  • How I made a recirculating, internal heater for a plastic tub enclosure to keep our family ball python warm and cozy. The result is less expensive than heat lamps and uses far less power.
    Parts used:
    24V PTC Electric Fan Heater

    Noctua NF-A6x25 FLX
    amzn.to/3QbxcTL
    9V 3A Power Supply

    This is genius for anyone living in a colder climate and doesnt have a dedicated snake room. Thank you for this!

    This is great.
    I think I’m going to try this.
    But I’m going for around 80 degrees ambient temperature.
    Then a hotspot of 90 degrees.
    Thank you for sharing this.

      I also made a video using similar parts to make a much hotter enclosure for a different purpose. The fan in that one is too loud for a snake, but you might want to look into the stronger heat element. ua-cam.com/video/44sO8LTEZ-0/v-deo.html

    This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for. Would you be willing to custom make one and ship it?

    Do you by any chance make and sell the 3D printed box that the unit goes in? Perfect idea! I love this great idea.

      @@croftadreanna The link to the housing design on Tinkercad is in the description. From there, you can export the stl file you need to have the box printed.

    Props for the Noctua fan. I will be trying this in a new enclosure build
    Why not run a potentiometer instead of a resistor so you would have control over the air flow as needed. Would be beneficial for seasonal changes of desired

    I mght use for my 3d printing chamber, keeping the area hot, helps with warping

      good idea. You might be able to use the stock fan for that if the noise level is acceptable. I may use one to make a filament dryer.

    I'm pretty inexperienced with electric engineering but recently I've been thinking of making something like this. I was wondering though, if you have the whole unit turn of when it reaches its target temperature, then why do you under-power the heater and not just let it go at full strength? Wouldn't that make it heat up faster and have it be on for less time? Sorry if this is a dumb question

    • @mightystudiosvids
      @mightystudiosvids  11 місяців тому +1

      Not a dumb question at all. Since it's in a plastic holder and a plastic tub, I wanted to keep the temperature of the heat element as low as possible. Just hot enough to get the job done. It could probably run hotter and be fine, but I'm being extra careful.

      The tub? We drilled holes through the lid and the sides of the tub and use spring clips to lock them together. You can see the clips around time 3:24 in the video

    Do you have any options if you don't have a 3d printer? Looking around it is hard to find material like you suggested when dealing with heat.

    • @mightystudiosvids
      @mightystudiosvids  Рік тому

      Sorry, no. You'd have to find something to place the heat element in that was safe for the snake and your tub.

    what kind if infrared rays are emitted by the heater? different kinds penetrate tissue differently and are more/less efficient at heating reptiles properly

    • @mightystudiosvids
      @mightystudiosvids  Рік тому

      I'm not aware of the ceramic PTC heat elements having any infrared capabilities

    • @ztwentyfivez25
      @ztwentyfivez25 11 місяців тому

      @@mightystudiosvids if it is at all similar to other kinds of ceramic heaters, it will produce infrared waves that fully aren't able to properly penetrate the layers of skin and tissue leading to an improperly heated animal. This may be heating the local environment but not necessarily the animal. All heat is infrared waves.
