You can see his hesitation in looking at the rock knowing her name will be on it with someone else, then the sadness and regret as he looks further up to see all the fated pairs and knowing he will lead a life of loneliness without her, the woman he loves but can never have. Such a powerful and beautiful scene.
Tbh this version of these two are the extra scene that is similar to the book version but not exactly because the director changed it since her aunt is the main character. If you watch (the pillow book aka eternal loves of dream), it follows their love story exactly like the book.
I liked a lot the second show, the pillow book... but I find their love story stronger in this first show. The second one is funny and cute, but this one is fate and xharacter's strength...
I know Eternal Love Dream was more accurate to the book BUT can we just applaud the writers for some exceptional scenes written for these two characters in 10miles of Peach Blossom 🥹🥺😭❤

So after getting it they made pillow book which is the true story of the romance of Bai Fengjiu and Dong Hua that is why their story is different in the 2 iterations. So basically they are 2 seasons but chronologically it's the same time period focusing on a different couple.
