As someone currently dating a Cantonese partner, trying to learn has been a wild ride. Really informative video :)
Thanks for the kind words! I'm sure you can do it! :) the most important words are all the food names 🤣
Omg the little story about the seller and buyer at the end 😂😂
great!
This is of topic but u r so HANDSOME like that smile😊
Can you make a video about onomatopoeia in Cantonese? The train section got me thinking about the word choo choo and I wonder what it would be in Cantonese. (Ps. I had to Google how to spell it because my attempt was so bad autocorrect didnt understand what i was trying to say)
Whoever made cantonese hates real estate agents 😂
Haha, i have one in the making! :) Sorry. My long form content takes a while because of the editing. X.x soon!!! :3
@@jcliang I will be patiently waiting!
I speak Cantonese by the way
Doesn't help that some of these words are written *very similarly* (like the healthy-rancid, sell-buy pairs) lmao. I think 'rancid' is specifically derived from the 'healthy' word based on how it's written, like the sell and buy pair
Also, I sent a screenshot of your thumbnail to my friend, and I've been challenged to write a verse with the words in them 😅😂It is going... swimmingly
🤣🤣 actually! I was gonna do a video about that. A lot of words are written in a way specifically because they sound similar! So youd actually probably be correct in saying they are very similar!!
Haha, lemme know how the verse writing goes! Sounds... difficult 😆
@@jcliang I finished the verse lmao, here goes:
(輸)咗唔知點(抒)發?
(舒)舒服服係(暑)假睇(曙)光
最啱(紓)緩情緒。
特(殊)啲飛(鼠)係邊(處)?
係(樹)上面睇(書)?
梗係揸住枝(殳),(豎)起尾巴,
係(庶)民戶(樞)食番(薯)啦!
Translation:
Don't know how to get it out of your system when you lose?
Comfortably watching the dawn light during the summer holidays
Is the best way to relax.
Where is the special flying squirrel?
Is it reading on the tree?
Naturally, it's holding a spear with its tail straight up,
Eating yam by a commoner's door hinges!
It is very much... a nonsense verse, but there's a story there! Somewhere. Also this was the first time I'd heard of 殳 and 樞 so I just looked them up and hope I used them right...
i mean, tbh, kinda agree with you for some of them, but for others(like the last one) it just seems a matter of improper pronounciation
Haha, yeah it mainly is pronunciation! But why even have the risk of misunderstanding? It should be as different as possible imo!
@@jcliangmaybe, but i kinda like the subtleties between tone in cantonese.
Out of curiosity, are you still in guangzhou/hk or abroad?
@@padfoot9445 I live in the US! :) I can't say my Chinese is GREAT, but it's better than most of my friends' :3
