I love mine. The depth switch is mainly for use with single coils or bright amps. It’s not going to replace my actual Soldano, and the Protein is staying on my board, but Mike Soldano is a genius. Everything he makes just sounds so amazing.
Snagged this pedal from a buddy and I'm pretty impressed. I've tried a lot of dirt pedals and this one is one of the best. Super versatile from light crunch to searing saturation.
That intro was so fire I just bought this pedal online, and I’m really excited because I’ve played one once before, and I think they sound absolutely fantastic!!
Well, it does sound good. So who’s to say it’s not the best. Or at least the best to his ears right now. As tone chasers, what sounds good one day, doesn’t the next.
Two things to consider: 1) there's little incentive to make videos on something you dislike and 2) Paul can make anything sound good, which tends to mean you can connect with your gear and make it work the way you want to.
Dang just test driving the neural soldano plug in…might need to get this for my deluxe reverb I bet it would pair beautifully with it. Great video as always Paul!
Hi could you please elaborate on that ie why does the eq pedal make this od pedal sound great I’m thinking of getting one but keep seeing mixed reviews about it thanks in advance
@@Ping-Gibson The pedal seems to have a pretty flat response so it needs The EQ before it hits the Amp not to boost anything but to cut those frequencies before your amp gets a chance to boost those signals. I think they set it up that way so it works with more amps. Set mine scooped with 31.25 +12db/ 62.5 8db/ 125 3db/ 250 -3db/ 500 -8 4k/ 1K -12db/ 2K -6db/ 4K 0db/ 8k 0db/ 16k +12db/ (8db total gain but that's for my Origin 20) without this tweaking with the EQ pedal my Soldano pedal sounded like the Anderton's review
Epiphany: With a proper pedal switcher (Boss ES series perhaps), I could get any drive sound I ever want with three pedals: 1. Soldano SLO (this one) for high gain, 2. Friedman Smallbox for vintage marshall, and 3. BE-OD Deluxe for brown sound madness. Bonus: Run a 5 band EQ in the loop, and you have all your scooped Boogie tones there too.
That's basically been my evil plan for the past few months, with a Big Muff mixed in for good measure. Still trying to decide the right switching mechanism for now, be it GigRig, Loop Master or others. I have the SLO pedal and it makes me oh so happy.
@@emcg.9655 You wouldn’t necessarily, but it does make switching between different OD pedals much easier on the fly. Just pressing one button at a time instead of depressing two different ones.
That's exacty what I have, I have a gigrig qmx-4 with a marshall type distortion for high gain, a dumble pedal for everdrive and a compressor for cleans. The other loop I have a boost that i can add to all the other channels. Took me years to figure it out but I can now easilly switch between 3 sounds, on top if you add the guitar's volume that's all I need
Have you ever done a review of Overloud TH-U ? its pretty insane how realistic their amp emulations of Soldano, Marshall, Mesa Boogie, EngL, Brunetti etc are
I would suggest you check out the now no longer made a Goosoniqueworx 7thvn. An ultra low noise floor amp in a box. It’s still my favourite medium to high gain pedal. Incredibly dynamic. But it was made very briefly about a decade ago. Brett Kingman has done the best review of it.
I would love to see an SLO version if the IR-X The cleans are also great in the SLO pre. Its one of the only amps I would rather have than my Mark V 25, that does more than the scooped thing, but its not easy to dial in.
Got one when it was released. Very nice, indeed. I do agree that there is a mid heavy character that can't really be dialed out. Great for classic rock and shreddy stuff, but not really for metal. Awesome pedal, nonetheless!
I don’t really care for gain past noon on the real amp, and this seems to act the same. I set up the crunch tone for max gain (sounds kinda plexiish) and the OD side for a boosted crunch
How about letting us hear it through a Fender Deluxe Rev or something more available to us weekend players. Playing through a $4-$5k amp, it should sound good. Just my thoughts.
I play the SLO pedal through my Fender Deluxe Reverb, and I love how it sounds and feels! The vibrato channel on the amp can sound a little harsh and thin with some distortion/od pedals, but the SLO sounds wonderful in that channel.
It's very odd to be using a hollow-body jazz guitar for high-gain demos with amps and pedals. Sure, it can be done but in real life virtually no one alive today does it regularly. It would make far more sense to use something that most guitarists actually use - a reference guitar with a solid body and humbuckers. You know, something like a Les Paul that _everyone_ knows how it sounds.
I see Epiphone 355 inspired by Gibson is gaining more populality among Gibson guitar shape fonders . . .ofcourse lots of haters as well but . . .1300 dollars for Epiphone is a new high now just look at the Gold price today.

I love my SLO pedal. The drive at 10 O'clock is perfect for me. The low end is so amazing.
Yeah, it really thumps big time.
I really enjoyed the opening riffing. A very rocking pedal.
Lenny + Slash! I’ve loved that riff since I was 12 when it came out. “But I’m always on the run…”
What song is that ? Dr albini?

I play it a lot too! haha
I think to get that riff 100% right you've gotta tune down a half step. Still, in standard tuning it sounds good if played right!
That intro was so fire I just bought this pedal online, and I’m really excited because I’ve played one once before, and I think they sound absolutely fantastic!!
Hope you enjoy it!
I have heard this on a few channels now and is on my wish list, it’s a really believable rocky tone!
Good to see the team back together, more of it!
The Andy Timmons JHS Angry Charlie has been my favorite for many moons. Now I need this to compare.
Paul you have been Andertons-ized, everything is THE BEST ......lmao
Click bait. That's how youtube works.

If you own one and don't like it, try it paired with a MXR 10 Band EQ, you'll love it

Yes, that's very yummy indeed! I think it's it the top 3 for sure...the guitar was the right puppy to test it with too! well done gentlemen.
I’ve just got mine. Was looking for something thick with a Strat single coil bridge. It’s spot on
It’s certainly my favourite gain pedal ever
Maybe I missed it but how do you have the pedal hooked up?
Great review guys, always look forward to you both. Question? If by chance you run out of ideas, maybe a review of James’s Eleven Rack?🤘
Does it clear up when you turn yer' guitar volume down like a real SLO?

Step up and feel the madness!
What is the blue LP ish thing in the video cover picture?
Can you guys capture the all 12oclock settings with the quad cortex? 🙏🏽
Good stuff
Appreciate it

What's the signal chain? Would that pedal sound that good with a Fender black face amp?
I cant remember what we used but yes itll sound great into a blackface style amp.
Yep that definitely works…nice. 🤟🏻🎸🔥
Bean looking forward to this one it certainly does what it says on the tin 😂 minted cheers.
Something the boys agree on. What a refreshing change! 😂
I liked the sound much better before you switch on the SLO lol
The best distortion pedal
These go to eleven!
It does say Maybe
That es is a lot of that tone fellas...
I’ll never sell mine. It’s that Gary Moore blues tone for me.
Lot's of pedals will sound that good in front of that Amp with that setting.
Had one myself but couldn't get along with it. Worth trying though

Lukather licks on a Carlton guitar
You need a proper 80s metal guitar for some of these demos. Maybe a snake skin Jackson soloist? I reckon Paul could rock that look hard.
Growing up in the 80s I’ve had my fill.
Save the scoop!!

No its not possible. We will just put it in the overcrowded drawer and get another.🤑
Not bad, but too tubeless sounding for my taste.
This pedal has a mid color that is not good for rock or metal. The Empress heavy menace eats it's lunch in that regard. Just sayin
I have the Heavy. It’s got 2 channels. Heavy and Heavier. Nice pedal.
