from the Cube 60 after 3 years of trouble free gigging Thank you for an excellent demonstration.
Pro player for 35 years ! Been a Fender Vox and Marshall guy all my life this amp truly does it all! It built like a tank! Don't be fooled by its Black& Decker look 😂 this amp can keep up with a full band no problem!
I have the original Cube 60, and as an owner of a Mesa LoneStar Special, I have to say this little amp sounds great. Great tones for smaller jams, and respectable tones for recording. You aren't going to get the exact clean chime of a tube amp, but for anything dirtier the tones are realistic, not that the clean doesn't sound good. I also have a lottle bass Cube, and that thing sounds great!
I think he's a fine player....good warm sound. As far as his presence, I don't want him to sell me, just the basic facts. I don't get the criticisms here.
Actually about the best clean I have heard from a Cube. Maybe due to the higher watts? Anyway it strikes me that jazz players might like this on the clean side. The OD stuff didn't sound that great I didn't think.
Look,,,it's a lightweight, affordable solid state (reliable) practice amp. An extension cab line out would have been a nice option, but it's already too busy trying to be all things to all guitar players. Despite this very poor demo, it serves me well as a very versatile practice amp with good clean tones and serviceable effects (if used very sparingly). If you find yourself having to move a lot of heavy tube amps to rehearsals in different locations like I did - this is a very good amp. Cube 80 amp in one hand, guitar on my back in cushioned soft case. Not gonna replace your triple recto half stack, not gonna replace your twin reverb. But it's a good small lightweight practice combo.
Very good and "thorough" demo. Went thru everything in good order. Not trying to impress with guitar playing, but played everything really well. This is a good demo to really get a feel for what the amp can do.
I've owned an older Cube-15X and it's served as simple but great practice amp with decent clean and distortion tones. Though I agree that this was a poor representation of the 80GX's full capability, it's rather just a demo of what it would sound like in the styles played in this video. I play modern alt metal and post hardcore, so my 15X has been satisfactory. That being said, I know that the 80GX sounds much better.
Major fail not having the extention speaker out like the previous model! I use the 80XL on top of a eminence loaded 2 x 12 for a really big, defined sound. Check out the Cube 60 aswell. Big fan of Roland but that big CUBE logo sucks bigtime, no class.
I have 40watt cube great amp Roland always makes great pratice amps you don't need any additional pedal expect wah wah pedal or maybe some delay too but overall great amp.............
I have owned one for 2 years. It's great apart from an annoying and very audible hiss that often accompanies every note and lasts around 5 seconds. No change of setting remedies it. It's time might be up for me.
Every time you double wattage you actually only gain about 3db or so in total volume difference, but what you do get is greatly increased headroom with the higher power rating.
+Adrian X Stacy Yes... Through the front end, on the clean channel, all stomp boxes work and sound as expected... When you switch to the lead channel you do not get the expected performance when engaging overdrives or distortions when attempting to give it a little more drive.... It way over-saturates and you lose volume and tone.... I use distortion and overdrive pedals instead of switching between the lead and solo channels. I also use a chorus and delay pedal for extra flexibility. I like the the delay on the cube as well as the other fx but find the cube chorus is only usable on the clean channel with no drive. It's actually a great sounding amp and the only one I could find in the price range that has the direct out which I needed to go out to the sound system for our particular setup.
Gib Anez Thanks. I have a micro cube and love it but the speaker started sounding farty when you crank it (common problem). I would love to have a larger micro cube with EQ. I think i might get this one.
I've learned over the years, you could plug this dude into a GOD's amp and he would sound just like he does here. PLEASE do the product a favor and get better demonstrators.
Agreed. just tried this out and most of the lead channel sounds so dulled to me on most of the models, the only good sounds come from the JC-Clean and then the Extreme and the r-fier are ok

I’m years behind only just got my first micro cube great for wandering around in the summer great in the computer room during all this

greatvanzinni I agree. The cleans sound warm and open but the distortion sounds fizzy and buzzy.
Takes pedals well , just use your pedals

An excellent thorough review and demo - many thanks.

Just bought this baby!
Really awesome!

Third upload is the charm. Did they re-include the looper? Or maybe the upload is stuck in a loop?

Huge feature!
don;t listen to them jason.. nice job on the demo. I dont like the amp.. or the guitar but you demo'd it well. thanks!
For not being a tube amp I think it does well.
I have 40watt cube great amp
Roland always makes great pratice amps you don't need any additional pedal expect wah wah pedal or maybe some delay too
but overall great amp.............
I have the 30X and as a metal layer I need a lot of gain, but I need an extra overdrive pedal to stop the top end fading out

Compressor applied to everything
do you think this amp is good enough for a gig with a drummer ?
It is by far... I use the 40gx to gig with a drummer and i can easily drown him out.
+TheGamerx584 yeah very loud amp gig with it frequently
Nice reviews.
Yeah. Most people only need a small Combo.
how to use memory button? i dont understand how do you set different settings and then turn them with memory button.
The more demos of combo amps I see, the more I'm glad I have a Yamaha THR5. I don't gig. It's all I need.
I’m flexin this
Doesnt have acoustic amp?
would there be a difference in the sound quality between the 40gx and the 80gx or is just loudness
Every time you double wattage you actually only gain about 3db or so in total volume difference, but what you do get is greatly increased headroom with the higher power rating.
The tone on the rectifier setting does not do any justice to what is actually sounds like.
Anyone know how the cubes handle pedals?
+Adrian X Stacy Yes... Through the front end, on the clean channel, all stomp boxes work and sound as expected... +Adrian X Stacy good choice... I'm very pleased with my setup and It's a rock solid amp.
+Adrian X Stacy -there's no comparison to a $100 micro Cube and the real thing, no comparison, it's more like a toy than the real thing (imo)
Whats the real thing?
has the looper been left off this model?
+Pixelcount Photography unfortunately yes
I really do like what PG does, but please, choose a better player for these gear demos.
i felt like the camera was going to run in to the amp like 10 times with the "amazing" camera work
what a weird coincidence, my brother has a cube 40gx and a esp Ltd japanese honeyburst
King Dank Ivan Treager?
You stepped out a dream? Indeed lol
I've learned over the years, you could plug this dude into a GOD's amp and he would sound just like he does here. PLEASE do the product a favor and get better demonstrators.
After the monsters of high gain series i can't trust Premier guitar anymore
Cleans = YES
Dirty = NO
Agreed. just tried this out and most of the lead channel sounds so dulled to me on most of the models, the only good sounds come from the JC-Clean and then the Extreme and the r-fier are ok
Disagree - listen to this ! great also Dirty ua-cam.com/video/XMP0uDfLzg8/v-deo.html
Good demonstration. But geez, can't PG get the guy a real Les Paul?
Uploaded the third time , am i Right ? :D
C'mon - at least tune the guitar before demoing. How hard is that?
i liked it, but the accoustic simulator.. wtf..
Rob chapper's video on this amp is much better. Check It out if you're interested
*player
0mg the t0en b0x
Acoustic simulator yeah right, my Gibson LP using both pickups sounds more acoustic than this thing
Fair enough as demos go. Cheap amp for the bedroom. Tried one, useless for gigging.
You must have a big bedroom if you need 80 watts. That's plenty of watts to gig with on most jobs in small clubs.
The phaser, chorus, flanger, and tremolo on Roland amps are awful
Shit
Man that lead and stacked tone was horrible
the thought the newer models were Chinese wannabes....if it dont say roland on the front then it anit a roland
Oh my this sounds like crap
yep, third time
great amp - TERRIBLE demo. PLEASE don't let hipster jazzboy do any more vids!
Correct!! Very good Amp, but the demo is so poor...
wasted bucks!!!!!!!
Lame
Typical Roland.....
It looks like japanese plastic, it sounds like japanese plastic...
All the models sounds like plastic, nothing real !!!
This sounds horrible :/
That sounds like shit. Period.
yeah epic fail
