The Aristocrat 1946-47 was the first razor Gillette made after making war machines for WWII. Rumor has it they celebrated by making it in gold. The 1948-49 model was slightly different and had the notches in the center bar to grab the blade out of the dispenser. And the top and bottom rings on the handle were different. I purchased my first from eBay this summer and is was in pretty bad shape and rusty and green. I had it refurbished in 24K Gold and it is so beautiful. I will admit it's not as easy to use as other Gillette vintage razors and I need to angle it more but it also gives more audio feedback. I like the heaviness and handle. Very special razor in Gillette's history. Thanks Paul for using a vintage! Cheers, Mark
I recently became the proud owner of one of these razors. Feels like a steal, the people that sold it thought it was a 1960 gold plated Gillette fatboy but turned out to be a 1946-48 Aristocrat which for me is even better. Beautiful razor, luxurious shave, definitely my new favorite. It blew my mind because I usually use an open comb razor, my Gillette Khaki Set from 1918, it gets my skin nice and smooth but leaves it kind of raw. This razor I get that same, baby smooth shave and all the while just loving it. Great razor, truly.
+PaulHFilms Oh absolutely! When I went to Jerome Arizona I saw an old 3 piece Gillette razor from the 1920s sitting in a museum and I thought, my god, I use a razor that's just a few years older than that and belonged to some soldier in the first World War. That's why my 1918 is still the pride of my collection, and thinking about who might have had the 1946, just a year after WWII ended. Crazy thought. It definitely shows some wear so I know it was well used.
I watched the video and realized. Magic exists. The gentleman who sent you that razor is a magician. It is a pity that such a razor is not doing. Fortunately, this shaving cream sold even in our country. And the price is affordable. Cream makes you a millionaire, and razor - aristocrat. Thank you very much, I was pleased to see.
Great video as usual, can almost smell the cream through the camera! My girlfriend actually gets a kick out of me watching yours and some other shave videos. She supports the hobby fully, it's great. Keep on making great content!
Hi Paul Great Shave. What a cool razor and those are a favorite blade of mine too!. I love the TOOBS St James Collection Cream and AfterShave as well as the deodorant. Hi to Mrs H and her usual gorgeous arrangement. See you Wednesday.
That's a beauty of a vintage Gillette razor! Great shave sir! Love TOBS creams - Mrs H has once again out done herself on the lovely arraingement. Merry Christmas!
Another great video, as always. I'll be using my Edwin Jagger DE89 and Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandlewood this morning. Looking forward to the next mid week video. All the best. Alex
excelled yourself today Mrs H wonderful display stunning razor Paul, its like shaving with history. Wilkinson sword have been my favorite blades for as long as i can remember, great vid paul catcha later
Nice shave Paul, it was so frightfully posh I thought at one point you were going to introduce us to your butler ;) Your friend Donald is such a very kind man, I'm thinking he may have a long white beard and a red suit :) Another great flower arrangement from MrsH !
Luxurious shave with flowers to match! If you are "mad" my friend then the world could use more madness! Glad your cold passed quickly. Take care, Ossie
Very nice video. You are delightful to watch. Very personable. Thank you for the fun few minutes. BTW... That 1946 Gillette is one that I am looking to add to my collection as it's my birth year razor. Keep up the nice work.
HelloPaul, thank you for your great videos :) My girlfriend doesnt think its mad to watch your videos cause you are a sympathic person. She is right. We traveled from Hamburg/Germany to London yesterday. First stop today: Taylors of old bond street :P Keep it up
Another excellent video, Paul. I must say, I'm starting to view shaving as a hobby, which is probably cliche to say at this point. I just love DE shaving. Using Cella and my Fatip, I'm getting some of the best shaves ever (it seems to like the Russian Voskhod blades, all though I'm still experimenting). My previous shaves were frustrating, I had trouble not applying pressure. Even when you think you're not pressing the razor against your skin, if you're doing anything other than letting it glide through the hair, you're using too much pressure. Slowing down has helped me a lot. I'm currently shaving a couple of times a week myself, I find the extra growth gives me better shaves, I have something to look forward to during the week, and it's less irritating to the skin. Plus, I think I look okay with the stubble, haha. Wish you all the best, Paul. I would be thrilled to have a gold Gillette Aristocrat, I must say. Such a gorgeous razor. Your videos inspire me, been thinking about doing a test shave video with my phone's camera to see if I can figure out a good set-up. Thanks for the video, always looking forward for more. :)
Hi Paul. Great feedback from that razor. Those W.S. blades seem to be a sure winner too. Maybe they`ll be the Christmas present to myself this year.lol Have fun over the holidays.
Great shave Paul! That razor looks fantastic especially when you think that is so old... I wonder what the first owner would have say if he knew that his razor after almost 70 years is at a video... and God I envy you for the Pinaud ... its hard and expensive to find it at my country. .. Thanks again!
Don's a real good guy. Glad you enjoy them, they are made to be used and appreciated.Ive been rocking the end of a SoapCommander sample and merkur progress razor. Shaves are great as anything ive used to date. The english arn't made, but they do have a few odd eccentrics like yourself. But its all good and you can count me amongst the mad then too!
Thanks Paul ! I'm hooked on the IP (Reds) . Beautiful Flowers Mrs H ! Great Shave and Nice Razor , Beautiful ! TOBS Luxury St James Cream is Luxury ! I want to try Pinaud Clubman Citrus Musk Eau De Cologne , one I don't have . Limes and Musk sound interestingly Good ! ... I had a Funny thing happen concerning TOBS soap I noticed today , after thinking about it for a week ! ... Thought I bought Jermyn St , but the puck was really small ? Happened to still have the box , looked , it was the Luxury Scuttle Puck ! I thought it was small and didn't smell like Jermyn St ! Still Nice ! haha ! Happy Christmas Paul and Mrs H !
+PaulHFilms Pinaud Citrus Musk is one of their colognes and the scent is great and longer lasting than many others from the Pinaud Clubman line. It reminds me of the Old Spice Musk aftershave that's made in India Rubiocon for P&G which I also highly recommend. Neither are as strong as the Aqua Velva Musk Aftershave Cologne, which is also quite good. That's also know as the Aqua Velva orange juice in the small plastic bottle.
+Charles K It's my B&B avatar : ) Great Stache Sam Elliot , a man of few words , unlike me ,haha ! but I'm a stache man . I was playing with my youtube deal . Have a Blessed Christmas ! Michael
Another good shave winner...The lather was off the hook..."What if"...you were really rich...would you still shave yourself or have a another expert shave you...I wonder about these things...lol....The Flowers are beautiful...you need some additional art on that wall as a background...shaving related...ask the miss's...maybe a barber pole ..or a razor mural.....set the mood...
I tell you, Paul, watching another man shave is much less perverse than my wife binge watching The OC on Hulu. In case you've been insulated from that show over in Wales, it is a nightime soap opera from the mid 2000's where many overly dramatic things happen to wealthy teens in California, all of whom are played by actors in their early to mid-20's. Thanks, honey, I am gonna go watch the Welshman shave for a while!
Brilliant shave. Can you suggest any medium aggressive vintage razors? I find super speeds too mild and the gillette new too mild as well. All the best, Chance.
Great shave Paul. When you put your brush to the camera what i could smell to best describe the scent of the cream was, citrus ozonic top notes of bergamot & mandarin conbined with crisp herbs. Heart notes that utilised florals, fruits and spices on a base of sandalwood, amber, patchouli and musk. Would this sound about right to you? :-)
Hi Paul, I'm new to your channel and yes, my wife does think that I'm crazy. Going over your videos has helped with my technique, thanks so much! Have ever used Treet blades? I'd love to see what you think? Happy Christmas to you and Mrs. H!
Fragrance notes:A fresh masculine fougere opening with bergamont and mandarin intertwined with citrus ozone notes supported by a fruity floral heart resting on a woody amber base.
My wife thinks I'm bonkers because I talk back to you when you are shaving. I guess I am in a good way. That's the same razor I'm using today. Different soap (St. James of London).
hi Paul greetings from llantrisant and merry xmas to you and yours great shave enjoy your coffee im having a welsh cake with my tea with butter on it lovely bang goes the diet lol.
Whoa, I don't ever get jealous when I see others collections, but an Aristocrat. Heck, now I am ;) Aren't we all a little...crazy. I mean, come on, we all came into this hobby thinking we'd save money on the plastic blades we coughed up for every month. We spend way more now, but the items are vastly superior in quality, and the shaves are more enjoyable.
Hello Paul, Thank you for sharing this video, I have a question: If I remove the blade from the razor after shaving, does that help the blade to be in good condition? I generally let the blades be in the razor until I want to replace it. Please let me know your views on this Regards, Joy
what a fabulous video Paul. The fact that you were having fun was evident in the video and a huge thanks to Donald. I've used the TOBS St. James collection and it is gorgeous. I'm using the TOBS Mr.Taylor's and that's great too. No mention of this Sunday's roast? Thanks again Paul, have a great weekend and see you on Wednesday for a festive Christmas shave. Do it with antlers on, or a Santa hat or something. Go oooooon.!!
Paul I was wondering did You go to see the new Star Wars movie. If so what did You think. I went to see it and it was a really good movie. But something happend in it that made me not happy.
Brilliant as usual Paul I am hoping to win on ebay a Gold tone 1946/47 Aristocract soon they are getting pricey but fingers crossed the couple I am looking at are affordable for me.
Razor Arrived this morning ,it is now cleaned and Shave ready with a Polsiver SI blade for my morning shave, Omega Boar Brush ,Omega Shave Cream, will finish with Omega Alum stick,Pinaud Lilac Vegetal lotion and round off with L'Oreal AS Balm.

Probably an open comb will have more aggression, you can search to see if any are available..... good luck....Paul.
I'm lucky enough to own 2 tubs of the cream you used and the almond and coconut version if you have not tried them highly recommend them
Nice shave!

+David Quinton You mean it's not normal to have a cart on Italian Barber filled with over $200 of soap? lol
***** Well......maybe. Heck if SWMBO didn't keep an eye on the bank balance I'd fill me my cart at Catie's & Reef Point.
You look as happy as a Sandboy!

Yes Paul finally managed to win one at a reasonable price ,hope this cures my acquisition mania for a wee while now.
Got one
awesome video
cheers
I notice that you don't rinse between passes. Why is that?
Lots of cream is not bad. By the way, I saw GEOFATBOY, macerates remaining cream the next time, and lubricates them face. For some pre-shave.
I wish I could get someone to send me a razor like that one!!😭😭
