  • Why aren't more people investing in Africa's green energy? Environmental researcher Rebekah Shirley outlines the continent's immense potential for renewable power and calls for collaborative international investment -- and partnership -- in Africa's climate future. "Let's cut past the talk and focus on unleashing the avalanche of a clean energy future that Africa is ready to deliver," says Shirley.

In the talk, Rebekah Shirley discusses the concept of a clean energy hub, which is a localized area where renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydro are harnessed to power communities.
Shirley explains that the idea of a clean energy hub is not just about producing renewable energy, but also about creating economic opportunities and improving quality of life for people in the surrounding areas. These hubs can provide jobs in areas such as construction, installation, and maintenance of the renewable energy infrastructure, as well as support for local businesses.
Shirley also emphasizes the importance of considering equity in the development of clean energy hubs. She notes that historically marginalized communities should not be left out of the benefits that clean energy can bring, and that it is important to involve community members in the planning and decision-making processes.
Overall, Shirley's talk highlights the potential for clean energy hubs to not only reduce reliance on fossil fuels, but also to promote economic development and social equity in communities.

Mining those precious metals in africa, no safety for the workers and children, yes they now can have the same cancerous equity as those before them, btw rare earth minerals are not renewable

Wonderful talk by Rebekah - the opportunities for economic dynamism and sustainable living in Africa are staggering. We should not leave Africa behind as has been done so many times in the past.

Every life has positive and negative ingredients that make up one’s history. Take a moment to let gratitude move through you now. Every pain that has grown into wisdom. Everything you know now that you did not know before.
Ask how much you like who you are and create kindness around your answer, no matter what it is. Know that you have power over who you want to be.

Africa has serious issues with corruption, unproductive gov that make decision making almost impossible. Then the skill shortages in delivering such projects.

yep Sahara solar and wind plans to power Europe have been put forward many times, gets to a feasibility stage and corruption or foreign interests/ geopolitics stop everything once again, OECD dig them out of the hole first then moves to cooperation

Breathe in now, deeper than you might. Let the same air that fills those skies fill your lungs. Nature is always in conversation with itself, and you are always welcome. You are a part of all that occurs. You have a place in it.
Every step you’re taking here to become the version of yourself you wish… they are all adding up. You can have your own “vie fabuleuse” - your own Fabulous life - where you connect with the beauty in every moment.
Keep looking. Take that breath. You’ll find it.
