The seahorses are so cool to watch swimming around! I’ve seen a few ‘planted’ saltwater tanks before, but they were all nano sized. Hopefully the macroalgae takes off, I think it looks great
This has honestly made my day! I’ve always loved seahorses because they reminded me of horses but I have never owned them because I have no experience with salt water aquariums and know how unique they are so it’s amazing for you to get them as your content is always so authentic and shows what it’s really like. I hope one day once I’m older and have a stable job I can get more experienced with salt water tanks and eventually have my own seahorse aquarium. I only have one fish tank and it’s a cold water tank as I’m at university but your videos are always such an inspiration to me
I’ve always wanted sea horses but know they are hard to keep so I’ve never gotten them, so happy to be a part of this journey you’re embarking on with these beautiful creatures and I’m so excited to follow along 😍
I worked at an aquarium as a volunteer and NOBODY was allowed to touch them. Only 1 member of the staff who was very experienced with their care fed, did water changes and cleaned their tank. They are very sensitive and can die quickly
The main problem is they need a good established tank and people hate that period and impulse buy (me included, on corals) giving you a massive hit and miss ratio (2 of the same coral, next to each other 1 dies, the other doesn't for example) A good source of where you get the seahorses and a good established tank should do. If you're willing to skip that part, prepare for daily water tests, water changes, baby caring. Edit: Always ask what they feed on in the shop and possibly ask to see them feeding if you' don't completely trust the store.
@@justslow9483 it wasnt a store lol it was a aquarium who hadnt even had it done and when we brought the babys in they told us they couldnt take them at the time
Joey, your excitement is infectious. I am truly happy for you, they are a great acquisition. I'm always impressed and encouraged when i watch your videos bro, you don't just have these animals for your own enjoyment... you put in the hard work to ensure they are well taken cared of and happy. May more and more hobbyist put so much care into what they are charged to care for. God bless brother.
WOW 🤩 Joey! They are stunning! They look amazing swimming around the little aqua scape you created for them. I can’t wait to watch and learn more about them through your videos! I’m so freaking excited you got Seahorses!
The decorative macroalgae tank keepers, while not common, are a dedicated subset of the marine hobby that has some amazing tanks, but since it's hard to compete with the popularity of reef tanks, their popularity has never really take off. I will say, having kept some macroalgae tanks myself, they can be quite challenging in their own right, as many macroalgae require specific water parameters to flourish, and it's easy to overrun them with nuisance algae. Regardless, it's good to see you're bringing some attention to the idea, no matter how simple.
Love, love, love the seahorses and also your octopuses. Ever since seeing leafy seahorses at the Atlanta Aquarium I've had a special love for seahorses. Glad you got them!!!!!!
I think this is one of the most exciting videos you’ve made in a long while that grabbed my attention… I can’t keep salt water it all goes over my head but I LOVE getting to experience it second hand through you !
I think the setup looks so natural which makes it even more beautiful and incredible. Absolutely love the seahorses, overall tank setup adjacent to the octopus! Great job!
10:03 am, just did a 5 gallon water change on my 14 gallon nano reef. It’s Sunday, my only day off and I start smoking my seaweed pen.. I see you upload. Man todays gonna be a great thank you Joey ❤️
I think that Of all the videos you’ve done that I’ve watched for many many many years , introductions of new species I’ve never had myself. This has got to be the one I’ve been most excited about. You’re educational as well as fun for those who don’t scape great. I don’t after about 10 years of planted aquariums I still do “it looks pretty there” Great job dude appreciate it.
I like seeing you so excited about what you keep Joey. It’s nice to see that someone is doing the hobby for themselves and not for UA-cam, and it just makes the viewer happier to see what you’re doing with all the tanks. :)
Macroalgae is AMAZING for the Saltwater community! It works wonders for removing nitrates, just like the plants in freshwater!! Also if the Seahorses don't eat, try culturing Daphnia, all you need is a barebottom tank, and to feed them you can give them Bug Bites or let a bucket sit outside after rain and take some green water and culture that in a jar ir something and feed the daphnia a good squirt every day, Edit: I also hope Macroalgae will help get people into the Saltwater part of the hobby as well!!
Great job scaping the aquarium I loved it. It was great to see them zoom around and hear your excitement. I always wanted to have a pair myself but to be fair to I realize I’m better suited watching and learning and enjoy you share these experiences. Thank you Joey be well be you
I personally know nothing about seahorses but I can agree they are amazing! My closest aquarium has a couple tanks dedicated to them big and mini. Both are awesome, idk the cost but you should most Definitely load your tank up with them and saltwater snails. Oof that would be a wonderful site to see especially on your channel keep it up!
Love it. I have the same green plants in my refugium and put some in my tank a few months back. Look great when thicker but they do spread their roots through all the substrate and pop up everywhere. You'll find you need to pull some out every few weeks. 😊
The way they swim is super cool and very interesting. I've kept fish for 30 years, I love freshwater, but these fish and this aquarium is, for me at least, the most interesting aquarium, Please give us regular updates even if it is only a minute or so on some of your next videos.
I will never forget seeing one swimming under pier next to a pillar in the Phillip bay. Was just like this hanging around something circular with plants like this. This off the coast of Melbourne Australia. Looked a bit like these guys too!
Wow! I love this. I was just searching up seahorse tanks for inspiration, and now i have it. Im deff gonna do this for my sea horse tank with plants like those.
After seeing you run a saltwater tank like a freshwater tank, I was inspired to give it a go with my own twist - I did an Australian rockpool Biotope, planted with macroalgaes, stocked with seastars, dwarf aquatic hermit crabs, snails & shrimp, all in a 5 gallon. It’s so cool to watch, so different from a freshwater planted tank. I’ve gotta say though, you’re tempting me to start another one for seahorses.
Amazing to see this... Joey used to say couple of years ago;; no saltwater for me... fastforward; my dude has now seals, octopus, babysharks and now sea horses. Keep them good stuff coming ; inspirational 👏
enjoyed this video! Thank you. I use to have a Seahorse very rewarding. But a lot of work......Need to be fed twice daily at least. And require perfect water conditions as they're very susceptible
This is soooooooo amazing! Can’t wait to see how this goes! You now own my my top 2 fish that I will never keep. Love this so much. Ps we need an Big Momma update lol
They’re absolutely stunning Joey, congratulations on the sea horses! They’re definetly one of my favorite animals from how fascinating they are to their appearance!
I absolutely love this tank and the sea horses are beautiful…… this tank is phenomenal. It would be so awesome to have two breeding pairs. Thanks Joey for sharing this , LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM !!!!
OMG they are soooooo cute.... :D I think the tank looks good. I love the way you have it set up.. It always takes time for a tank to take proper form to how you imagined :D
This is so exciting. Seahorses and axolotl are the two most top tier fish I want to keep one day. I can't wait to see more videos of these beauties as their environment grows and they get comfortable
Honestly the most beautiful tank I've seen I'm genuinely jealous I don't have space for a seahorse tank I'll just have to make do with watching your grow
Great video. Seeing the seahorses swimming around your aquarium was better than the Cleveland zoo. Keep doing what you love, because that's what we've come to watch.
I love your joy and enthusiasm! That smile on your face and the light in your eyes is delightful. I love seahorses but never thought to add them when I had large aquariums. It’s been decades since I kept aquariums and I was wondering if seahorses could thrive in one. So I just keyed in seahorse aquarium and found your charming video. Now I’m ready to learn more before I proceed. The first question I need to answer is can I add other fish and sea creatures in a seahorse aquarium? So I’ll look for a video on that topic. Thanks for such an enthusiastic video to get me started.
Joey, By far the coolest kind of saltwater fish anyone could have. Ok, now I'm freakin jealous man. It would be awesome if the male and one of the females mate and are successful, and you end up with babies, that would be sooooooo cool!!!! Truthfully I've always thought that seahorses would be very hard to keep in an aquarium because of how particular they are in what they eat and the conditions of everything around them. They seem to be a very sensitive fish from what I have learned. But hey, when I was keeping saltwater fish years ago the saltwater hobby was far behind from what it is now. Definitely keep us up to date on how they are doing. Ohh and the algae in their aquarium looks great. Maybe a couple more stacks to help the algae root and spread to give the seahorses more to cling onto would be good. AWESOME!!!! Matt - Toronto, Canada
Have a planted highend brackish tank (1.018) for my diamondback terrapin with macroalgae. Those macros will take off! Their growth rate and nutrient uptake is insane compared to freshwater plants.
Looks great... I never had success having my flatleaf caulerpa attached to rock, so I buried it in the sand and took off beautifully. I also found that the red microalgae need to be in direct flow at high light (it did better like that in my tank, but may be fine in yours)
Please make sure you have variable flow in your tanks. Contrary to what most people believe, seahorses do like a bit of current and love to play in it! I can't wait for you to see the mating dance where they stick their snouts straight up and dance around each other! Keep an eye on the temps too...cooler is your friend with seahorses to avoid bacteria related issues.
They're so active!! I always hesitated wanting to get some thinking they just sat there. I will definitely rethink this later when I can set up a tank again.
i like how the rocks turned out with the sea weed on it the footage is great i would love to see you get another male sea horse for the other female :)

That made me incredibly happy!!! Just amazing!!
Instant planted aquarium. Looks 👍🏻
I'm tempted to get rid of my UV and give it a go 🤔 Thanks again Bro 👌🏻
I’m sooooooooo freaking excited to see future sea horse videos they’re so majestic!!!!
Am on holiday in Greece and still find time to watch your videos 😂😂
This is super cool the most active seahorses aquarium I have ever seen.
Dragonets, and pipefish make great tank mates for them if you wanted more activity in the tank. Looks good now though.
i like how the rocks turned out with the sea weed on it the footage is great i would love to see you get another male sea horse for the other female :)
Joey, those sea horse are going to LOVE it , better then the Monterey Bay aquarium 🤙 are you going to feed them some home grown Brine shrimp
wow those are amazing!!!! cant wait for more updates on these guys. 😍
I love sea horses and always wanted them. Please continue to share them.
They're awesome. I would never have the confidence to own any though. Same with the octopus.

They are the best and so fascinating to watch!
Have you seen a leafy sea dragon before?? They’re amazing!! They remind me of overgrown sea horses
This is officially your best tank! I love it
Wow I'm super duper early this time lol. I hope everyone is having an amazing day an thank you so much for the amazing videos.
the way they swim is too cute
Seahorses are pretty sweet, but my favourite in the family Syngnathidae (Seahorse's, Seadragon's, Pipe-Fish's), is the Leafy Seadragon (Phycodurus eques).
If you could get a mangrove tree growing I think that would look super amazing with the seahorses!
