I coincidentally picked up the sands of time for the original xbox yesterday. came in perfect condition, manual included! remarkable how well it holds up.
Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy is one of my favorite series of video games (my favorite game in the series is TT, even though I started with SoT), but what made me want to play this series when it came out, was the original Prince of Persia (1989), that I feel deserved a mention in this video. Despite the original being only a 2D Platformer with a dueling mechanic for combat, not a metroidvania, when I saw the reveal of The Lost Crown I took it imediatelly as a nod to the original, and loved the decision to make this game a metroidvania. I feel it was a great decision, and even not messing with the story that we already know was great too, because they would get shred to pieces and accused of destroying the Prince we know. But the backlash I see against Lost Crown, because it is a 2.5D game (some people calling it a mobile game, as if all games have to be 3D and boast ridiculous graphics) and not following the story of the Prince we know, saddens me. The only way people will turn to this game's side is if only it's a masterpiece, being only good will not suffice.
I personally think it’ll be fine if it’s just good. You shouldn’t be too concerned by the crowd that calls it a mobile game. They’re not gonna buy it even if it’s a masterpiece (nor do they know what they’re talking about, as, like you said, not all games are 3D with stellar graphics). I’m just personally really disappointed by the Sands of Time delay to get particularly excited about Lost Crown (looks good tho).
The takedowns in The Two Thrones are a nice mechanic and i usually appreciate stealth as an option, though i think they’d be more fun if the quick time element was removed
I remember the first time firing up sands of time, i was so blown away as a kid, and i couldnt wait til classes were over so i could come home and play it nonstop.
The main thing I liked about the first game was his precog before he was do his parkour stunts so it’s like a quick glimpse of what you need to do and where you need to go!
Sand of time was of the first games I remember being advertised that I knew I had to get. Loved the game so much and now after this video I need to go back and play it
I bought both Prince Of Persia Sands Of Time and Beyond Good and Evil for the PS2 at the time they were released without knowing anything about either releases. Was blown away by both games and it made me a huge Ubisoft fan at the time.
I'm glad you mentioned Warrior Within is alot of peoples favoirite because if all your research was Metacritic you would assume everyone hated it because they found it too "edgy" Aka ign & Gamespot. The it's too "edgy" critisism for media alot of people like is extremely thrustrating for them including me.
POP2 was the best! i remember feeling the adrenaline of being a cursed prince running changing his fate, and the metal music is what build my taste in music till this day :D
It's crazy to read the comments and realize that there's a generation that doesn't even realize that the Sands of Time trilogy is also a reboot of the series from the 80s. It also is weird to hear someone recommend the PS3 version, as someone who owns it myself, it's usually considered one of the lesser ports for all three games. Anyway, I got high hopes for The Lost Crown. The series has been in retirement for a while, but hearing that the Rayman team is working on it (if you haven't played Rayman Origins or Legends it shouldn't be slept on) and my newfound appreciation for the Metroidvania/search-action genre has me incredibly hyped to see them come back, even finally getting to old ideas (playing as the Prince's bodyguard rather than the Prince himself was an early concept that eventually led to Assassin's Creed)
I loved that trilogy back in the day, especially how the last game directly acknowledged the tonal shift between the first two and now you had the Prince with two personalities in conflict that were voiced by the two different V.A.'s who did the first two games, so that one was a more positive hopeful guy and the other was a jerky edgelord. Plus, it brought back Farah and finished calling back to where the first game started. It was so satisfying.
My first game in this series was also Two Thrones and I loved that game. I look forward to the sands of time remake release so I can start from the beginning this time!
The lost crown is absolutely amazing and now it’s gotten wanted to buy this trilogy and try it out cause the lost crown was my first prince of Persia game
Don't think it was forgotten, people that know PoP will know FS, but yeah it was considered a much worse game than the others. I still loved it, and the only reason I think it doesn't hit me in the heart like the others is because it came out on my late teens, while the SoT Trilogy came while I was starting adolescence, and as we know, games we play at that age leave a different mark!
@@AstyuJack so forgotten sands was considered worse than that pop 2008 ( in which player cannot even die ) ? I guess maybe it has to be about the graphics
Warrior Within is not only my favorite Ubisoft game, it is by far the best game I have ever played. Having played thousands of games for 20 years, it still remains my favorite game and it seems like it will continue to do so. That old man's words "You can't change your fate" still echo in my ears, and Kaileena's words "You are a fool Prince" still echo in my head. Menu music plays in my head in unexpected places. No matter what they call this game, let them say it's not POP. It doesn't matter. Warrior Within is one of the cornerstones of the gaming world.
Prince of Persia is definitely a timeless gem. It has been the most beloved game for million of gamers around the globe, so it was for me. That's why Prince of Persia is one of the major inspiration for the game we're developing. We're working on a "90s Anime inspired 2D Hack'n'Slash game which has Parkour like Platforming". And all the animations are going to be hand-drawn. Imagine action of Devil May Cry and platforming of Prince of Persia.
I really hope this guy knows Prince of Persia was a thing in the 80's long before The Sands of Time. Hell, Sands of time wasn't even the first 3d PoP game.
Imagine talking about warrior within without mentioning it's insanely good soundtrack featuring Godsmack. Brought those dahaka chases to a whole new level.
I loved sands of time and then I remember when the trailer dropped for warrior within and it played I stand alone by Godsmack. So fucking bad ass. I never did finish two thrones. I remember I got stuck at a boss and never got around to beating it. Greet childhood memories tho.
Always confused that people got mad about Lost Crown, since the OG games were 80s-90s 2d parkour puzzle platformers set in an entirely different timeline from the later Sands of Time games.
I remember really liking the sands of time! The commercials for this game is really cool too I still have the copy with me since 2012 (I wonder if it still works?)
Prince of Persia HD trilogy is PS3 exclusive. Sony around 2010 began publishing HD remasters of some of their their iconic ps2 games. Prince of Persia, God of War, Rachet and Clank, Jak and Daxter and more got HD remasters with trophy support and sixaxis/dualshock 3 support.
I absolutely loved the Prince of Persia trilogy back on the original Xbox. Used to be a huge fan of Ubisoft due to growing up with amazing games like Rayman 2, PoP 1-3, and the early AC games. PoP 1 and 2 are both really really good in their own different ways, while 3 was a bit weaker though still pretty good.
Warrior within is my favorite the combat and the story are perfect I own the PS3 hd trilogy I always play at least one once a year . Also the sands of time is backwards compatible on the Xbox in 4k . Always loved the prince of persia trilogy.
Of all the three POP games I've played in my past childhood. My most favorite will always be Sands Of Time, and I really can't wait to play the upcoming new POP game. Even though we won't play as the Prince, but it's close as we get for a new POP game.

These are still one of my all time fav trilogies! Sands of time is goat but loved the vibe of warrior within, the soundtrack and gameplay and story were really awesome! Two thrones felt like it needed a bit more time to flesh the story and characters more but it tied the other games together well enough ^^
Regarding the combat in Warrior Within, yes, it has a block ability. It doesn’t make it Assassin’s Creed. It’s up to you if you just want to stand there and block all day or if you want to be aggressive and proactive. The team gave you a lot of new moves that weren’t present in the first game, specifically to make the combat more interesting and engaging. If you just stand there and block, instead of actually using the game’s mechanics, just because the first boss required you to block from time to time, thats on you. Basically it’s a skill issue. Oh and you can’t really do combat like in Assassin’s Creed, because most enemies have a way around your block, either with unblockable attacks or by tripping you and punishing you when you’re down.
The remake doesn’t interest me, but this video just made me realize they have the entire original series on Steam. Definitely gonna jump into this series again, loved it when they originally came out.
oh my god.. I finally found someone else who likes to collect Collections..... I have 20 different PS3 collections.. Big ones I would like to pick up are Killzone Trilogy, Splinter Cell Trilogy and Jak and Daxter Trilogy. Other than that I have most of the rest of them i think. Anyway, Subscribed!
I remember I had a “Demo” collection on my parents Xbox and a Warrior Within was on it. It was the most violent game I had ever seen and I was very young so of course I loved it. The combat was insanely good
Sands of Time (2003) is definitely the best of the entire SoT series. . . It’s so charming and whimsical, and has all the best elements of cheesy action movies like the Mummy and Scorpion King It has a romance subplot that’s actually quite wholesome and interesting, and the Prince and Farah have such a dope dynamic And it doesn’t have all the unnecessary edginess like in Warrior Within, while still being dark and depressing at times
My brother was addicted to these games. Especially Warrior Within. He also really liked the Reboot that stepped away from this main character. I havnt started the video so I don't know if Matty mentions it yet.
Great video! I’m actually really looking forward to lost crown as I crave a Metroid dread experience to start off my year with stress 👍🏻😂 Hope to see you do a retrospective on final fantasy VII before rebirth comes out!
I really liked this video because I am a big fan of the original prince of Persia trilogy and I was also introduced to the jack and dexter trilogy with jack and dexter 3 who is still my favorite
I am sucker for heroes being able to turn into darker versions of themselves as much as the next guy. As much as I felt betrayed by the tonal shift from Jak 1 to 2, I fell head over heels over the "cool factor" that was Dark Jak. So when I saw The Dark Prince on the cover of Two Thrones that of course got me excited as well. Only problem in that game, is that unlike Jak where you are free to use Dark Jak whenever as long as your dark eco meter is full enough, the Dark Prince's sections are 100% scripted. You don't just have a button that let's you transform at will. Because unlike Jak's open-world platforming spiel, Prince of Persia is a "hallway game", meaning the levels are 100% designed to account for the normal Prince's agility, strength, and speed, and so you would break the game in half if you could transform at will into his dark half with increased everything. Therefore the Dark Prince sections are picked out for you, in areas where you NEED his super human strength in order to even survive, like being swarmed by tough enemies that normal Prince wouldn't have a chance against. Don't get me wrong these sections CAN be fun, but not being in full control of the power of darkness yourself is a let down.
Warrior within was the best of the 3. The dual wield combos were amazing. And the best thing about it was the dismemberment and gore. I loved seeing the heads pop or splitting enemies in half. T2t kept the system but dimmed the gore. You would cut someone and instead of splitting in 2 he’d just arch to the side and fall 😅
It was the same thing with me I started with The Two Thrones as well and then warrior within and finally ended with sands of time . I played the games again last year and Platinumed the games it was fun experience as it was my first time ever getting the platinum trophy
Warrior Within was insane... brought in weapon durability, the Sand Wraith, Traveling between the island's past and present, the Dahaka chases, most people did not even finish the game properly cause you needed the secondary water sword to kill the Dahaka.

Yes. PoP Sands of Time Trilogy is one of the best trilogies in gaming. It's also better than the entire Assassin's Creed franchise
thats just objectively wrong because these games are not better than the Ezio trilogy or black flag and you cannot convince me otherwise
You are objectively wrong, The Prince of Persia series is much better than anything from the Assassin's Creed series, you cannot convince me otherwise.@@mihawk508

Nah , if you remove that , u know what those Archer birds are pain in the ass
@Handonattempt qte timing was for boss battle too, so u just cannot escape that
I remember the first time firing up sands of time, i was so blown away as a kid, and i couldnt wait til classes were over so i could come home and play it nonstop.
Same here. I played Two Thrones, then I played Warrior Within and finally played sands of time. Sands of time became my favorite.
The main thing I liked about the first game was his precog before he was do his parkour stunts so it’s like a quick glimpse of what you need to do and where you need to go!

Warrior within was the first game I ever completed ❤ my gaming arc started with one of the best games ❤
I'm just hoping above all else that Ubisoft don't mess up SoT remake

Are you kidding me? The Dahaka gave me nightmares for so long i was scared to go to bed...
Warrior within is my favorite of the lot.
Quotable lines.
Godsmack.
The most action oriented.
The Dahaka was sick af
My first game in this series was also Two Thrones and I loved that game. I look forward to the sands of time remake release so I can start from the beginning this time!
The lost crown is absolutely amazing and now it’s gotten wanted to buy this trilogy and try it out cause the lost crown was my first prince of Persia game
The forgotten sands has, ironically, been forgotten. It was a really good prince of Persia game. The original trilogy is unrivalled though

The commercials for this game is really cool too
I still have the copy with me since 2012 (I wonder if it still works?)
i have beat them all in the sand of time trilogy and to me its a legendary franchise cant wait for the sands of time remake and the new as well.
Even though we won't play as the Prince, but it's close as we get for a new POP game.

ubisoft giving the warrior within armor in the lost crown feels like an insult.

Of course it's that good. Play the first one if you want a decent story and some good voice acting. WW is fun. TT is decent. Play one.

They think pop was not supposed to this dark
Sands of Time (2003) is definitely the best of the entire SoT series. . .
It’s so charming and whimsical, and has all the best elements of cheesy action movies like the Mummy and Scorpion King
It has a romance subplot that’s actually quite wholesome and interesting, and the Prince and Farah have such a dope dynamic
And it doesn’t have all the unnecessary edginess like in Warrior Within, while still being dark and depressing at times
It is still to this day, one of the best trilogies of any era
Nostalgic Vibes for sure... 🙆🏻♂️✌️

I really liked this video because I am a big fan of the original prince of Persia trilogy and I was also introduced to the jack and dexter trilogy with jack and dexter 3 who is still my favorite
I had the original for the Amiga which was a 2d puzzle platformer, sands of time ps2 was a reboot of the original game.
Worrier within is my favorite prince of Persia game
Nice review. You said you'd do a review of the one with Elika in it as well, but never did. Hope you do. But still, nice review.
I was literally watching the movie last night and had an itch to go back to this games
It was one of my favorite series. I liked all the games including the reboot. The entire series should be available in the essentials collection.
