Regarding the KitchenAid attachments, you honor your mom by the way you invest in and love your kids. I would encourage you not to add any "shoulds" to your plate. Whether the pasta is homemade or from a box, you're feeding your family. :)

A resounding YES to this comment. You DO NOT have to make homemade pasta to honor you lovely Mom. The way you love your children is an honor to her every.single. day. Hugs

I am 78 years old and married for 57 years. I have never owned a Kitchen Aid mixer. I have only had a hand held mixer. I’ve often thought I should probably buy one because it seems to do so much, but every video I watch everyone doesn’t want to keep theirs on their counter. I don’t understand why they want to drag this heavy appliance out every time they want to use it. It should be front and center and used to the max.

I have a KitchenAid mixer I do use it I don't use any of the specialty attachments. I definitely could live life without it though I do like having it I do have a handheld mixer though that I got a couple years ago for $5 and it's actually really nice to have that to do things instead sometimes. When I was growing up we never had a KitchenAid mixer we just had the handheld one. I definitely think of the handheld one is better for a lower maintenance option.

I keep mine on the counter with a towel "hat" to keep it clean. It's way too heavy to be keeping in a cupboard. I keep it where I use it.

I keep mine on the counter. Only way I could see moving it to a cabinet in the future is if I didn't use it that often or if I was limited on counter space. 🤷‍♀️ I wonder if it's more of an aesthetic thing with most people online.

I know and some of the minimum mom videos Dawn talks about another creator that whenever they get a new appliance that use it every day that week. Maybe sometime you could carve out a week or two to intentionally use your KitchenAid attatchments repeatedly. Like a week that things aren't too busy or maybe in the summer time. That may help you realize oh yeah you really do love the fresh pasta and it really wasn't as hard mentally as he thought now that you have done it a couple times. And it becomes a regular in your life or maybe you use some of the attachments and you know you know what that's not for me I actually prefer either not eating those products or just getting them a different way or preping them a different way. I have two very nice pans one of them is a dutch oven that I was gifted for Christmas several years ago.... I haven't been able to mentally process using them yet we've had a lot of really busy seasons I had another baby life's just been crazy this year was supposed to be a good one so it was last year but it was chaotic still and I definitely really want it and see myself using it someday but the mental energy it takes for me to learn how to use right now. And I have plenty of easy things that can leave in a pain-free manner so I definitely think skipping items is a good route to go when you really are pulled in both directions.

Your kids are at the age that they might really love to make pasta or do some cooking with those attachments for the kitchen aid. Sometimes a fun thing like that, even if only used a few times with kids is worth it. Or you could start a new tradition and make pasta with the kids on a certain day of the year. I know they say to store lids on your containers but really, those plastic containers would take 1/4 the room if you stacked them and the lids with them separately.

Kitchen cabinets on the bottom are way too deep. They need to be the same depth as the top cabinets. It would free up kitchen space, stop you from buying too much, is more accessible imo. Refrigerators are too deep too. It just encourages stuff to be pushed back and forgotten. Makes more sense to have an island and floor to ceiling cabinets for organization.

No matter what age I have been, digging through lower cabinets is something I can’t stand. I designed our kitchen 16 years ago and put in several sets of drawers instead of lower cabinets. Blessed and thankful for that. The 3 bottom cabinets I have…yes stuff is lost in the back!

  • @bethstratton3391

Erica, well done on your declutter, that cabinet looks so much more functional. FYI Fire extinguishers usually last up to 10 - 12 years according to the UK National Fire Service website. You should examine them every year to check the safety catch and make sure they aren’t overly dinted as they are pressurised canister’s, even though they are made to be extremely durable.
Anyway Erica, I’m glad you kept the kitchen aid pasta making attachments because it is so easy to make pasta using them; you really should try yours out. It’s a really fun activity to do with your children too, if any of them like cooking, because like you said homemade pasta is so healthy if made with good quality flour, it’s also creative, gives a sense of achievement and the kids get to eat the yummy results of their efforts. Also, my reason for wanting you to keep it, if I’m being really honest, is partly because I know the full set of three rollers and cutters is about £180 in the UK and I imagine it’s near that price for them new in the US too, so you might have regretted it if you’d decluttered them before you even tried using them. I know we shouldn’t keep stuff just because it cost money though.

That top you are wearing is fab! It looks very comfortable yet dressy. I support you making homemade pasta, please make a video when you do.

I would donate it. If you really want to learn to make homemade pasta you can buy it again. Right now isn’t the right season it seems. I don’t know your mom but I think you have more on your plate than she did when she was able to fit in making pasta. Also, I would let go of things that make you feel guilt when you look at it. I love how you talk all these things out loud to us. Many of us struggle mentally with all these thoughts. ❤

I love the thought process, I also love the plastic dish. If you don't use the tools sell them, you don't have to make noodles. I can't believe it's been 4 years. Push the kitchen aid items to the back and donate if not needed.

I hope I am not repeating. Yes fire extinguishers expire / need to be replaced / recharged. Last I checked, it was more economical to replace.

Just like you and the pasta maker… received a bread machine as a gift 20 + years ago , never used it . I’m going to give it a try and see if I would keep using it .

Fire extinguishers do expire. You can check with your local fire department. Many will check and recharge them.

You can use the cake stand to house small collections and the cake stand will keep those small items dust free.
Also thrift stores have glass cake stands that you can buy inexpensively.

You can freeze a dollop of the pesto on a cookie sheet then pull it out, let it thaw for a minute so it releases from the cookie tray. Or use a silicone baking mat so it comes off easy. No need for the ice cube trays. We also do this with chiptole sauce.

I did this with my makeup 👍💜 I moved everything to a very small desk drawer and decluttered a good amount.

I don't understand how you can have 438 videos on decluttering and STILL have that much stuff... especially dusty boxes of unopened things from 13 years ago! 🤷

I would love to reduce my entire home by 50% but starting with the kitchen. I am slowing attacking the job and fortunately I can pass off a lot to my newly married son. He and his wife are happy to take most of what I offer. They haven’t got their own home yet but we are boxing up items for them so that when they do they will be well on their way without having to shell out so much money. This helps all of us.🥰

Sure, get rid of half of the ice cube trays.
But, it sounds like you want to keep the kitchen aid attachments. I hope you keep them. Your kids are getting older and you will have more time to be adventurous. I speak from experience.
I’m huge at decluttering. If I think you should keep them…. That’s big…. I typically tell people to let it go. Not this time. 😊

Hi Erica! I loved this video, great job!! I've also been thinking of how inspired I was by your "100 walks" and would love for you to do that again! I might revisit your old videos for support, but I would love for some of us to do it together! Thanks for always being your authentic self, pushing through tough times and tackling difficult decisions. You are so relatable and I love you! ❤

I was hoping you kept that cake plate coz i bought one last summer and STILL havent used it! I dont even do layer cakes but I liked the chip & dips aspect because I usually cook 1 big dinner a month for my kids & grandsons. Cook & They Will Come is my experience. I make it on a third Sunday usually. Otherwise time goes by fast and I never see them. Yes, its all for selfish reasons.

Hello, Erica. Yes fore extinguishers so have expiration dates. Please do not try to use one that has expired, it can cause worse damage.
For grease fires, candle lit fires or fires on the stove, a "fire blanket" is so much easier to extinguish the flames and reusable after each use. Please look into a fire blanket to keep near your stove or under the kitchen sink. Lovely video as usual! Have a blessed day!

Erica- I love the way you talk through your thought process when decluttering. I learn so much from that. Maybe try the pasta maker with the kids - kinda a science/cooking project. I bet they'd get a kick out of it. Have a fabulous day and thanks for you videos :)
