So What? Why do Black focus so much on where people are from, who invented what, Black History from 1000's of years ago. TIME WASTED!!!! You should be concerned about the highest STD rates in the country, the demonic music you listen to, the Rap hero's you worship, the deletion of your women on mass scale by your males, the violent crime in your neighborhoods, the domestic violence on your women & children, the absentee fathers, and the lack of child support. Also, the failure of rich Black people to invest in needed services in your communities such as, grocery stores, small business's (not barber shops & hair solons), restaurants, auto repair shops, doctors, banks and on and on. You are the only group of people that focus on the who and what the ANCESTORS did, and not focus on the present and future of your communities. Real successful societies work for the present not the past.

We have to stop boxing ourselves as Afro-Latino, Mesztizos etc..now it's this ridiculous LatinX 🙄 Somos Latinos no matter what our skin complexion is and Lazaro along with all the idiots that want to go by Afro-Latino need to be proud of their Latino heritage and stop boxing themselves or separating themselves from who they are.

@@XFiorentti it’s not that simple when your own culture discriminates against you. Ex. In Puerto Rico you have los jibaros, los Indios y los negros yet they are all Latin. Latin people are just as prejudice as any other race. They only accept you when they learn you are one of them. In America you have the Whites and the Blacks. All the heritages are embraced as white except for the blacks. In America if you are brown automatically you are black and will be treated as such. What Mr. Alonzo was trying to say is that when you look at him before you know his name, heritage or anything else, sight unseen or heard he is perceived to be black. He has embraced being black because he was born and raised in Washington, DC and went to college at Howard University where it’s obvious by his explanation that he took African American Studies. Which explains that there really is no difference between an American Black or a Latin black (class wise). The only thing is where the slave ships landed first some went first to the Caribbean then to the United States. Others went to Mexico and Europe. But no matter where they land they were all treated the same-less than.

The problem I have with people like the girl speaking first is that they are very selective. When they say “black” they mean Americans who are black and speak English. The vast majority of black people that were brought into the new world are not in the US, they are in south america, in Brazil. The majority of black people in the americas aren’t in the US, they are in Brazil and they speak Portuguese. Ive seen even a rejection of actual Africans from Africa because they are not Americans and a lot of them don’t speak English.

The same way my culture does not align with a Nigerian’s culture even though we have the same skin tone. I think that what Melyssa and other black Americans mean when they say “you’re not black” they are not talking about skin tone, they are talking about culture in which they refer to it as “black”

People need to understand that black race is a socially constructed term and it cannot be biologically determined. There is nothing in us that genetically determines one’s race. I don’t think it’s the fact that Afro Latinas do not want to identify with being black but it’s more about the fact they identify with ethnicity and nationality more so than race. I’m Belizean and we don’t identify ourselves as race either. We identify ourselves based on our ethnic group and that has to do more with our ethnicity and nationality. Our nationality is Belizean but each of us have an ethnicity group that we identify with. There is a part of the Belizean culture and practices that is influenced by both African ancestors and mestizos and Mayans. People try to make things more complex than it already when it’s not necessary. America is the only place where they try to Identify everyone as black or white. If you go to Africa you don’t here African says I’m black. They will say I’m Kenyan, I’m Ethiopian, I’m west African and so on and so on.

    • @0m09ja

Sure. But in the American context, which Laz is in, you're black if you have African heritage. And this is coming from a Nigerian who is well aware of his ethnic group and culture. I'm all those things (African, Nigerian, Yoruba)...and I'm Black. Even though we have differences in culture, I have many shared experiences with people of African descent, whether they live in Belize, the U.S., Cuba, or Jamaica. When I went to Belize, Black people treated me like I was one of them and let me know that they accepted me as a Black brother.

She prefers to see perspectives from a tunnel vision. It doesn't make her right or wrong, just stubborn. Many Afro-Latinos deny not just their African origins but also their Native American origins. Look at someone who is most likely 100% Native American from, let say, Arizona or New Mexico and then compare someone from Mexico, Guatemala, Peru or Ecuador or Bolivia..Are there major biological differences?
What Laz is say is partly contradictory. Many Afro Cubans do not see themselves as Black. I am sure he knows this. The part of those who have a colonized mindset, I agree with this view.
Then, we have many people of African origins who don't, unfortunately, recognize that there are cultural differences. It doesn't negate the fact that they are of African origins but there experiences have been very different. They have their common denominators, history that they do share but also histories they do not.

It always amazes me how almost every white person I know can sprout off multiple cultures and or ethnicities they belong to..."I'm Scottish, Dutch, half Italian and Swedish". But if you have African roots, the only thing you can claim is black, black is not a culture and what is considered black culture in the United States is really watered down Eurocentric culture. Heaven forbid if a person is black but also Italian, Irish or Scandinavian, etc. you're not allowed to embrace all of who you are just the black parts.

Godzilla Megatron You should be law abiding when a cop approaches you and you shouldn't be a wuss.If the cop asks you to do something that isn't lawful you have the right to refuse.A cop has no right to be physical with you because you're mouthing off;a cop also has a mouth that they can use to mouth off too. These cops aren't your parents/older family members.Cops usually understand this don't get physical unless someone gets physical with you rule when it comes to them dealing with white people.
