  • Running a 5K can feel daunting if you are coming from basically no fitness. We started training for our 3.1-mile Turkey Trot in August, this year, and are excited about the progress Alex has been making so far. For the first time we tried out keeping Alex’s heart rate at about 80% of her max and it has made all the difference. Her runs are now enjoyable and don’t feel overwhelming. Building from running for 30 minutes to 45 minutes has taken months, but doing so slowly has been the key to gaining endurance and keeping the runs from becoming unbearable. We still have a few weeks to go before our Thanksgiving day run, but so far our training plan has been working quite well!
