The Origin of the Name Palestine is older than 135 Ad, its refers to the Philistines, In the fifth century BC, the region of eastern coast of the Mediterranean started being called as “the Philistine Syria”, a term coined by the Greek historian, Herodotus and used in its Greek language form. In AD 135, the Emperor Hadrian blotted out the name “Provincia Judea” and renamed it “Provincia Syria Palaestina”. This was the Latin version of the Greek name. Palestine is there before Ibraham went there.
🙄 nice try
@@celloswiss Are you a chosenite?
nice try? thats it? your whole argument? you would look way less dumb saying nothing at all if thats it! lmfao!@@celloswiss
@@celloswissnow is your turn, only if you have ooops😅
yes, that is correct..thanks for explaining this to many viewers.
No, the term Palestine was not coined by the Romans in the second century. From Britannica: "The word Palestine derives from Philistia, the name given by Greek writers to the land of the Philistines, who in the 12th century BCE occupied a small pocket of land on the southern coast, between modern Tel Aviv-Yafo and Gaza. The name was revived by the Romans in the 2nd century CE in “Syria Palaestina.”
You are correct with "Palestinian" being a greek version for the jews arch enemies the philistines. Originally, in 1948 the Jews were called "Palestinians". There was a Palestinian orchestra and a Palestinian brigade in WWII.... Yasser Afafat used turn-speak and claimed "palestinian-hood". Read Joan Peters "From Time Immemorial" . The truth has been twisted.
@@suzannehawes4168The Romans named it that because the Philistines were an enemy of the Jewish people and the Romans were mocking them by changing the land name to their enemies name.
Exactly. As for Sal, I imagine his purpose in making the video is to
draw attention to the contrast between what should have happened (if at
all) and what actually happened (which he can't mention without causing a
stir).
could you elaborate?
@@happymonkey9416 It should have been done in a more peaceful way, rather than in a way that creates terrorism. Note that, in Osama bin Laden's letter to America regarding why they attacked us on 9/11, the first item on his list was our support for Israel's occupation of the Palestinians.
@@PhilosophyAnimation oh really I had no idea about that. Thanks! Before today I didn't even know that Israel was created and didn't exist before. In 1948! That is a very young country. Grafted from land from the palestinians. Now I understand why there has always been conflict called the isreal/palestine conflict. Yikes! This was not taught in school.

this is an insightful detailed work
I wonder what Theodor Herzl would think of modern Israel and the settlements in the West Bank
He is liberal against supressing people he focus on survival
Even ashkelon, telaviv, jaffa, jericho and all the other cities are burned down from the Arab inhabitants,
And rebuilt for the Jewish diaspora.
It's not something new.
Most of these jews are white,
Maybe the Jewish card is going well for the interests of the whites to grap some land(as they did in america-south and north- and australia) and they succeeded in the past.
He favored acquiring land legally, via land purchases, which is exactly what the Zionist movement did in the late 19th Century through the founding of the State of Israel. As the lecturer says at 10:15, he wasn't interested in seizure by force.
Because these things never happened?
On the other hand, his description of early Jewish history is contradicted by all known documentation. He simply messed up.
good job!!
I think the last quote Sal shared was really very beautiful.
unfortunately it doesnt matter how nice or eloquent he was in his writings, at the end of the day he was writing about the colonization of a land that had people living in it for thousands of years, now that is not nice...
it was barely populated, and the jews where there first, but it's not like you can understand what it's like to be hated and have no home.
***** There is no such thing as a Palestinian people
MrAugustus Well, what about the Arabs that Israel has been slaughtering since the inception of their ridiculous state. What about the people of Gaza and the West Bank? They're not jewish nor are Israelis. Stop making a fool out yourself you brainwashed fuck
+perfect1oNN Can the Irish colonize Ireland? Can the Greeks colonize Greece? I don't think so. You can't "colonize" a land that you have every historical, cultural and indigenous right to be in.
the dark skinned Arab robbers brought in by the Turks-Brits are a people
Excellent job-you shared true facts
Very interesting...
Thanks..!
Surprised there aren't many people watching this now (November 2023)
In the start of this series I didn't think that you'll do a video about this topic. I learned this topic in school many times because I'm Israeli and I must say that you did a great work
That is cool when there is tolerance with Palestine
Thank you
great video very good and balanced account is there more on Herzl you have done?
Here I am thinking that I don't know anything about World History from 1890-1920, especially WWI. Less than one week later. Bam! Khan Academy comes out with an entire playlist on just that. :D
Very informative and way to present the facts in an objective context
Thank You salman
well said
Well done, this is a tough subject to do with any kind of honest objectivity. He did as well as can be expected, that is to say again, well done.
I love Clavell's Asian Saga Book Series. Shogun is one of my favorite books.
Great video. Very factual and unbiased.
Being unbiased about people who are oppressed is being biased.
@@alexandrianautocruiser8024 Israel treats its Arabs better than Arab nations do lol. Until you don't bring up human rights in Syria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt don't talk about Israel's oppression lmao.

@@alexandrianautocruiser8024 but is it not true? Where is the BDS movement for China occupying Tibet and Xinjiang province? Where is the boycott of Saudi oil as they murder journalists and bomb Yemen? Exactly! I was about to write somrthing about the transfer agreement. But maybe he will get to that when he covers the rise of Hitler and WWII.
As philosopher Eric Hoffer once cautioned, "Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket."
"I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with us. Should Israel perish, the Holocaust will be upon us." -- Eric Hoffer
As per modern era language - then degenerate into Rocket
interesting.. Herzl vision of tolerance never worked out ...instead we see the exact opposite.
n khilo where?
@@CedricThePlaystation let's see... How about the Gaza strip? Or the West Bank.
Within Israel, there's plenty of tolerance. In fact, even Arab parties espousing anti-Zionist views sit in Israeli Knesset. As for the West Bank, search the videos of "Ask Israeli Palestinian" to see how the Palestinian Arabs see the future resolution of the conflict and you'll understand why there won't be a state of Palestine any time soon.
@@kingkoi6542 in Gaza strip it didn't work out, not because of the Jews. Gaza was not always blocked you know...
The Zionist Plan Includes Eretz Israel.. Stand By.
You're actually wrong, The British supported the Muslims restricting the amount of Jews allowed into the area, and going so far as supplying amour, heavy weapons, and small arms to the palestinians. It was America that stepped in and provided the resources necessary for a
Jewish victory.
Was thinking the same thing.
very, very good thank you.
Why C.E. (common era) and not AD?
I just would like to know if he later fixed his clear errors in early Jewish history. This is not a matter of opinion; he simply made a mistake, although I don't think it was entirely innocent.
It is very interesting to me that Theodore Herzl ( the Jewish recognized founder of today’s Israel ) was aged “44″ years old when he died in 1904 ( 1860 to 1904 ), and then it was another “44″ years later after Herzl died that the new country of Israel then came into existence (1904 + 44 = 1948 ).
Rothschild are the founders of Israel. Read the Balfour declaration.
Hank Aaron's baseball jersey had the number 44? Can you believe that!
It's gonna be hard for Khan Academy to stay out of politics :\ Sail safe.
"those who does not own gave to those who don't deserve" - Own? Sorry, the British were assigned control of the territory by the world in a treaty. Gave? No they didn't. Don't deserve? Sorry deserving land, that isn't quite how it works... No one deserves land, I mean I live on this strip of land, does that mean that I now deserve it, why? What have I done to deserve it? NOTHING. People never deserve land. Land is a thing that exist and we use it. No one should be persecuted for living anywhere.
HEY IM JEWISH AND I AM ALSO BLACK SO I DON'T REALLY APPRECIATE THAT WORD.... PS.. RACISM IS NOT A JEWISH THING!
The Jewish Diaspora in 70 AD was a Sabbath rest year and happened exactly six years after the burning of Rome in July 64 AD. The Christian Holocaust by the Romans began a few years after 64 AD. St Paul had just returned to Rome (protected from his near death in Israel by his Roman guards) just a few years before this 64 AD burning of Rome.
The beginning seems mixed up. The Hasmonean Jewish kingdom of Judea did indeed comprise much of the Biblical :and of Israel, on both sides of the Jordan. But the Romans had split the kingdom into several provinces, of which Judea was only one, nor was it the only place that the Jews lived. Syria-Palestina was the name given to the whole area, not just to the then-Judea.
How about you watch the damn video and figure it out?
Wow, Herzl would hate the Israeli settlements in Palestine
I have seen the clip thanks bro!
Where did you find the "hatred" in his comment?
Explain tasachs disease.
Yes, that's true.
Appreciate your fair view of my great, great uncle. He certainly set goals, kept record of them, and this shows you what hope can do.
Bahahahahah he’s evil
Do you think he died of natural causes at 44 or got murdered?
Gee what happen to tolerance Israel
The Jewish people and their struggles, 5:35 reminds me of the dwarfs in "The Hobbit: an unexpected journey". I suppose Smaug the dragon must represent some kind of powerful political power keeping them out of what they believe is their homeland. Not sure who Bilbo Baggins represents, any ideas?
Second part was a general comment*
im not well versed on this sensitive topic, but from his words herzl seems a visionary. a shame it took one last, unthinkable pogrom for their state to be granted to them. also a shame that it may have been the straw that broke the camel's back, as herzl's version of tolerant coexistence isn't being practiced in israel or the west bank
Is it just me but the Persian merchant didn't spread the Indian invention of zero until late in AD times yet all these myths like 600,000 jews crossing a desert. Whoever took the census on the travelers should be the most talked about man in history
Are they keeping that promise of protecting the land and property of others
judging by the 20% of non-jews in Israel, I'd say they are above average in the region by a whole lot.
Yes they try as hard as posible. But everything changes when the arab start killing and masscare
Thank You Bro
The think he actually meant the dwarves that way?
It is amazing how you can ignore all of the facts. The records show that before the Jews came, the place had a population of 300,000 tops, and unless you paid off every local chief, you would not make it across alive. In fact, if you were an Arab from the wrong group, you could not travel at all.
Tell that a person who is living under an Israeli occupation the last 50yrs
I don't know a single arabic word, and you can't imagine what my frustration is to not be able to speak it. Thanks, I had a hard time studying english cuz French suck at it right ;)?

Theodor Herzl dreamed to create a Jewish state that expands from Euphrates river to the Nile river. After several wars with eyjpet In 1973 Israel signed a peace treaty with Sadat and then with the invasion of Iraq in 2003 his dream became a reality.
Lies. Dont believe conspiracy lies. The guy clearly depressed and desperate for jewish state. His family almost all killed or sucide.
You're right, that quote was fom the french scientist Louis Pasteur. Einstein instead said: "science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind", I couldn't agree more. Don't worry I know what his definition of God is, just like Michio Kaku said, Einstein believes in the "god of spinoza, the god of beauty".
Just look up christian Zionism on wikipedia
Not every Jew is a Zionist. Not every zionist is a jew!
Palestinians are Semitic too!
The Herzl quotes from 9:30-11:10 advocate the utmost respectful tolerance, including to not set up shop on land that has "many such immovable owners".
It is nice to see an unbiased historical account of this issue.
That is not what occurred..people were forced out of their lands..and no they don't have equal rights either. It would have been nice if it actually worked out that way.
That explains why he decided to ignore all of history in this video? I'm not surprised when you tell me he is a Muslim.
Lets hope for the best, but to be honest; I don't think SAL is going to touch those topics.
A prophecy from the great man himself:
"At Basel, I founded the Jewish State. If I said this out loud today, I would be answered by universal laughter. Perhaps in five years, certainly in fifty years, everyone will know it." -- Theodor Herzl, diary entry for September 3rd, 1897
"The Diaspora cannot take place again unless the civilization of the whole earth shall collapse." -- Theodor Herzl quote found in Martin Gilbert, Israel: A History, New York 1998, pp.11,12
Theodore Herzl was an evil spawn of the devil.
'Great man'. Lol.
Seriously
Primarily - the Jews used to have their own state where is Israel is now, but they were conquered and exiled by the Romans. This was back in an era when religion was very closely tied to tribe/peoples/"nationality". Also, ever since then Judaism has stayed hereditary, and didn't try to convert others (unlike Islam and Christianity, which became international). Similar to how Shintoism is a Japanese national & ethnic thing, not just a religion.
They came to this land from Egypt,
And you know their history with the pharaohs, but most of you just neglect that fact to justify the occupation of the Palestinian people's land .
If the jews were willing to go back home, they would've said " egypt" not Palestine.
but if they are persecuted every where else, why not stick together?
Within the word Theodore is the word odor = ador =Adolf as ( R is 18 th letter = L ( 12th letter ) + ( add ) F ( 6th letter ).
Within the word Herzl, 4 of 5 letters are within the word Hitler, and the missing letters sum ( I + T = 29 ) are similar to the Z=26 only letter in Herzl that is not within the word Hitler.
it's an ethnicity. If you follow self-determination, they deserve a state.
It’s philiStine not Palestine
democratic decision making, not so much. I see it as a free market of ideas. Democratic decision making leads to group thinking, which is the suppression of individual thinking. But yea. Internet is the greatest tool we got against the suppression of knowledge!
Why is Israel also Jacob at the same time?
If I understand you, it is not Israel that is also Jacob, it is israil that is Jacob. Those are two different things. Israil (Jacob) is a prophet who is also mentioned in the Quran
The jews in Russia are not of Semetic origin they're Khazars.
+יהושע אלכסנדר Correct.
True but inaccurate. Some are Ashkenazim (German, central/western European Jews) who had fled from pogroms, inquisition, etc. to eastern Europe and ended up in Poland, the Baltic states (mostly Lithuania), Hungary... and in the Russian Empire.
אתה צוחק, נכון?

Some top Zionist bloodlines few talk about besides the Rothschilds include the Walton, Dreyfus, Pritzker, Guggenheim, Sackler, Lauder, Oppenheimer, Goldsmith, Montagu, Sassoon, and Warburg families. The Waltons are worth about 160 billion and they make cash bribes to dominate over small businesses. The Waltons were investigated for making cash bribes in Mexico in order to take over. They own Arvest Bank with Jim Walton and Sam Walton as top members. The Dreyfus family are worth billions and own a huge agriculture and distribution company in the Netherlands. They also own a large investment firm in New York and a private bank in Switzerland headed up by its vice-chairman Pierre Dreyfus. The Pritzkers are worth tens of billions and own hotels. They operate in Chicago and support the Clintons. The Guggenheims are very private and own investment firms worth hundreds of billions in the US. The Sacklers are worth over 10 billion and have been exposed for pushing their opiate drugs like oxycodone in the medical industry. The Lauders are worth over 10 billion and Ronald Lauder is the President of the Zionist World Jewish Congress. The Oppenheimers own banks in the US and Germany and diamond companies in South Africa. They are worth over 10 billion. The Goldsmiths are bankers and politicians in the UK and they co-founded what became Paribas a massive international bank. The Montagus are British nobles and both Jewish and Christian. They co-founded the Bank of England and are married with the Dreyfus family. The Montagus helped to purchase land in Palestine and are both British and Israeli Zionists. The Sassoons are very wealthy merchants that have owned banks and merchant companies in Hong Kong and India through the East India Company. James Sassoon is a British Baron and top member of this family. The Warburgs are German bankers with ancestry from Venice. They financed the Nazis, helped to establish the US federal reserve and merged one of their banks to become UBS bank in Switzerland. The Warburgs finance wars. Max Warburg is a top German banker today and runs MM Warburg.

But technically, it was the Brits that allowed them in, in the first place..Not that I resent that..but its true.

There was a Jewish population living in Palestine a century ago, but it was tiny--decimated by years of pogroms, emigration, and persecution by the Ottoman rulers. A century ago, increased Jewish immigration spurred riots from the Arabs, culminating with war. This war created both Jewish and Arab refugees. Jewish refugees were integrated by Israel, while Arab refugees were left unintegrated for political purposes. These are the Palestinians in refugee camps throughout the Arab world.
He's right. Right is right.
He also articulates precisely what is wrong when everyone has equal power to clog the forums of intelligent conversation.
I hope Sal doesn't end up regretting tackling this issue because of the equal footing the UA-cam affords douchebags.
The name Theodore Herzl is clearly associated with the term "Jewish Holocaust". Theodore = Theology of the Chosen of God = Jewish Herzl = Hurts = Holocaust /// Theodore wrote about how Israel would come about due to Jewish Hurts or rather Theodore Herzl.Holocaust
And he deserve to get hurt
I wish you wouldn't judge ALL muslims by a couple of guys you see online in a video. There are over 2 billion muslims in the world so that's just unfair.
There seems to be a blatant error in the beginning. Hadrian banned Jews from Jerusalem, not Judea and certainly not the whole area. Important developments in Jewish life, such as the basic part of the Talmud (the Mishnah), and the Jerusalem or "Palestinian" Talmud, continued to occur in the area. The Jewish community of the Land of Israel, particularly in the Galilee, continued for centuries.
Theodor Herzl had a big Idea, of having a Jewish land to show the people of the world that they could be better then the people that treat them so poorly , but Satan loved Jews because they didn't except Jesus but ordered him killed. They could be easily manipulated into hatred to kill in the name of there God rather then have compassion and love for the truth. Satan took his Idea and made it his headquarters to emanate the same kind of hatred to all the world as was done to them. Good day !!!!
Bashing or not I don't like his bias, and that's apparent on the quotes he chose. And sorry to tell you it does! for when did ever a majority accept to be ruled in their land by foreigners! He demanded a national homeland in an already inhabited national country. Finally, words ignites action, for god sake he's the father of Zionism, is he not? Check what Zionism is and wonderful acts it did.
First of all, bashing is not a good thing to do. Second, you a projecting your thoughts on man while Khan is operating his quotes. No, imposing someone's governance on a territory does not necessarily include ethnical cleansing. In fact, this is a failure of governance, of state. Third, likening someone to criminal based on how you view his words, not actions, is false logic.
Plus in High German the pronounciation of st in "staat" is "schtaat" (sht).
Big difference between theory and application.
Cmon Ben, I love u guys.. U don't want to convert anyone. U don't wanna shout out ur prayers at 4 am from rooftops with bass boosters and to top it off, u've screwed massively larger armies in insanely short amounts of tym (yom kippur war). Sure u'll have disagreements with some tribal relegious sects (wahabbis for eg) from tym to tym, like when u killed jesus or when u took away someone's lands,,but believe me, they had it coming.. Totally root for u guys.
Salman Khan must find it ever so slightly annoying to make the history videos because of the resultant youtube flame wars
agree.. all organized religions have to go, they should be replaced with humane democracy and equality for all human kind ..
Well... if just enough people give your original comment a 'thumbs up', then I think Sal is almost obligated to give this issue a fair coverage. I mean, this is what he meant by "urging us to also do our own research". Well, here we did! But the community must let her voice known first. This is one of the reasons why the internet is so great of course! It has the potential for becoming a great tool for democratic decision making and research.
