I'm looking for help from viewers if you're interested. I'm making a video on customer feedback on the 2019 Corolla Hatchback. If you've seen one in person and/or test driven it, I'd love your feedback. If you have an iPhone, you can record 10 seconds to 1 minute video of yourself talking about it and text it to me....If anyone is interested, I'll pass along the number....YOU CAN BE IN ONE OF MY VIDEOS..Jeff
Toyotajeff in Raleigh bad fec👎
test driven.... it's a fun car for the price although it isn't fast it feels fast for how little power it has(XSE)
OH AND SCREW THE SPEED LIMIT NOTICE GEEZ THAT GETS ANNOYING
Could you please make a video of acceleration? I wish to see it because it won't be 2,0 petrol in my country
I like that idea A LOT! please subscribe and make sure to follow along for updates. I love working with your ideas...jeff
Lookssssss so much better than the Civic Hatchback idk what Honda designers were thinking
I wonder what Honda thinks about this being released.....jeff
Civic like a toy
Hondas were way ahead of their time when they released I remember seeing them for the first time I couldn't believe they were hondas and there wasn't any other car as good looking as those hatchbacks at the time. Now of course competition is coming in but honda already did it's job. And also I think the new accord looks really good it stands up there with the Camry
Civic still looks better
@@ChrisRestores Maybe only the front end, but the rest of the civic kinda looks like a giant cockroach. This Toyota front end is kinda big, but the rest of the body looks like a real hatch !
For me I'd opt for the SE trim with manual, save money and not really losing much from the gimmicky of xse as compared to Honda hatchback LX vs Sport trims where there is major difference. Toyota has a winner here!
Japan has this car in 4WD and in hybrid.
That's pretty wild they have this in 4WD and in hybrid....the hybrid not so surprising, as smaller cars and gas mileage are crucial overseas.....the 4WD is surprising to me though....I wonder how it sells...thanks for the feedback and please keep watching and commenting...Jeff
Toyotajeff in Raleigh the car goes on sale next month and only expecting to sell like 3K. The market is outside Japan. They have two different engines, 1.8(gasoline and electric motor for 120HP) and 1.2 turbo for 114HP with 4WD and cvt. They also have option for really nice seats!USDM has the bigger engine with more power.
I like hearing about cars in different countries....I visited Germany this spring and made sure I stopped at a German Toyota dealer....ua-cam.com/video/LLifWhfg5U4/v-deo.html
Note: I may have overlooked a couple of features that are different.....I'll address those in the comments as soon as I learn more about them!
I really like your enthusiasm and good attitude man, keep bein joyful
thank you Jeff! I appreciate you taking the time and showing us what this car is capable of. Im interested in buying it since I'm a student! lol
Excellent information that you gave appreciate it so much I’m actually in the market for one of these cars thanks a lot it really helps
Great video. Really lays out the differences in a clear and understandable way. If I were a Salesman, I'd show this video to potential customers so they could decide which model they'd want.
Clearly, the XSE is nicer. But both cars have the same engine and transmission. There's nothing on the XSE that would cause me to pay a huge premium for that model. Now, if the XSE had a sunroof, that would be very tempting.
Exactly what I wanted to see! Thank You!!!
very good stuff man, Amazing Review.
It is a few years since you made this video but I just bought a used 2019 XSE and love it. Was not easy to find one. I have the automatic.
Great video! Excited to see how the next gen sedan turns out. I’m ready to buy a car next year!
I'm curious too but "The Hatch" is giving me hope!
Great video. Appreciate the information!
Thank you and I like your review.
This Corolla looks awesome especially the back, look so sporty. Can't wait for it to reach my region. Please make it faster Toyota.
Nice comparison. Good job.
You are great man. Thank you!!!
Amazing...this is hatchback of the year...👍👍👍👍
i’m actually starting to like this new design theme that toyota is going with all their 2018/19 vehicles. i wasn’t a fan at first, but now i’m a fan.
Great compare video!
Appreciate the props! Thanks for watching and I'll try to keep the video pipeline going strong here....jeff
Nice video man
Excellent video!
Got one of these a couple of weeks ago just like yours...blizzard pearl XSE with manual (no spoiler though). Love the car. Handles very well; 6 speed is fantastic, love the rev matching and all the safety features! I've only driven it 200 miles so far but overall I love the car; the road noise on the highway is more than I would like but otherwise I think it's great. It is a *small* car; much smaller than my previous Accord but you don't feel it in the front seats. Back seats are a little cramped but doable. Trunk is small but with the seats down is quite roomy for cargo. I opted for the XSE for a number of reasons, not the least of which was that the Entune 3.0 plus also includes an HD radio, which I really wanted.
very helpful.thanks for the video
I don't know why but I like the manual adjust for the driver. It's so much faster when you want to recline and then get back up to drive.
Can’t wait to buy one in the future.
I just got me a 2018 Camry and I love my new car!
Finally a modern corolla
As they say, this isn't your grandpa's Corolla anymore!

What's your favorite trim level....SE or XSE? What about the automatic vs. manual?
Toyotajeff in Raleigh XSE with the manual!
Toyotajeff in Raleigh Why do some automakers put fake equipment on cars and think people won't notice or care? Hate that! Love all the XSE options except for : Dont like the 18" tires and wish the wheels were SE size but XSE design. Don't like the chrome around the front grill. Hate chrome, the 60's where over long time ago. Not yet sure about the fog lights. I like them but dont think they look right where they are. Have to say the CVT because I like the shift paddles on the steering wheel and the blind spot option, even though I dont trust the CVT. That's my ideal best Corolla ever! Forgot, don't like the fact there is no android play.
Great video Jeff! My personal preference would be the XSE but preferably with the CVT over the 6 speed manual. PS, I can drive a 13 speed manual transmission in a semi, however I would prefer the CVT for my car. Mark in Iowa.
Mark thanks for your comments.....that's a special life skill to drive semi! I'd be worried I would hit signs and poles when I'm turning at an intersection haha......have a great day! jeff
Great observations M! I like the paddle shifters too! I'd get a car with blind spot monitor all the time from now now (I have it on my silver 2018 Camry XLE) ... have a great day!
So glad I came across this. I've been trying to figure out which version I have as I'm prepping to sell mine, all the sites I come across are so vague about them. One will say that the 7in screen determines it is XSE, but that cloth seats mean its SE. I have both of these. This was really helpful. Thank you!
look up the vin........
@@exi9164 I did, the problem was it was coming back as both.
@@lou3932 oh, well thats really weird
You forgot to mention that the cvt has a launch gear. very important. I drove one and was very impressed.
Dude yes!!! Very good CVT for sure. Good quick take off! 🚗 💨
Great video, thank you. You didn't say anything about audio system. No mention about it in other recent reviews either. Are there different options in Canada and US?
Did a great job
Thx
Got to test drive a SE version with the CVT really fun car! Cant wait to own one soon
It IS fun to drive, isn't it? I'm really enjoying reviewing this new one so far....I wonder what other Hatchback topics I'll come up with this coming up month.......jeff
I'm making a video on customer feedback about the '19 Corolla Hatchback.....from just looking it over to driving it.....if you have an iPhone, would you have any interest in recording yourself for 30 seconds to 2 minutes....with your impressions of the car and the drive? It doesn't have to be perfect....you can send it to me by cell....Jeff
Good review 👌👍
You the Best!! Thank you!!
If I could I would buy two of them like the ones on the Thumbnail one white and one gray both in XSE Trim Gorgeous !
That motor and the Manual Trans is the only reason I am considering this car now. And I like the look. When I'm ready to buy again I have to choose, this or a Tacoma.
Great comparison review of both models! I though the rear spolier was standard on the XSE?
Nope it's not standard.....look for it as a $399 option on both trim levels....I hope people don't make that mistake and get one without thinking it would be there...I'm here to help! Jeff
I love! Love! The XSE automatic! The styling is awesome! 🙂❤️👍
Ricky Pagod yeah I drove the XSE for a couple days last week...it drives so great too!!
Toyotajeff in Raleigh my wife and I are looking into getting into a new vehicle and when I heard that Toyota was coming out with a Corolla Hatchback, I was geeked! The gas mileage and the extra space for cargo in the back is a huge plus! Can’t wait to getting into one. 🙂❤️👍
This may be my next car when my ‘03 Accord wears out.
Another great video . well done sir . Great comparison , Just one extra note to be added . you could get " blind spot monitoring " on SE version if you would buy optional package which is almost 1500 $ extra to the base SE and it has to be on CVT transmission of SE . ( optional upgrade( blind spot monitoring ) is NOT available on "manual transmission " version of SE ) , sorry ..... Also you could ONLY get 800 watt sound system( JBL ) and wireless charge feature on XSE 'optional package" which is another 1600 $ ..... So to summarize : The full and complete car can be made ONLY on XSE which is costing you almost 27,500 dollars .
My left ear enjoyed this video.
hi Jeff, great review. What's ground clearance on both trim levels??
enough
I got the se with cvt. Zippy lil car and sexy too! Kinda sad that the hatch is smaller than the trunk on my 2017 accord lol it's all good though because I've always wanted a hatch 😍
It's a real winner.. A Game changer ... Nice Toyota hatchback
Truly love this Corolla
Would you go for the SE or the XSE? Jeff
definitely the XSE. In South Africa, we have to wait till next year though but I think it's worth the wait
great one on one vid. i am looking at a'21 se. i refuse to need heated seats, dual zone this and that as grew up in wis rear fake muffler looks cheesy to some, sound good to me. also, did you mention the se comes with manual option also?
Good Job!
Very nice car! Glad Toyota brought it to the US!
In my local dealer they have 5 in stock. 3 SE with a couple of options for 22,800 and 2 xse for 25,150. For me 2.5k for the higher trim is totally worth it.
I have been waiting for corolla to come back ,they have improved, but if they had the 200hp and RWD! We will all buy it . Especially me!
XSE all the way.. pearl white is the bomb
yeah the blizzard pearl white looks incredible on this car....especially in the bright sun...my videos can't possibly do it justice vs the real thing....
MainmanMademan big Fan i like silver too
I remember my first tc was a special edition and it had the Blizzard pearl. at night the pearl looked amazing
Not gonna lie good info. I own the SE hatcback. Really fun car
Good job
Thanks so much for the comparison. I’m a lifelong Honda owner but I’m leaning toward the Corolla hatchback as a replacement. Sorry, Honda. You seem like an honest person, unlike dealers in the NY area.
Love the video thank :) but I have a question, did it have an ECO MODE? I saw that it have Sport Mode but in the toyota website it said it have ECOMODE :( i did not see it :( do the XSE have it instead of the SE? Please I need to know.
If you reviewed the 2020 models, would there be any differences? Also, do the 2020 hatchbacks have a spare tire?
2017 Honda Civic Hatchback EX vs 2018 Honda Accord Sport vs 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback XSE
Which do people prefer?
Thanks for showing the rear cargo area with the seats down. So many car videos skip that very important hatchback feature. What is this "manual speed" thing you kept referring to? A six speed manual transmission, perhaps?
are vee Thanks for the compliment? I try to be comprehensive with all my videos :) Yes the manual speed I refer to is the six-speed manual transmission. Growing up in Michigan, we called it manual speed. It’s a habit lol
@@Toyotajeff Yeah, the rest of the country just calls it a "manual" lol
I am thinking of the new Corolla for my first official car to drive once it would be released in Australia.
you know what else helps when making a decision? Knowing the price of each one.
Google
a simple google search will give you that answer
XSE Seems to be more to my liking. Honestly looking at newer cars this year, the Corolla Hatchback is not only affordable, but comfortable looking, and a fun car to drive. Honda may have functions on their civic, but Toyota brought the game on look and practicality. Love it.
I wish it had a sunroof and it was one tone color on the sits. I have 2 kids and all black leather interior really helps having the color looking clean.
Any idea when they'll announce a sedan version? Hopefully it comes with a sunroof or pano
It looked like the xse had additional sound reduction material under the hood that the se did not have is that correct?
You're absolutely correct Brad! I didn't even catch that when I was doing the video haha....I'll have to research it and I'll write what I find out from Toyota...Jeff
Great observation Brad . thank you for pointing out ( very keen eyes )
Or they forgot to install it! lol
Yeah,I think they forgot to install that heat insulation pad at the factory!
Toyotajeff in Raleigh It may not be more quiet since the extra insulation might be to compensate for the 18 inch wheel.
Got my sub 👍... that Soup Nazi reference was gold! Lol!
Thank you soo much for this video 👍👍 keep it up!
You forgot to mention the black inserts underneath the hood on the XSE trim, maybe that is for sound reduction? Good video nonetheless! 4:00
Thank you
I hope you had a cold brewski after that hot shot;) another great perk of hatchback; it’s entirely made in Japan where sedan is made in the US
Need the Touring(wagon) ASAP
Thanks Jeff, I noticed some under hood sound deadening on the XSE that is not on the SE. Is there any additional sound deadening in the XSE, perhaps on the under body or in the doors that is not in the SE?
I wonder if Toyota service would just slap the insulation under the hood of the SE for maybe 100
@@roadwarrior280 you don't need it on the SE. The XSE is much louder due to the thin sidewalls on the tires wrapped around those 18" wheels.
Ethan Noel drove the SE. Loud on hard acceleration for me. RAV 4 way too loud. WTF. Also making the rooflines a bit low. Easy to smack your head.Test drove a Kona. May buy it
@@roadwarrior280 please be happy
Bought one 2 weeks ago. I got SE. Few things I would have like XSE would be the upgrade gauge display, seating is big, im 6' with some lower back issues, i dont feel confined. Auto trans' still fun to drive. You cannot change all setting while driving, dont understand why i cant change eco set while driveing to normal..( has eco, normal sport) but you can do sport with either one...same with settings on the radio, if i can one thing i should be able to change everything. I really love this car, galactica aqua blue, its my first car.every. and first post 2k. Few things not mentioned in the review, center storage is limited, unlike the 2018 civic hatch which we bought.my now ex 6 months prior. Civic is a little more practical in that sense and with the usb and charger placement....Toyota if your going to put the plug in the middle console, make a little more room for it and somewhere to secure my phone close by. The little compartment under the radio is not large enough to secure my phone, but it inconvenient while driving. Although the HP difference is very little, civic seems to jump quick from 30mph +. Although the launch gear in the toyota is def a plus when turn left with traffic... last thing. I like to open the door when i reach my destination, grab my stuff and shut the car off, in doing so, the door chime is constant...ill be investigating this issue. I e had the civic and corolla, want to know anything else hit me up....Great review. Keep it up
I'm gonna be honest this should be the North American Hatchback of the year just look at it. It has amazing features on a hatchback this will totally crush the competition in terms of features even tho some competitors are similar, but this offers very important safety features standard it has good amount of power great looks it's the perfect car for college teenagers trying to look for they're first car:). Plus something very rare in this segment is that the corolla hatch has full LEDS even blinkers as standard I can tell this will be selling like hot cakes.
You nailed it...well said my friend! I think young adults will really go for this one as well.....! Jeff
I'm in my late 30's and would love to get the XSE version. I wish they would add Android Auto though.
It just lacks horsepower compared to other hatchbacks like the Focus St, Subaru WRX, VW GTI, Honda Type R, Mazda 3.
MuH LEDZ
StaggerProductions horsepower don't sell cars idiot. Only good for bragging but nothing else. Also this corolla looks better then all the cars you mentioned
I just got my new s e metallic blue very nice..
Looking at buying a 2021 xse what’s the audio difference between xse and se? Just Sirius? Or does it have better speakers or something
I'm considering one of these in the XSE trim with the 6 spd. manual as my next car. My only hangup is that it has about 40 hp less than the cars I'm cross-shopping (Civic Si, Hyundai Elantra Sport, GTI, etc). Toyota needs to come up with a TRD trim with somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 horsepower and I think they'd have a winner.
This what iam deciding by myself too. I just love this new toyota hatchback but at the same time I want some power in my car
Look at the improvements. Honda, Hyundai and Mazda, all need to step up!
When one is strong it forces the entire class to get better too!
Look up the 2014 Honda Civic with the "si" trim level. That's what I have. Not sure if this is better overall. Only thing I see this Corolla beating it in is gas mileage
Thomas Boyd different cars for different people
@@Tjtjboy the Si is a sports model with a higher performance engine (2.4L VTEC) and only comes in a manual transmission. Not a good comparison to make to this corolla which is a pure commuter car. The corolla has apple car play (which you car doesn't have) and tons of safety features that the honda does not have. And yes, it smokes the Si in gas mileage.
@@hecticphusion i agree. Lol bad comparison. Oh well. I still would not purchase a Corolla even though it is more reliable and has those extra things you mentioned. I like driving fun cars. Even that new Corolla Hatchback is not fun enough for me.
can the wheels and tires be fitted the same size in both trims?
with the keyless entry, is it possible to keep the car turned on and locked while I walk away with the fob in my pocket? if so, how do i do it?
is there an option for panoramic roof or sun roof? what is brake hold, when is it best to use it?
Very cool
Definitely go for the xse with Miami blue
I haven't seen the blue color yet but I'm dying to! I think it's gonna sell really well.....
It’s actually “Blue Flame”
Xse but waiting for the 2020 model hopefully Toyota puts a supercharger and actual dual exhaust
Also the CVT has a launch gear from 0-25mph then it switches to CVT. It does away with the rubberband feeling with traditional CVTs and makes it behave more like a normal automatic. Also I believe it's only the CVT has true radar cruise control where it will automatically make the car come to a complete stop. Whereas with the manual it will only slow down the car to a certain speed.
Toyota calls it Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and it's one of a few things you can only get with a CVT equipped Corolla Hatchback.
i dont like light colored fabric seats.....dark colored are easier to maintain
If it was in someone's budget, I'd consider adding all-black leather seats to both trim levels. We have a leather department here at my dealership...it's anywhere between $1199 and $1499 to add leather seats, depending on the model....jeff
Noticed the XSE has a hood liner, and the SE does not. Is there any discernible difference in noise level inside or outside the car?
I prefer the less adorned SE over XSE. Fog lights are really very rarely useful, don't like the chrome piece and the non-directional alloy rims. If I could I would delete the humongous tablet, as it is too much of a distraction and possibly block forward vision. Would be nice if I could have a traditional lever mechanical emergency brake on the manual transmission. With the exceptional fuel economy on the CVT it is a no brainer for me. If Porsche could do a 7 speed manual years ago, maybe Toyota can offer one too.
Annnnd yet again Toyota drops another tuners car. Cant wait to see what some are gonna do with this thing.
I’m jealous that Japan gets the turbo and AWD . Looks tempting to change my 2012 manual for this hatchback 🤔
If you do get one, send me a pic of what you get and if you pimp it out! Jeff
I wouldn’t
Looks like theres a wagon too, but we dont get it here in 'murica land.
I’m sure if there’s enough demand, they’ll bring a turbo model
@@TheMsdos25 yep, sadly murricans dont buy wagons
The reason that the SE doesn't have BSM has nothing to do with the trim level, it has to do with the fact that the 6MT models don't come with BSM
What's with the missing 'hood blanket' under the hood of the SE? Does the SE not come with it for some reason? Seems like a weird thing for Toyota to omit.
Love the fact Toyota equipped the XSE with a manual, that's the one I would buy.
Agreed! Manuals are so much more fun to drive, plus these CVT transmissions have caused so many problems for people, doesn't matter which make.
I'd love to see the hybrid version come to 'merica.
I just got the 2020 xse hatchback in flame blue, with a manual transmission.
How do you like the car Joel?
It's a nice car. Good power for every day commuting , not big power like the other hot hatchbacks, handles very well , enough space at the back for groceries, laundry and other stuff as well too.
@@joelvela4366 Sounds like a great car. I might get a used one soon.
The clear winner for me is the se automatic. It's rated higher in mpg, which is why I'd buy this car anyways. I'd rather have fabric seats and the wheels can be changed whenever I want to in the future. They are very similarly equipped..
Stay away from CVT transmissions.....nothing but problems from those....get a manual, your wallet will thank me later
Oh my goat looking so beautiful I love that
xse with the cvt and preferred package and spoiler in bronze
What is a Better buy mid night or axe?
DId anyone hear the error, about minute 5:00, Jeff mentioned he moved the front seats back to show the leg room, but he actually moved them all the way up.. so beware its doesn't have the leg room he demostrated
Idk if I want this or the Honda Civic lol this look very dope
I'm thinking I'll do a Car Battle between the Civic Hatchback and the Corolla Hatchback....will be fun! you gave me a great idea!
In my opinion this is actually a hatchback. The Honda hatchback barely looks like a hatchback.
So far this corolla hatchback is winning me over
Hey Jeff, do we need to start a petition to convince Toyota to bring the AWD version to the US? In the meantime - I'd probably go with the SE since I like its wheels better. It looks really nice in Silver too!
