Hello! I am going to be a first-year third-grade teacher. I am wondering, what is the one thing you wish you knew before going into your first year? What’s something they don’t tell you in college?
I have truly loved following your journey and loved all the tips you gave. Now that you will be doing 7-8th grade I most likely won't watch because I need 4-5th channels. I have a question, what was your college experience like? In education specifically, how was it different, harder or easier than HS? And (so sorry this is a loaded ?) what was the most valuable thing you learned in college and then as an actual teacher?
When you come to a point where you have no need to impress anybody, your freedom will begin.
wow you’re gonna be teaching middle school? That’s a whole different story😭😭. You’ll be amazing though
Is it hard to figure out what to teach your students
There is a set curriculum. Most often state and school mandated. Like a list of here’s what your blank grade students need to learn. And then from there you have assessments and tests to see what you might need to work on more, or what you can skip out on. Sometimes that takes a school year, more, or less. And if a test doesn’t quite cover it, and you realize, they struggle with something you couldn’t see coming, you take it to an in school ela committee, and they can help. Or Teachers pay teacher is super helpful to find an extra morning work type thing in the area your students might struggle in. But teacher meetings are SO SUPER helpful.
