@@NinjaFlibble here's the thing though. The Veil is unnatural. An elven made construct imposed upon the natural landscape of Thedas.
It made the continent of Thedas far more hospitable for human lives but not elven lives. Solas is intent on freeing Prometheus from his chains. And permit nature to reassert itself.
For all the humans living in Thedas, and their kingdoms. It will be like the destruction of Pompeii on a continent wide scale! You can't blame a volcano for being a volcano. 🌋 Or a God for being the God that he is. Or an elf or man for making an effort to correct his mistake...

+Arthur Now that's just eating up a lot of details for the sake of comparison. Corypheus' one and only drive was always lust for power. He Was a priest of the Old Gods in a moment in which Tevinter wasmoving away from relgious fanatism and instead focusing their power on the Archon and the Magisterium itself. In other words,the Old God priests were losing their power against the Archon,and in a bid for power he followed the intructions of his gods and entered the Fade, hoping to show the world the power of the Gods.
Solas however was a rebel leader in the midst of a war between tyrants. After many ages of fighting and many sacrifices he lost the one person he did not want to lose (Mythal) and partly in rage he vanished his enemies, but at a high prize he did not foresee.
Yes, both destroyed the world with their actions,both acted without looking at the consequences,but their intentions were not the same, neither in the past nor after waking up in the present. Corypheus in the present wanted to be a god. Solas was ready to sacrifice everything, himself included, to restore his People.

True, but then it kind of cheapens the moment he shares with Lavellen in that scene if you did his romance... I always read his look as tender and regretful (insofar as Solas is willing to show) in that moment, but it's exactly the same even if he hates you, apparently.

And for some reason, Solas doing it is completely fine in the eyes of some people, but Corypheus must be stopped.
Because darkspawn and Magisterial = what we have been conditioned to dislike since Origin. Elves being treated poorly has also been shown plenty, so that probably has a lot to do with it. I love Solas simply because he is a complicated character, but I'd gladly choose Nathaniel Howe for a complicated guy any day.
"I intend to restore them. Doing so will most likely destroy your world" Pretty heavily implied that he needs to be stopped.
The fact of the matter is that zealotry is shown multiple times throughout the DA series, and it's never good. The Architect was a darkspawn and one of the mages that made it to the black city, but he was articulate and had what some people considered a noble purpose, so much so that they let him live. Corypheus on the other hand is a zealot trying to destroy the world by basically doing the same thing that Solas is doing. Not good. So when you say that Corypheus is 'worse' than Solas, that's blatantly inaccurate. Just because the old Tevinter Imperium has been shown to be a more tyranical society doesn't change the fact that Solas thought the original elves were destructive or flawed enough that they needed to be eliminated. Furthermore, which society is 'better' is irrelevant in the face of mass genocide. Solas is easily just as bad, if not worth than Coryphytits.

RuSosan I don't like his plan either but thats the charm. He has a monstrous plan but he takes no joy of completing it. You have to put yourself in his position. He wanted to save his people but in the end he basicly doomed them. The elves have a terrible life in Thedas and its all because of him. They get killed, they get enslaved, they get raped, they get assimilated.The elves are a shattered race. He blames himself for this as he should. His goal is not to kill all living things in the world. His goal is to give the elves a home of their own to ensure their survival as a race. Sadly the only way of doing this is to greatly weaken the other races. Humans will never allow the elves to have a home of their own. If you led the human race to near extinction wont you do anything in your power to save your own race? I would. Any inteligent being should care for their own people. Solas doesn't want to do this. He is sadened and you could even say disgusted of himself for trying to do this. From the time being with him in Skyhold you should have learned that he doesn't like murder, violence and injustice. At the end you basicly tell him that you will try to stop him. Solas is no fool. He knows what the Inquisitor is capable of. Solas had two opportunities to easily kill the Inquisitor.The first one: by turning him into stone with ease and the second: BY DOING NOTHING and let the Mark do the rest. What does Solas do? He saves the Inquisitor even if their relationship is really bad. Solas saved his greatest enemy...

I agree completely with your point, I just hope it wont come down to killing him. It's not to late for redemption...but it is getting pretty darn close. I mean, all over Thedas elves are now disappearing and with word that they're being led by the dread wolf...other races will see this as a threat. That is a definite. What will happen to the elves even if Solas fails to complete his plan? They have had a taste of rebellion now, they wont want to simply return to the way things were. However, the same could be said for the mage/Templar war. In my playthough of Inquistion I made it so the mages could be free to govern themselves. Perhaps a similar outcome may arise in the new Dragon age game in the future for the elves if we manage to save Solas from himself.
...Bioware has a habbit of getting me way too invested into these games. I'm personally going to put all my focus into Mass Effect Andromeda for a while so I can shake the anticipation for the next DA game xD

The alternative is to be upset that Solas undermined your power fantasy and do irrational things (such as not doing what you were supposed to be there to do).
I'm so used to seeing the meeting with Lavellan and it's usually super long because it's super emotional and here this is, this beautiful thing that I can't help but laugh at. Solas is one of my favorite characters but if gaining his disapproval means I get this ending, I will do it and laugh for a long time after, which will be a nice change from crying when I play this part.

as for reapers, their main problem was not synthetics, it was their belief about humans. basically they wanted earth to remain under their unnoticed control. humans gone too far and they didn't like their evolution so they decided to wipe them.
also villains shouldn't always be scary. Solas is one the few villains in video games that you actually have a connection with that you experienced through the game. making it more personal.

Reapers are simply employing crop rotation because under AI logic that makes sense - hence the name. Reaper. Collector. Harbinger. They're all synonyms of Farmer. And for the record, they aren't protecting the Milky Way from unspecified synthethics, they are protecting it from a known pure synthetic race that exists beyond it and would kill everything regardless of societal advancement. Reapers protect (the far larger number of) primitive life from the dangers of what lies outside the milky way by killing advanced life that may unearth the means to leave it. Yeah. This ties into ME:Andromeda. The Leviathans forgot to tell Catalyst to prioritise the wellbeing of sentients. It's simply an exposed flaw in Asimov's 0th Law. Bugs me so much that people make uneducated assumptions and use them as justification that the writing is bad. No. The only fault here is your own for failing to notice that Beings of Light theory was BIOWARE CONFIRMED via twitter.
As for Solas. He thinks everyone isn't exactly real and therefore doesn't care what happens to them. Simple as that. In his mind he is killing virtual people to resurrect real people.

A very late reply, but I think the point is that even after treating Solas badly, he still helps the inquisitor by giving him more time.
The violins should have started playing faster.
This is oddly satisfying; I like Solas as a character/villain but my canon Inquisitor definitely felt betrayed by him in the end, and would have chosen this if she wasn't so curious and wanting to understand why. I love his quick summary. With the "I suspect you have questions" line coming back in DA4 teasers I hope the next protagonist gets a similar option to be like "I don't really care for your villain monologue".

The fact that Solas is initially kind and courteous to you no matter how badly you've treated him really just cements how great a character he is... it's gonna hurt needing to kill him in DA4.
I don’t know if I could. He’s always my go-to romance (I love heartbreak, apparently). Like I literally have to play a male inquisitor or a non-elf race to avoid falling into that romance for the umpteenth time 🙃
Solas is a good character because even if he has his fangirls, he also has a decent chunk of people who would gladly kill him.
Eh, they might leave it open to convince him to just not do his thing (at least the Inquisition choices imply so). I'm not looking forward to killing endless amounts of 'evil' elven agents tho...

If you play inquisition with your inquisitor on the good side of Solas and then work the conversation so that eventually it turns the inquisitor against him you get a better scene and you get to see Solas real nature. I played it this way and finally my inquisitor tells him he will stop him. Solas is exactly what he says he's not. Arrogant and blind. He fought for the elves freedom but he was never one of them. Freedom cannot be won for someone it can only be fought and won by the group who is enslaved. Look at human history. Return of the elves I wonder where that would lead beyond the destruction of the world. On the next game I plan on killing him no matter what who cares how sorry he is. Kind of think I'm fighting for everything down to a single blade of grass because Solas believes everything's done everyone must go. True it Solas who created the veil which contributed the world my inquisitor lives but that certainly dosnt give the supreme right to destroy it because he says so.

Solas perceives the world to be an unnatural construct. A mistake, if you will. That's what makes him so justified, "it's like leaving milk out and forgetting to throw it away and you realize that life is developing in the milk". To Solas, the world was infinitely much better in the past, he made a mistake, and now he's trying to correct it. Researching his lore, he's such a tragic hero that he becomes the villain and I especially love how Varric says "The best villains are the one's that were standing next to the hero all along, and are equally justified by their cause". I can't wait till DA: 4...

Occasionally BioWare slips in some content that only a few people see based on what character they choose like in Mass Effect you get a Paragon interrupt based on being an engineer.

Damn, Solas is even more complex and interesting than I though. Almost makes me want to start over as a female elf just for the plot.
Solas never approved anything I’ve ever done in the game but I still got a good ending with him. I suppose we had a mutual respect going on hahaha.

I am probably in the minority, but I loved Solas story and even if it was short it was my favorit romance, and I will have a horrible flashback to Thane if they "force" us to watch Solas die as well...Gah! just the thought makes steam come out of my ears lol

It’s amusing that a lot of people here act as if Solas is doing something that humans would not do. I’m sure if it was the other way around humans would create the veil to end the elves from enslaving them. At the end of the day this is a my people vs yours kind of situation and no one would sacrifice their peoples safety and future for another that enslaves them. If you read the books and other materials played the city elf origin in DA O you can understand what the elves face under the rule of humans. How can he the one who caused this trying to save them simply sit by and watch. He is suffering through guilt because this is his fault and he needs to make it right. If him and the inquisitor are friends he encourages them to find an alternative because he can’t and this is the only answer he has.
Not even just about saving the elves but saving the wonder of what should be. The veil didn’t just end the elves but also ruined the fade and is the probable cause of the demon issues. With no veil they spirits probably didn’t have the same lack of understanding and any need to possess and with them being a normal part of the world the elves wouldn’t have twisted them like those stupid mages Solas kills for corrupting his friend.
