I adore your read aloud goals! Your the best!! Do you have a video, or maybe a printable, that outlines all these books for each grade and gender? This is just incredible! Thanks for setting the bar so high!
we love the chronicles of narnia we are doing them as readalouds as well this year my 2nd oldest whose going in 7th grade the magicians nephew is on the list of books shes supposed to read in readiness for boarding school this year though they wont be going til jan now and since my twins wanted to read it as well we decided to turn them into family read alouds
Would love to hear how you do assigned readers in your homeschool along with when during the day, etc? My son loves reading and reads a ton, so I'm hesitant to assign reading; although, I know it's super beneficial to assign certain books/genres. What is your timeframe of how long you give kids to read a certain book, etc? How many books do you give your kids throughout the year to read? Do they read as a part of their homeschool day or is it just on their own timeframe? Thanks! Your content is SO practical and helpful!!!
Thanks! I appreciate your channel. I'm a new homeschooling momma to 3. We watch your channel for inspiration and encouragement. You have much to share. Thank you!
The Art book is one of the best, clearest, and most easy, to see the painting and understand the Art, that I've found. We read it last year for 4th grade. We loved it!
Island of the Blue Dolphin!! Love this book!! Seriously remember reading this in school in 5th grade !! Where do you get your book option lists from? what do you present to the kids, list wise , of books to choose? Why didn't I realize that LA Good and Beautiful had read aloud for LA or did you add that in?
When it comes to family read alouds are you the one reading the books? do you get tired of reading the read alouds plus the reading of the groups subjects like history or the science units? I usually have to read the lessons in my kinder and 1st graders math and la and then also reading the history, science lessons and read alouds. I am wondering how do you do it. Thanks for these videos.
Yea my 5th grader is an excellent reader 8th grade level but does not like to read? So I try and have her read at least something 20 min a day! This summer I’m also trying to have her read new books instead of books she’s already read! I love to read and read every night before bed and do it for fun. She likes being read to but if I don’t make her read she’ll never pick up a book!
We are just finishing up Narnia series! We read them in the order C.S. Lewis wanted them read. I did read a good explanation of why you should read Magicians Nephew AFTER Lion Witch and the Wardrobe (it keeps that magic of that book intact while Magicians Nephew almost explains it too much and you lose that magic feel of wonder). We enjoyed the series! We will start our school year off with The Hobbit and a book study on that! Have a great year!
Do yuou have a similar video from last year? I have a 2nd grader and would love to know how you picked books. She does NOT enjoy reading like your kids, but I desperately want her to.
I am the same as you, Amazon is just so easy for purchasing books... especially right now! Thanks for sharing all of these books, definitely putting many of these on my children’s lists.
We have read the Narnia series as a read-a-loud and we all loved it. I love the Horse and His Boy and the Last Battle. My kids enjoyed The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe as well as Dawn Treader the most. Thanks for the book ideas!
Thanks for sharing! I've been looking for ideas for read alouds for this upcoming year, so this is so helpful! And I loved hearing in another video your kids' ratings on books they've read. That's a great idea and I'm going to have my kids do that this year as well. Question:. Do you have your kids do book reports on all the books they read? Do you do book reports at all? If so, I'm curious how you have your kids do those. TIA!
For the books that you read aloud to them, Do you read one chapter from each book that you're currently reading each day? If that makes sense. Like one chapter from the missionary book, one chapter from the history read aloud, one chapter from the CS Lewis books. Just wondering how you fit all of it in.
We did the chronicles of narnia last year. My kids loves to be able to watch the movies after we finished the books for the first few!! We really enjoyed those!
Thank you for sharing your book lists. I have a big age gap between my oldest and the next 2nd child. They are 5,6,&11. How do you pick a read aloud book to keep them all engaged?
Thank you for the video. I needed some ideas for books for my family. I was wondering when do your kids read their assigned readers? Do you include that as part of the school time or is that something they do after school or both?
How long do you read with each subject a day and then individual times. I am Homeschooling 3 kids this year pre-K, 4th level 3 and 5th level 4. I homeschooled last year and struggled with time.
The Trumpet of the Swan is my absolute favorite. I always try to get one of those missionary stories on audio book from the library and we listen to it in the car going to and from co-op.
I love that you're sharing book recommendations!!! Just a quick question: where in your day do you read the family read aloud? Is it during your morning basket time? Do you read a chapter at a time or set a certain amount of time? Thanks Ashley!
So many great choices! We are also going to try and read the Narnia collection as well as the Percy Jackson collection as family read alouds this year.
What chapter books would you recommend for a girl in grade 1? What did your girls love to read at that age? My daughter reads at about a grade 3 level, so I find the recommended grade one chapter books are too easy and the story lines too basic 😊
We love the Chronicals of Narnia as a family read aloud! They changed the order since I was a kid - I still follow the old order ( with my box set from 1989).
Loved this video! I’m always interested in read alouds of like-minded families. My kids are in the younger range of your group but I definitely took notes 😊
Thanks for sharing! You have given me some great ideas on some read aloud I know my children will enjoy too! 📚 Blessings to you and your family. ❤️ From Colorado, Linda 🌿
In regards to your 3rd grader, do you have her read those books out loud to you or silently? And if read to herself, do you ask alot of questions to be sure that she is actually reading it and following along well?
Silent stalker for awhile now - love love your content - you’re really helping this first time homeschooling mom get her stuff together (pre-Corona)! Do you do all of your read-alouds during one sitting? Meaning, missionary story then a chapter from CS Lewis, etc.? God bless!
Great picks! We'll be reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe aloud, as well as Because of Winn-Dixie and a few others (I'm still putting our list together). Thanks for sharing your readers/read-alouds so far!
Ok mama...can you tell me how you pick/find books for your kiddos?! I love everything you shared but I struggle finding read alouds for my boys. Good, wholesome assigned readers...you know what I mean?! Yes, please bring more books to us! 😍
Love❤️❤️❤️ I’m curious when you guys read? I know your school flow has y’all read with bible in the morning, right? Do you read like a chapter of each book at that time or do you break it up throughout the day? Thank you for your videos! Always so helpful!
Love your book Recommendations. Would love some reccomendations for 1st grade. My daughter will be 1st grade, and would love some recommendations. We are not homeschooling for now, so something that she could read before bedtime. Thanks a lot
We’ll have to get back to The Call of the Wild. We started it because the movie was coming out soon, but it was INTENSE! And we’re not the kind of family that sugar coats or hides all scary things lol, but man, it was so different than when we finally watched the movie. I’ll try and pick it back up and just finish it 😬
Love, love, love this video! It really helps me with seeing what else is out there to read for school. Can't wait to see your kids rating on books too--more ideas for books to add to our homeschooling. How young did you start your kids off with their own independent reading? We read aloud as a group but I've been thinking that I should push my 1st grader next year for independent reading. Do you try to balance fiction and nonfiction or subject types with books you offer them to choose from?
I am in a pickle for this school year. I've been homeschooling for 6 years but never picked books randomly from my own library and bought even more from thrift books etc...I've always had a curriculum tell me what to read...aloud and readers. Without that guide I can't figure out what to assign and what to read aloud....other than what reading level they're at I don't know how else to decide. I have a 3rd grader this coming year too!
I would be interested in hearing about your process of choosing free reads. Do you work off of a curriculum book list or gather these yourself? Thank you for all the great content!
Could u send me name of books & authors for ur 5th grader plz? I can go back & look but I'm getting ready for a trip right this sec & afraid I'll forget later. At a glance, looked like books my boys would 💜 . Tks for sharing.
Ooooh girl I love seeing book lists and read-aloud ideas! (By the way, I sent you an email!!) I am super jealous of your good readers. My 5th and 3rd graders hate it! It's so hard finding a balance between requiring them to read, but not making it feel like a punishment. All 4 of my kids DO enjoy being read to, so I foresee many read-alouds in our future!
This was great! I loved seeing the books! Do you have the kids discuss them or do book reports- or do you just have them read it for enjoyment? I’d like some advice in that area.
Yes same here! Brand new ro homeschooling with a 2nd grader (reluctant reader) and 5th grade (avid reader) and wondering how to pick books that appeal to both and also give an extra challenge to our oldest. Can you offer guidance on discussions, book reports, etc?
Were your kids always into reading? What did you do at an early age to encourage that? My kiddo is only 2 but I wanted to start her off on the right path
I’ve been wanting to get more Heroes of the Faith books! We bought one for the fall but I’m drawing a blank right now who it was about! Trumpet of the Swan has been very enjoyed in our house 😊
Thank you for sharing. I'm curious why your 8th grader is reading the condensed Heidi instead of the original classic. I did see you also have her reading Anne Frank, a pretty hefty text.
Your choices look really fun. Love those missionary stories ;) have you read Holes? I'm not sure if I should give my boys Holes to read, it seemed like such a strange story to me. Trumpet of the Swan is such a nice book. We read it as a family and then my 4th grader reread it as a reader at the end of the last school year. So nice. Enjoy! We can't wait to start school on Monday, everybody is keen, as well as Mom. :) Blessings from a MAF missionary.
Great picks! Thank you for sharing.
Amazing list of books 📚
I adore your read aloud goals! Your the best!!
Do you have a video, or maybe a printable, that outlines all these books for each grade and gender?

This is my favorite type of video that you do please continue them!

I love videos about books. There are always a couple that I have not seen before and look interesting.

They do both! I assign a book that must be read daily for school and then they are able to read whatever they want when they want, and they do!
Love seeing book choices!!!!
Thank you for sharing! I love new reading ideas!
Thanks! I appreciate your channel. I'm a new homeschooling momma to 3. We watch your channel for inspiration and encouragement. You have much to share. Thank you!
Yes, please keep sharing books. I added a few to my list!
Yes more books please 📚 ☺️
The Art book is one of the best, clearest, and most easy, to see the painting and understand the Art, that I've found. We read it last year for 4th grade. We loved it!

These are my favorite videos of yours! Thank you so much for these recommendations!!
I always enjoy seeing the read alouds! Thank you so much!
This was awesome thank you!!

Obsessed with book videos 😍. My son LOVED trumpet of the swan! Happy reading to you all!!

Yay!!!!! I have been waiting for this, mama! Beginning our 8th year homeschooling. 7th, 5th and 2nd so this is right up our alley! 🤗💓
Hope you have a wonderful year
Thank you so much! This gives me such great ideas for our first year of homeschooling!

Random, but I love your shirt!!! Where did you buy?
Gow do you plan what you will read in a school year or semester?
I needed this video today! I’ve been struggling for ideas for assigned reading for my kiddos this year!🙂
I am the same as you, Amazon is just so easy for purchasing books... especially right now! Thanks for sharing all of these books, definitely putting many of these on my children’s lists.

Yes 1 ch of each, and the history read alouds are read in opposite quarters of our other pics
How was George Washington's secret six?? I picked it up at Ollie's and want to know what you thought :)
Can be tough so sometimes I’ll alternate one geared towards younger and the one toward older
Thank you for the video. I needed some ideas for books for my family. I was wondering when do your kids read their assigned readers? Do you include that as part of the school time or is that something they do after school or both?

Yes during morning time and I strive for a chapter a day!
Do you read multiple books at a time or one until it’s finished?
Narnia series is one of our family favorites!! They are SO good on audio as well.
Tale of Desperaux and Because of Winn Dixie, we read them years ago and they are still some of our favorites 💙
Slave Boy In Judea is SO GOOD! That and Daughter Of The Mountains were big hits for us.
Thanks, Ashlee! Loved this video and would love to see more book lists from you and the kiddos. :)
I’ve got their favorite books from last year coming this week!
Grace and Grit Yay! You’re the best!
So many great choices! We are also going to try and read the Narnia collection as well as the Percy Jackson collection as family read alouds this year.
I am inspired!! What beautiful books! Wish I was a local friend who could borrow some after you use them! 😍
We are reading CS Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia this year too! So excited! It was one of my favourite series when I was a kid 😊

Yes we have a list and then they give feeback
Love the books! We are also planning to do the Chronicles of Narnia set for our family read alouds this year!
We love the Chronicals of Narnia as a family read aloud! They changed the order since I was a kid - I still follow the old order ( with my box set from 1989).
The Narnia series is the best! We've read it several times. A must read for every family.
Loved this! I added several books to my 5th grader's potential reading list because I can tell they were books he would love as well! :)
Great video! How do you know where to start with the books you present to your kids as they make their choices?
I research online and word of mouth
Loved this video! I’m always interested in read alouds of like-minded families. My kids are in the younger range of your group but I definitely took notes 😊
@graceandgrit Spotify has Narnia podcast reading the books
Ohhh thankyou

It’s like you read my mind by posting this. I’ve been a little lost trying to figure out books. Thanks!
I hadn’t thought about doing assigned readers for my 4th grader but that’s a great idea!
We love the missionary stories too. We have the Chronicles of Narnia on our book list as well! Thanks for sharing

Yes we read them in the am
Do you do the majority of your family reading during your morning basket?
Yes
Love your book Recommendations. Would love some reccomendations for 1st grade. My daughter will be 1st grade, and would love some recommendations. We are not homeschooling for now, so something that she could read before bedtime. Thanks a lot

Once they are confident and demonstrate understanding then I allow them to silently read and then tell me what happened in the chapter

Not after each, mostly just verbal discussion

Daily, and sometimes at night too!
@@GraceandGrit you're a rockstar!! Having little ones under 2 ago has thrown me off. Have to find a new read aloud rhythm!

I ordered the abridged version accidentally and don’t care to return it. 😅
