Here's my experience with the Cega kalimba.. My very first Kalimba arrived two days ago, it's a 21key Cega hollow kalimba, bought it from AliExpress, and so far it works just great, it took so long to arrive though, but other than that the sound is so beautiful, no dead tines, the color and details on it are GORGEOUS! I even named her "Aria" 😄💙
I definitely recommend it for any one, but if it was a 17key it would be better (I mean for beginners as myself)

I just use washi tape instead of the stickers... Happy Planner has very thin washi and it makes it pretty.

Hi Stephie! For me that would be just fine. I know a lot of beginners who got an Acrylic one as their first kalimba and they love it. So i think you will like it too. Just stay away from the brand cega because i haven't heard of any good reviews of it yet.

i love my kimi kalimba and i'm a beginner, it was my first kalimba and i love it! but i do quickly feel it was a little bit tiring to play after a while since it was quite heavy on my hands
ah i ordered one of these.. its on its way here but i will try to return it. bought the kimi rainbow acrylic one instead

the ones that i see the most purchased is a cega wooden one :( but im afraid of dead tines
my first hollow wooden kalimba had a dead tine (A6*) which i have not been able to fix so i just left the tune somewhere in between A5 and A5# to be somewhat decent :(

Hey lil meow meow. (Okay so just how cute is that name 😊) honestly yes, i really love the sound it makes! Plus the tines are okay in a sense that even the high tines still have good sounds. Just take note that it gets scratched easily. So keep that in mind. It needs extra care especially the back surface. And that it can be quite heavy compared to the wood. But even though, i still think that it has a bright sweetness to it. I hope this helps. :)

Are all Kalimbas the same? I just purchased a Geko 17 note hollow body. The E3 tine is dead, despite it being recommended by lots of revues.
Hi, David! Well, they do differ. There are some brands and models that do have these kind of issues. Just now i have been to a physical music store and tried out the gecko k17CA. It's a hollow kalimba, and it does have better keys.
Does your current kalimba have a return policy?
I have a wooden hollow 21 key Cega which I bought recently and the sound is beautiful, as well as the design. I don't know why everyone is dissing Cega :). Don't know about the acrylic, but the 21 sounds like a harp and all the keys work perfectly, including the highest. They are also very soft to touch. As soon as I saw it on the internet, I wanted to have it because of the Sun design and I saw an Amazon customer posted a short video with the sound and it was perfect. Got mine from an ebay shop (new!) for a decent price of 20e. I think someone should properly review the 21 key wooden hollow Cega, and no I am not payed to promote them :)
My E3 3rd octave is like that too, it was a gift from my brother , I'm just sad cause I cant do anything with it, just can't afford to buy a new one. (Sigh) thanks for this you did lots of help to have more idea in kalimba buying.

Yeah it's quite frustrating when something is really wrong with a new Kalimba. Next time, manufacturer shall consider putting an English manual as well. Good thing you shared it. Charge it to experience 😉

I recently bought an acrylic kalimba very similar to this one, but with another brand name. I feel like the keys are too hard to play it and I can't make a “glissando” or “gliss” on my kalimba like everyone does. Can you make “gliss” or “glisando” easily on your acrylic “Cega” Kalimba? ? ?

Mmmm, quick question, is your acrylic a holllow one or a flat body? For this one on the video, i see what you mean when you say that it's hard. i just went to check on that now and comparing to the circle acrylic kalimba, the keys are a bit stiff but not to the point of not being able to do a gliss. It's just that the sound can be a bit... Crunchy. Yeah this is not really a good one comparing to the round kalimba or your kimi. 😢

Hi Jovan! Mmmm pwde ka mag acrylic or wood, base sa mga natry ko na, if wood ka, go for gecko17CAP, mas okay grip nya compared sa gecko17cas, at makukuha mo na siya for around 1,100-1,500. If acrylic, ung kimi ung okay, (or ung circle na acrylic sa isa nating video here sa channel. May chance kasi na dead ang ilang keys if sa cega acrylic). Tapos nasa taste mo na kung alin gusto mo, if warm sounds, acrylic tayo. Pero if cool and mellow wood tayo. Though keep in mind na acrylics are heavier at mas prone sa scratches, so if gusto mo low maintenance, go for gecko17cap, soft ung keys at matunog mga end keys nya. Hope it helps!

Yes, kaya di ko talaga nirerecommend si cega. Ang cute cute pa naman niya.
You can probably fix this by putting it into a different tuning, the dead notes happen because of sympathetic resonance with the sound board or other keys and it cancels out the note but other notes might work fine. If you try tuning the whole thing down either 1 semitone (key of B) or 2 semitones to Bflat I think it will work.
Another trick that might work is to stick a little bit of glue or blu tak or a small magnet under the key and see if that works
Worst case scenario is make it a 12 note pentatonic and cut the ends of the keys off with an angle grinder it will sound great!

@@TipsKalimba I just watched it! Not many ppl know it`s the sound body that causes it. To people with unfixable dead keys try taking all the keys out & put them back in without any B`s or F`s for example (just leave them out) to do a C major pentatonic scale or find another pentatonic scale that doesn`t use those notes, there will always be some scales you can do.

I bought this, the rabbit shaped acrylic one. No dead tines at all ❤️, but I find it hard to play because I got an accident last year and my left thumb nail never grows back.

This is really late, but there are thumb pad-things that replace nails for people who want to play the kalimba, but also keep their nails short/no nails!

Saw this in Shopee but the name "Cega" failed to aroused me LOL... I think Gecko made a decently great Kalimba but some of those OEM no brand Chinese made Kalimba is not bad either despite being cheap. I just ordered those square boxy looking TOM Kalimba recently but it's been 2 weeks now and I'm still waiting for it.... this Corona season really delays everything.... sigh.... I got mine from online stores like shopee lazada and AliExpress, there are sellers who do sell the original. But if you want to be sure, you can directly search for the kalimba website of the one you want. Example gecko or lingting :)
I have a wooden cega kalimba, it's in tune but Everytime I try to do a song the sound of the notes are different from tutorial video and so I had to improvise like for example, the song when the party's over they shows the first note should be E3 then D2 and C1 but when I do it it doesn't sound right and what I do is change the E3 to G5 and then it sounds right, also the b7 and the higher g5 are stifffffffffffffff I mean super stiff and it's hard to play but over all it's nice so for those who are planning to buy a wooden kalimba cega wooden would be good for beginners but for those who already have experience and planning to buy a new wooden one don't!!!! Never buy a cega wooden kalimba

I have cega plastic kalimba. The model looks like gecko wood kalimba but it's plastic and transparent one. And yeah i got muted E and G°. Trying to lower the key but nothings. But i love that kalimba look like 🤣. Nah maybe i'll just make it as a display. And i got hammer almost same as you got but it's all metal not plastic. And the hammer is terrible too 🤣. After look at many cega review videos, i think they always had problem with muted tunes. And usually 2 tunes are muted. Is it coincidence or something wrong with their factory? 🤔

Hi Nina! Well, first, let's see if it's the tine or the kalimba itself ung may issue. Try to tune the dead tine sa ibang key, if umayos ung sound, then it means okaysi kalimba, pero if dead pa din kahit anong pag iba ng letters, it might be the tine. Sadly, still haven't discovered how to fix it, gagawin ko nyan is irereplace ko ung buong parts ng cega kalimba. 🙃

How do u compare gecko and cega?
Hi Stephen! Well gecko is way better than cega because of the quality of the tine used on gecko. It's my go-to kalimba to be honest. 😄

I m trying to buy the Kimi acrylic kalimba but some say it isn't loud as it doesn't have a hole... So from 0-5 how much would you rate
what i’ve been reading about them (i want one too) the acrylic kimi’s are typically a little quieter than a hollow kalimba. they sound more music box like and very twinkly and soft. hollow wooden kalimbas are typically louder and sound rounder and are quite warm. i like the acrylic one and i think i’m going to buy it for the fairy tale aesthetic because i like quiet and soft instruments.

If that's the only one with an issue you can change the tuning of the whole kalimba from C to B. We have a video on that under the playlist kalimba Q and A :)

Yeaaah. Try moving the tines left and right, up and down. Usually if It's a buzz, it should go away. But this is the very reason I don't like this brand is because of their quality control in the manufacturing. They sell these even if there are dead keys. I already removed and replace every part but the problem is the actual body design of the Kalimba.

I bought a Cega kalimba, the one with ABS material (the transparent one) and its sounds is terrible. The high keys are almost dead, like they have no sustain at all. I don’t know about the quality of this brand but I can’t help but regretting it so much. Why, Cega? 😭

Tip's Kalimba I feel you... 😰 This makes me wonder if the box-type kalimba tend to have short sustains and dead tines or am I just having a bad luck. Does the plate-type also tend to suffer from the sustain problem? I recently bought gecko k17mc and the high E tine has short sustain compared to other high tines. This also happens to my mahony muspor kalimba, the high B also has short sustain. 😭 But both my Gecko K17CAP and K17note sound just fine. What do you think about this? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
It must be bad to have a bad one and try hard not to say its bad. Its really the manufacturer's fault not yours as they did not do due diligence quality checks in their design and manufacturing. That is why others will win and they will lose. There is not a lot of money out there now and the fight for it is fierce.
I am really disappointed at cega acrylic kalimba because my first kalimba was cega deer and it has a beautiful sound. but acrylic kalimba? um.. no..
