My only reason for not carrying a Spirit MX, is because of the scissors. My question that I had when I owned my Spirit MX is "how are you going to sharpen these scissors without damaging the spring?" I found that the one hand mechanism does shorten the blade, compared to the nail nick opening Spirit X (not sure why Victorinox did that?). The Spirit MX is an engineering masterpiece because it has so many tools in such a thin package! I also love how it has a very gradual taper. The tool ends is thinner ever so slightly compared to the pliers end. I remember comparing the tools end side of the Spirit MX to my folding knife which has a 0.5" handle thickness and the two were equal. For me if I want a Victorinox pliers based MT, I gravitate also towards the Swisstoo X, but I must say the Leatherman Wave+ is just in between these two Swisstools in weight, at 8.6 oz (mine anyway). Thanks for sharing!
The spirit was the first one i bought after i was disapointed by the charge tti. Didnt like it at all and bought a normal swisstool after it. A lot of years later and i still have a Swisstool X (2 to be axact, one black that victorinox switched the serrated blade to scissors as a custom order) Coolest thing, the clip works on models since late 98 so they invented a very useful feature over 20 years later.... and a little tip, you can put a regular splitring from a sak under the bent end of the clip and attach a lanyard or keychain on it:)
