I have started a "dot" system with green, yellow and red dots that has really helped me with consistency. My action goals are staying in my fasting window, drinking my water, taking my vitamins, doing 60 minutes of exercise each day and keeping track of what I did in my journal. If a do all of the above, I get a green dot, if I do some, but not all of those things, I get a yellow dot, and if I don't do anything at all, I get a red dot. I really see results on the scale when I get a string of green dots going! It's amazing how getting that green dot drives me to get up and do what I'm supposed to be doing - it's like getting paid for my efforts. I now LOOK for ways to get everything done instead of making excuses for not doing them.
Kayla Cox, thank you for opening up the comments. I have been wanting to tell you that you have the best videos on UA-cam regarding weight lost. I love reading them because I have learned so much. You make it sensible, smart and actually fun, and it works, God Bless
Thank you for this video! I’ve recently decided I should do more walking. Before, I thought it was not important, but I gained back some weight even though I continued intermittent fasting. Just today, I came back from vacation and was pleased to see I haven’t gained any weight (maybe even lost some, I’ll see in the morning). I was pretty loose with my eating, but we walked a lot! There was no single day with less than 15 thousand steps. Walking must be really important.
For me I've found it really helps me stay on a more even emotional keel, and that in turn helps me to not overeat/stress eat/eat out of boredom. But certainly there's calorie burn happening too. (:
I am so glad that we are able to comment. I love your videos, they are so to the point, sensible and you have the ability to help me focus. I do wish we could see more of you, the videos are really motivating! Let's do a challenge together for OMAD and steps!!
I've been toying with the idea of some sort of steps challenge or something similar, I've just not figured out the best way to structure it. Glad you enjoy the videos!
I try to do 20,000 steps but Sunday it’s harder, it’s harder when it’s hot outside so I start early morning. I have 3 bird dogs that need walking! That keeps me motivated! I do say Kayla does 14,000 steps and that’s good on Sunday!
Thank you for this. Getting in my daily steps is now less a priority but an absolute habit my family finds obnoxious. I park in the back of the lot. I walk around in a blaze orange vest in the dark. I prioritize decent shoes over style. And, the desire to walk keeps me away from the food that kept me fat. My apartment isn't big enough for walking, but I save tons of time not waiting for the bus. It's not hard to walk if you can get your mind to change. The rewards exceed weight loss, and it's never a waste of time. My neighbor planted hedges of purple flowers yesterday, and I saw them about 9pm last night. Well worth the walk!
Yep. I've met so many of my neighbors while getting my steps in each day, and seen so many neat things that I would've missed otherwise. There are many other advantages aside from weight loss.
I love Nordic walking for the much added upper body workout it adds to walking. Enjoy watching you're videos on the greatest form of human locomotion..........Walking.
Thank you so much for your videos. Thank you for being so down to earth & relatable. Last week after watching your videos I started walking indoors 5 minutes. This week I started walking 20 minutes a day. I'm also doing intermittent fasting 20 hours a day. I'm just going to gradually add more minutes each week. I wish I had found your videos 1st. I made it too hard on myself & quit. I started back this month on May 2nd. I'm 63. I'm wondering if weight loss will be slower.
I used to make it too hard on myself too, and was always in that loop of making it hard, quitting, then trying again, making it too hard, and then quitting again. Sounds to me like you're on the right track. Slow weight loss is good. I lost at the rate of about a pound a week when I had the most weight to lose. And once I got down to a normal BMI it slowed down to one third of a pound a week. (:
@@SixMilesToSupper This morning I'm staying busy. I have walked 48 minutes picking up trash along the road...I know it's not a fast paced walk so how would you count that Kayla? Thank you for being such an inspiration.
I needed this push. Had been doing 10k steps in my house during covid and omad and was seeing success. I got sidetracked with election and been absorbed with audits but want to get back in track with putting my health first.
Thanks for the kind words! I tend to buy new shoes about every 6 months/1,000 miles or so. Most people would say I should change them more often but I'm painfully frugal. Here's a video I did about my shoes after 1,000: ua-cam.com/video/BoFci3fcH5Q/v-deo.html
I do a paper round & on the weekends I can accumulate around 11,700 steps doing this per day. In the weekdays is around the 5600 for the rest of the day I make up for it.
That’s awesome. I started doing 3.5. Then bumped up to 4 then 5. Each am. Then I figured what if I added another 2.5 in the evening? So I tried it. These days 7.5-8.0 have become routine. Now, it takes a shit ton of time. And it took a long time to get results. Basically 5 miles a day times 7 days equals 3500’calories which is 1lb of fat. So keeping with it takes dedication. I walked for like months before anyone noticed much of anything. About 6 months in now. Never weighed myself but I’ve been told I’ve lost at least 15lbs
Dumb question, but is it plausible to do 3 miles in the morning and 3 in the evening? I can't go that far now (36 weeks pregnant) but when I'm able to walk comfortably with a stroller, I'd love to start walking consistently and biking some like I used to.
You say you have your 3 cups of coffee a day!! That is what sold me!🤗 I put 3 Sweet n Lows, 2 teaspoons of coffeemate and a splash of 2% milk in each cup! Can I still have 3 cups a day??
Kayla used sugar in her coffee in the beginning, but wanted to learn to drink unsweetened things so she removed it. You can do whatever you want. There is no intermittent fasting police, right?! Do what works for you and helps you stay on track. Here is a video she did specifically about coffee and she talks about sweeteners as well. ua-cam.com/video/H_FxxchxBOk/v-deo.html - J.R.
@@SixMilesToSupper Thank you for your reply, Kayla. I will certainly watch that video. Kayla, please see my comment on your wonderful video concerning self-awareness. You can't imagined the impact that video has had on me God bless you and your family.
No, we stopped RVing once the shutdowns started happening last year. We were on the road for 2 years, and I'm so thankful we had the opportunity to do it when we did.
How did you get it done with children around? I find that’s one of my biggest setbacks. I can’t seem to find a consistent way of doing it with kids in tow (currently 7,5 and 2 years old). The older two can ride their bikes so that helps but the youngest can’t as of yet so when I have them with me I struggle with the “what’s the point” type thinking because I feel like I’m barely moving.
Well, this is where housewalking helped me. I found I could just get this 6 mile walk in by walking around inside the house and my kids didn't need to be with me. My kids were 3, 6, and 9 when I started that.
I don't usually find I have hunger pangs after a walk. I walk slowly (3 miles per hour). I do like to have a nice cold drink of water or unsweetened sparkling water (Like La Croix, Bubly, or Clear American). If I'm consistently getting hunger pangs, I take that as a signal to eat a bit more during my eating window. Here's a video I did about dealing with hunger: ua-cam.com/video/N08DLXbqmTk/v-deo.html
