  • I built this cheap, simple tool cabinet to house all my hand tools. It turned out great and was nice and quick. Thanks for watching!

I like the way you installed those magnets - using the screw to hold 'em and stick them in. Looked like that worked well. Always nice to see a little tip like that / something that hadn't occurred to me. Cheers.

Great job on the cabinet! I'm going to steal your idea for the doors, drawers, and the drawer fronts because I like them that much! Don't sweat the mistake with the drawer sides -- we've all done that -- and sooner or later you'll need a small piece or pieces of plywood for something. Great job!

Your not really stealing anything, it's pretty common.

Great project. I like how it came out. The simple face panels for your drawers gave me an idea for drawers that I’m making for my workbench. Nice, simple design. And I like the color offset. Thanks for sharing the mistake. Not everyone does that on their videos. Those things happen to all of us. I built some simple garage shelves this weekend and once finished, I realized I made the same mistakes that I made on the ones I built 18 years ago. Doh! 😂

hi. nice addition to your shop. i have two observations.
first--that is regular ol' birch plywood. Baltic birch plywood is a completely different product than that which you can buy at your local big box store. it comes in sheets that are most commonly 5' square. 3/4" ply, like what you used, has 9 plies of uniform thickness and most importantly, there are no voids on the interior. it usually has a bookmatched or at least grain matched finished face. it is a premium product, and commands a premium price. you may know all this by now, but some of those watching your channel won't, and accuracy is important, i think.
secondly--you have a number of tools that don't have a home. it would be worth the slight increase in cost to buy enough product to make the cabinet large enough to accommodate all of the tools you want it to hold. if it doesn't have a home, it's still just going to be laid somewhere convenient, and you still won't know where it is when you want it, or you'll have to move it every time you have to change the position of your current project. shop organization is sometimes a trial and error process, so i get that you might have more stuff now than when you were planning your cabinet, but if you're like any of the rest of us (and i can tell you are), you are always on the hunt for your newest tool. build a little potential to add to what you already have. extra space is never a bad thing. you will always find something to fill it.
nice job on the fit and finish. it's a nice cabinet.

Very nice build ! Enjoyed watching. Don't let the drawer thing bug ya, I've made a sorts of crazy blunders like that myself. As long as you enjoyed the build, thats all that counts...great job.

I like the style of the cabinet, but it's a tad small. Am a big believer in using a jig to place door pulls and handles. You can eyeball them, or measure, but if you're off by a bit, it will really draw your eye.

No need to throw out that first drawer that was missing the bottom panel groove. You can use a router to put in the groove while the drawer is assembled and then cut the back panel at the bottom edge exposing a slot to slide in the bottom panel.

Good effort for a first attempt. It's not baltic birch ply by the way. Could have been bigger, the first thig you show is some chisels that you have nowhere to store. You'll re do it in a year or two and will have learned lots from this build. One tip. 4" screws into the wall don't make it a better fix. The stress is downwards on the neck of the screw, they are not likely to pull out. 2" but thicker would have done the job better. I'm sure it won't fall off.

Nice project. I need to make one of those soon. I like the splash of color. It really adds to the character. One negative... I really hate the buzzing of the radio in the background during the time-lapse segments. Very annoying. Some noise-cancelling bluetooth ear buds would solve that problem. Otherwise, I enjoyed the video and you've got a new subscriber.

WOW, it take balls to admit such a big screw up and not only once but twice. Hey, more power to you for it. That is the way we all learned our craft and if anyone says different, you have standing before a stone cold lier. But I'm sure you will find as you get better and better that these types of big mistakes are far few and less severe as you keep on working and learning. It is a never ending process of learning and developing the skills needed for a fine craftsman. By the way you made a very nice tool cabinet.
