@@TipsKalimba i bought the kimi acrylic because the sound of it felt so damn magical (i know its heavy apparently but i just fell in love with what i heard from it). Hopefully in a few months i can make it sound nicely!
Hello Tip’s Kalimba! I love watching your videos. In the video, you noticed why they use numbers for the notes instead of letters. I would like to share why they use numbers for writing kalimba music in 2:47 and 3:18. Those numbers are based on scale degrees. Scale degrees allow us to play the music in different keys. To make it easier, they are also marked on the tines. Kalimbas are tuned in C (C major scale) normally because it has no sharps and flats. Good for those who want to start to learn music. The first note of the C major scale is C, second is D and so on. So C=1, D=2, E=3, F=4, G=5, A=6, B=7. In B major scale: B=1, C#=2, D#=3, E=4, F#=5, G#=6, A#=7. For kalimbas tuned in C, The scale degree of 1 (without the dot/s) does not mean that it is the center tine though. It can be on any tine. One good example is the 21-key kalimbas with markings on the tine. The center is F=4 (with a dot below). Same thing happens when we adjust the sound of some tines to change the tuning of the kalimba from C to G or F etc. unless we adjusted the pitch of all the tines. The markings are used as a visual guide for us when we start playing kalimba without using stickers. It also assumes that it is always be tuned in C and with the sound of C on the center. If the tuning is changed to D or B or F by changing the sound of some times, we need to remind ourselves, mentally or with another visual guide, that the sounds and the scale degrees (mostly disregarded) will be different from what is on the markings. Scale degrees are really used for writing numbered music notation, the ones that you showed in 2:47 and 3:18. But I noticed on some kalimba covers, they use those numbers to make tabs. They just specify the correct tuning of each tines in the beginning, especially when the song is not played in C (not transposed). Sorry for the long comment, hope that would help you and others who noticed the same thing. Thank you very much and God bless.😁

Aww Sunny, i really love reading your comments 🥰 well, then we can surely make the most of what works. And that is what makes you unique. Thank you so much for sharing your insight 🥰💗
As a pianist, I think it’s kind of funny and cool how different the sheet music is for a Kalimba is compared to a more mainstream instrument. Like, reading piano sheet music, it’s always left to right, then top to bottom, and then there’s two staffs - top (usually treble clef) and bottom (usually bass clef). The former you play with your right hand, the latter with your left. And don’t get me started on dynamics, arpeggios, and tempo.
Woaaaah! You know what, i never knew this! I've always wanted to know what those two staffs were for. But i totally understand it now! Wow you are so insightful! I should definetly go to you these kind of terms. 😄
I realized that I got a kalimba in B, but the tab that came with it is in C. I wish the tab was just labeled with scale degree numbers. I love the kalimba, though. It is a Gecko with a solid camphor board. Very sweet tone.
