This song is powerful. It shows us how Phoses is blinded by stubbornness and pride by being called the weak link, making Phoses being heartless to the Hebrews following in his fathers footsteps. Moses realizing his past, knowing what they did to his people made him open his eyes and he knew he had to leave. Moses knew he had to return back so he can free his people, but Phoses having pride in himself, he didn't let the Hebrews go. It shows us how far God would go just to free his people by sending plaques, darkness into the town and making the spirits take the soul of the children who doesn't have blood painted on their door. Phoses then opened his eyes and let Moses people go.
Thus saith the Lord: Since you refuse to free my people All through the land of Egypt... I send a pestilence and plague Into your house, into your bed Into your streams, into your streets Into your drink, into your bread Upon your cattle, on your sheep Upon your oxen in your field Into your dreams, into your sleep Until you break, until you yield I send the swarm, I send the horde Thus saith the Lord [Moses] Once I called you brother Once I thought the chance to make you laugh Was all I ever wanted... I send the thunder from the sky I send the fire raining down [Moses] And even now I wish that God had chose another Serving s your foe on his behalf Is the last thing that I wanted... [Chorus] I send a hail of burning ice On ev'ry field, on ev'ry town [Moses] This was my home All this pain and devastation How it tortures me inside All the innocent who suffer From your stubbornness and pride... [Chorus] I send the locusts on a wind Such as the world has never seen On ev'ry leaf, on ev'ry stalk Until there's nothing left of green I send my scourge, I send my sword Thus saith the Lord! [Moses] You who I called brother Why must you call down another blow? [Chorus] I send my scourge, I send my sword [Moses] Let my people go! [Moses and Chorus] Thus saith the Lord! [Rameses] You who I called brother How could you have come to hate me so? Is this what you wanted? [Chorus] I send the swarm, I send the horde... [Rameses] Then let my heart be hardened And never mind how high the cost may grow This will still be so: I will never let your people go... [Chorus] Thus saith the Lord: [Moses] Thus saith the Lord: [Rameses] I will not... [Moses, Rameses, and Chorus] Let your/my people go!
THUS SAITH THE LORD is so final. I am not particularly religious, though I was when I was younger. But this song hits hard. Ramses so stubborn and defiant. Wow. I can't believe I have never seen this movie. By the time this came out I guess I was over animated stuff.
This just really highlights what a villain God is in the bible. He hardens the Pharaoh's heart and then he tortures and kills Egyptian civilians when the hard-hearted Pharaoh won't give way.
@@Vindsus86 Rameses was stubborn and defiant because he believed himself to be chief of the gods. And suffered a severe military defeat at the hands of the Hittites, which he proceeded to go on a massive building campaign to, literally, whitewash the defeat and created it as a "glorious victory for the Egyptian God Rameses, the bright and morning star." (And now you know why Jesus Christ had snatched that little self-title from Pharaoh's lips.) Pharaoh's pride refused the request from the beginning, thus did God send His response, and hardened Pharaoh's heart as a lesson. But you realize God had only done this 'once' yes? Specifically after the 6th Plague. Which led to the 7th plague. This one was headed by the people of Egypt, those who took sheltered from the storm(hail storm) would be spared, those who did not head the Word of God, would be smitten to death in the fields. Those who heard Moses tell this to Pharaoh set messengers to others, and became a personal decision "Do I believe Moses? Do I shelter? Or do I continue to believe in the God-King Rameses II?" Those who refused, perished. This is the passage that people go "Who's the real villain?" Pharaoh is. God presented 5 cases prior for Rameses to repent and be forgiven, all he had to do was humble himself. (This meant admitting that he is not a god, and that YHWH is greater. This broke Rameses already wounded pride from the failed Hittite campaign 5 years prior.) If you're going to try and insult the book, make sure you actually know what's written.

Yes, I commented on another of your comments, but why go into the comments and start up with your opinions in the first place? Please reread the Bible, namely from the chapters of Joseph (the King of Dreams) up until Moses' birth. You'll see that God wasn't being a big meanie or just punishing people for no reason. The Isrealites became too numerous for Ramses I and he enslaved them. Right off the bat, you attacked God's chosen people. So, how do you react to someone taking your child? Rainbows and glitter? No, torture and death to those who harm your kids. Same goes with God. If you hurt His chosen people, there are consequences. They did. Joseph King of Dreams is a prequel, the story of Joseph is how the Children of Israel end up in Egypt, made with the same animation style. It's not quite as musically epic as Prince of Egypt, but it's still a good watch.
@@luispalao7418 True, though Sampsons story ends on a realy harsh downbeat. Whereas Joseph King of Dreams and The Prince of Egypt are both epics, Simpsons story would be a tragedy. It would have been interesting to see how DreamWorks handled that.

Something I really like about this song, is the fact that the chorus is god speaking, I think it's a cool detail as he's many voices and it seems only Moses is able to hear it.
This for me was the saddest n most heart breaking in the movie .how Moses love and adored his adopted parents and his brother whom he love so much n wished God chose another to serve as the foe to his brother n his former nation..cos it was his own home he grew up with everyone around and knows everyone of them ..personally and seeing them suffer and their children(first born died) and in agony and how much it kills him inside but he has also received a Duty from God . I can hardly imagine how much it must have been for them both after all we can never deny our emotions though we have our own duty to attend to. I always felt so sorry for them both
Fun fact, the movie is directed by the same guy that directed An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, We're Back: A Dinosaur Story, and Balto. Kinda funny how the director progressed his work during the 90's.
Absolutely. His look of profound sadness at 1:34 as He watches His brother continue to needlessly cause himself and so many innocent people so much suffering and abatement says it all. He takes no joy in this, but is also a devoted Servant and Protector of His people so He has to perform this duty.

Even as a Muslim I admire it, the animation and storytelling is beautiful and I teared up just thinking of the hardwork that went into it honestly. Hate the company, but adore the skills and it's a shame how far DreamWorks has fallen.
“And even now, I wish that god had chose another; serving as your foe on his behalf is the last thing that I wanted! This was my home. All this pain and devastation, how it tortures me inside. All the innocent who suffer from your stubbornness and pride!” I really love these two verses, they really portray that at the end of the day even though Moses was chosen by his god (im not religious don’t attack me) he was still a normal person that was forced against his brother. In comparison to how much he looks up to him in the beginning of the film to these verses, it just proves the excellence in the directors choice of character development.

I think that was exactly the point. At this point, God was warning the arrogant, cruel Pharaoh that He would stop at nothing to save His people. The plagues were His wrath outpoured on Egypt and its idolatry, each plague specifically attacking the Egyptian gods going all the way up to Pharaoh himself.

@sir dog shit Abrahamic to be more accurate
The origin story is from the Jewish torah (the old testament) but Islam and Christianity believe that too . (It happend around 1213-1279 BC)
God doesn’t control humans, but through Moses, he didn’t hold back for his chosen people.
His name is Ramses
This film is a cinematic masterpiece
“Once I thought the chance to make you laugh was all I ever wanted.” Oh, I am in shambles. 😭💔
Thus saith the Lord:
Since you refuse to free my people
All through the land of Egypt...
I send a pestilence and plague
Into your house, into your bed
Into your streams, into your streets
Into your drink, into your bread
Upon your cattle, on your sheep
Upon your oxen in your field
Into your dreams, into your sleep
Until you break, until you yield
I send the swarm, I send the horde
Thus saith the Lord
[Moses]
Once I called you brother
Once I thought the chance
to make you laugh
Was all I ever wanted...
I send the thunder from the sky
I send the fire raining down
[Moses]
And even now I wish that God
had chose another
Serving s your foe on his behalf
Is the last thing that I wanted...
[Chorus]
I send a hail of burning ice
On ev'ry field, on ev'ry town
[Moses]
This was my home
All this pain and devastation
How it tortures me inside
All the innocent who suffer
From your stubbornness and pride...
[Chorus]
I send the locusts on a wind
Such as the world has never seen
On ev'ry leaf, on ev'ry stalk
Until there's nothing left of green
I send my scourge, I send my sword
Thus saith the Lord!
[Moses]
You who I called brother
Why must you call down another blow?
[Chorus]
I send my scourge, I send my sword
[Moses]
Let my people go!
[Moses and Chorus]
Thus saith the Lord!
[Rameses]
You who I called brother
How could you have come to hate me so?
Is this what you wanted?
[Chorus]
I send the swarm, I send the horde...
[Rameses]
Then let my heart be hardened
And never mind how high the cost may grow
This will still be so:
I will never let your people go...
[Chorus]
Thus saith the Lord:
[Moses]
Thus saith the Lord:
[Rameses]
I will not...
[Moses, Rameses, and Chorus]
Let your/my people go!

THUS SAITH THE LORD is so final. I am not particularly religious, though I was when I was younger. But this song hits hard. Ramses so stubborn and defiant. Wow. I can't believe I have never seen this movie. By the time this came out I guess I was over animated stuff.
@@KM-ql4eb Ramses was stubborn and defiant because God hardened his heart though. 😬
And suffered a severe military defeat at the hands of the Hittites, which he proceeded to go on a massive building campaign to, literally, whitewash the defeat and created it as a "glorious victory for the Egyptian God Rameses, the bright and morning star." (And now you know why Jesus Christ had snatched that little self-title from Pharaoh's lips.)
Pharaoh's pride refused the request from the beginning, thus did God send His response, and hardened Pharaoh's heart as a lesson.
This broke Rameses already wounded pride from the failed Hittite campaign 5 years prior.)
If you're going to try and insult the book, make sure you actually know what's written.

@@Vindsus86if God bothers you so much, don't you think you should try, I don't know, TALKING TO HIM? Blasphemy is nothing more than the enemy sewing seeds of hate towards God, and you've been allowing the vines to grow with hate and dissent. If you choose to speak to Him, and actually try to listen, I'm pretty positive you would hear from Him.
